Is there a way to make the preview grid more than just one, but the entire limit?

There is no size limit in the generic format. Either way, you can check File > Preferences > Settings > Grid for all of the grid settings.

If you just want a floor you could enable the ground plane.
Though I thought there was a setting for the amount of grid fields too 🤔
