2D Animation applied but not shown

either drag and drop it onto the face
or select the cube/faces you want to apply it to, then rightclick the texture and click apply to elements(for all faces of the selected cubes) or apply to face (to only appply it to the selected faces)

I don't think so, though I haven't used animated textures in combination with the animation tab myself
