are you sure you are in a Block/Item format project?
thats not the icon for the block/item format
they have block and items too
i dont think you can use multiple textures in this format
i need to know how to do that
if it doesnt let you in blockbench then you cant
but in the modfiles it clearly says created using blockbench

GeckoLib is restricted to a texture per model. You can use my Texture Stitcher plugin (File > Plugins > Available > Texture Stitcher) to combine multiple textures into one
Once the plugin is installed, right click on the area under Textures and click Stitch all textures IIRC
I think you would have to render it as a separate model or manually
IIRC animated textures (.mcmeta) only work for the block models, but for anything else you have to manually render animated stuff (i.e. switch texture based on entity state or somethign)
its not really a problem to have a different model for it in game its just that i want to preview it in blockbench while working on it
the plugin is amazing btw
