#IK pole targets

Im planning to use the inverse kinematic features to help with animating a walk cycle, but my knees are bending in the wrong direction. is there any way, with a plugin or otherwise, to direct the knees to bend forward, like a humanoid, rather than in a reverse-jointed digitgrade sort of way?

im familiar with using the pole target setting in blenders ik implementation, hoping to find an equivalent! thanks<3
