I always get stuck with this issue whenever I want to get into poly, Im trying to slant just the top, but the bottom get slanted as well

why? I don't want this

silent mesa
#

so you're trying to make a ramp shape?

torpid burrow
#

pretty much

silent mesa
#

select the top edge and use the move tool

torpid burrow
#

oh my god

#

thank you

#

while you're here mind if I ask about another small thing?

how do I make a pyramid which the base of isn't a square, like more sides as a base?

#

Im trying to make a horn but the normal pyramid only offers 4 faces (cause the base is a square) can't I change the base to be something with more sides?

basically extrude section up, select the top edge then right click > merge all in center

#

im gonna need to read this 10 times before I understand holdup

#

what section am I extruding
/
where is the extrude section

#

I looked up extruded and found "Extrude Section" button, but it says it's hidden ?

silent mesa

you just need to create extra material for it to use, you can also just loopcut a face

torpid burrow
#

I'm a complete beginner so I have no idea what some of the terms you're saying really mean

loopcut ?

silent mesa
#

so start with any face, select it all right click > extrude selection

#

that will add new walls to the shape

torpid burrow
#

"start with any face", like a plane?

#

should I make a plane?

silent mesa
#

then select the top edge of those new walls, and do merge all in centre

silent mesa
#

it just needs walls to merge together

torpid burrow
#

I don't know what I want, I'm asking because that looks flat in the image but the plane is also just 4 sides

#

so I guess, I don't need a plane but a cylinder?

torpid burrow
silent mesa
#

its just a primitive

#

i removed the walls and top face for demonstration purposes

#

the same method is used for any shape though

torpid burrow
#

well I created a cylinder and just made it's height 0, that's okay?

silent mesa
#

problem with doing that, is the top and bottom faces are still their, they are just inside eachother

torpid burrow
#

huh

#

wait so what else am I suppose to do?

silent mesa
#

I don't even understand what you are trying to ask

torpid burrow
#

im just trying to give this cutie horns haha

#

as you can see the uhh pyramids are, uhh, really bad here 😂

silent mesa
#

for the horn pieces?

torpid burrow
#

yup

#

I want to replace those with more rounded horns

#

which obviously would be made through a pyramid that has more side-faces than just 4

silent mesa
#

so yeah, just start out with the flat shape of whatever. Then extrude up the face and merge like I mentioned

torpid burrow
#

right so it all goes wrong there though

#

"extrude up" - what ?

#

right clicking doesn't show me any button that says that

#

I don't have any button that does that

silent mesa
#

start with flat shape, select all faces, extrude up.
Select the top edges of those newly created faces then merge all in centre

torpid burrow
#

how do I select all faces?

#

shift clicking doesnt really work here for me

#

wait Im in face mode and it lets me do it like that, is that right?

silent mesa
#

this bar at the top shows what current selection mode you're in. it goes:
object (so the entire thing like default blockbench)
cluster (ignore this for now)
face
edge
vertex

#

vertex

torpid burrow
#

oh my god it did it

#

it is rotated though, is that okay?

#

like I can rotate it back but I am wondering if that's normal

silent mesa
#

just rotate it to however you need

#

you can adjust the position / height of the point using the vertex selection mode

torpid burrow
#

Hey I really appreciate this!
I know it may not be perfect but you just helped me learn on some multiple things here , thanks for being so patient 😊

no worries, mesh modelling is certainly confusing for first time
