It was more than just playstation. Sony and Microsoft abide by Review Boards. North America has one, Europe has one as well as some individual ones in their countries like Germany, Australia and so on. If these major review boards give Adult Only rating to a game, aside from the fact that it would not be available in that region, chances are Sony and Microsoft would simply not allow it on the store period.

Even if Void stood up to them, it would make no difference at all. They would just keep the AO rating and move on. However saying they "rot" games by making them soft and that they should not exist is not correct either. They fulfill a purpose and their existence is important too.

i just can't help but think they move FAR beyond the intent. this is beyond raitings at this point things with the hayes code and the comics code moral authority. and to stand up. i think just a question should ... be. surely regional differences would be ok. as much as they have an interest to "protect" their brand. the pro censorship side hasn't be very nice or reasonable. saying that "it's not a big deal". then changing their tune with payment processor jawboning... because of an open letter that was plain false according to fact.

it was the only way to expand the playerbase to people who exclusively game on consoles, or just outright don't have a PC (or rather a PC that has pretty low specs). some people who do work at VOID interactive even recommended PC players mods to revert the changes clientside. there are people outside of the united states who also play on the same devices, y'know. and their rules are less lenient than ours.

it would also be unfair to exclude one side of not having something.

and so, this was the unfortunate workaround.
it's not great, but i'm glad that this tactical shooter has been made available to those who do play on consoles.

you should probably get in the game developing field because you fail to understand how complex the situation really is.

modern games like this aren’t a stack of isolated assets, they’re interconnected systems. if you have two versions with different assets, mechanics, or logic paths, every future patch must be tested and verified on both versions. that doubles QA work, doubles risk of divergence, and massively increases bug risk. you can break multiplayer, mission logic, animation sync, etc., in subtle ways if the clients don’t match.

if PC and console versions had different in-game content (even art changes), keeping them in the same multiplayer ecosystem becomes harder. servers need clients that behave predictably. divergent assets can cause replication issues, mismatches in collision/hit-detection, animation differences, and things like that.

but it doesn't just stop there.

and standardizing content across platforms is common industry practice, not unique to this game. a lot of cross-platform titles have to trim or adapt content to meet different region ratings and platform rules (which is basically a form of compliance).
