are there any tips or tricks you could give for texturing large models? so far i've mirrored everything so that i wouldn't have to do each texture twice but any help would be nice.

It all depends on the style of texturing you're going for, if you encounter a specific issue then we could give advice. If it's less technical and more about how the model looks, #1095384957293178891 is a good place to post in.
