#what resolution max of pixels can be uploaded to java edition?

I have a friend that I made a really nice custom king carnage skin for spending over 10 hours making it on a 5$ "commission" only to find out once I sent it that the file could not be supported in java edition and only (maybe) in bedrock at a 64x resolution or 256 by 256 pixels, is there any way for me to have him able to use this skin still or do I need to remake it? if I have to remake it at what resolution would be the max?

and you cannot make the main parts of the skin transparent

so i can/ cant place pixels there with just a really low opasity instead when remaking it?

the main cubes will appear fully solid no matter what you do in the texture

dang that kind of sucks, and there is no way to convert the current file to a lower pixel count? trying to avoid another couple hours of work if it can be helped
