Hello, I am looking to make some new mobs for a server currently running Forge 1.18.2. I was hoping to model them in Blockbench, export them, and then import the models into MCreator. However some of the things I've found say I need Geckolib, and some don't. Is Geckolib necessary for Forge functionality? Is it necessary for animations to work properly?

Is it possible to export the model from BB as a .java, import it into MCreator, and then build the creature mod, and it function in Forge 1.18.2? Are there special steps needed to get entity mods functioning in forge?

Geckolib is an animation library. It is not necessary, but many people do use it.
Geckolib is available for Forge, but in no way related to it.
You have to choose if you want it + the features it ads, or not.

Yes, you can export models from Blockbench as .java files if you use the right format.
Your other questions are something for an MCreator discord.
