#would decreasing UV texture size increase game performance?

I am making a 8x8 pack for fun, but I wonder if reducing the texture scale of the model would increase game performance (not just the texture itself, but the UV texture size as well) or if on the contrary, the workload would increase to ''upscale'' the model to the 16x16 base of Minecraft. (See image for context)

I see, out of curiosity, any idea why?

I'm no expert, but my guess is that the game still needs to load the whole texture file in order to even load a single pixel from it. Like, can't grab a file from your computer without first turning it on
