This used to happen on occasion but now it happens always. When I do a somaria corruption that causes vram corruption (light or heavy) or a vram YBA, I lose all music until hard reset and sometimes vanilla music plays. This is fine for heavy vram because I would reset after anyway, but light vram corruptions can be followed by lots of gameplay with no music playing until I get a chance to reset much later.
#MSU crashes when you do any vram glitch since v31.2

this sounds more like a firmware issue
nothing changed that could have affected MSU or overlay corruption
but overall, we can't really address this issue without fundamentally changing how that glitch works, which is not something I'm willing to allow
this happens to both me and MrByer who both play on snes9x, and I've seen it happen to chex who uses console
then I'm not sure
but as far as I know, there were no changes that should have been made wrt this
Not sure if I'm even right here, but there really might something wrong with MSU since the last update...
I had several cases of "Silence" instead of music playing. Most times it was Link's house after a S&Q, but also two times in a Dungeon. No crashes so far.
Using snes9x-emunwa (most recent release) with SNI and emotracker running.
Also noticed that moocow1980 (avoiding ping) posted something similar in #1019786827604971530 .. not sure if perhaps related.
Is there any way to help in finding out more??
I got a report that another player has been experiencing this issue starting around March 2023. This is around the release of v31.1. isn't it?
they said it was very noticeable when it started and had been active in the no logic tournament prior, where they had not had this issue
the thing is all the game really does for MSU-1 support is tell the MSU-1 to play a track
it's just a few commands that run to tell it to play a track
if the track gets interrupted mid-playback during a time where we'd normally not be sending commands to the MSU (not during a music transition) then it's hard to say that it would be the ROM causing the problem
What about future transitions? Exiting the dungeon doesn’t fetch a track
only during a screen transition would there be a chance of anything msu-related happening
and it's just sending a command to the MSU-1 to play X track
So what is stopping this from happening after the fact?
Music cutting out while in a dungen you glitched is (I think) normal, but never working again in any gameplay without hard resetting is new
something must be causing it to send bad track IDs to the MSU-1 to play
like the glitch is touching the RAM that stores the lookup table
Hmm was this ram location changed in v31.1?
that might be related to it
not sure if it changed, but there are a bunch of variables on page 1E, which is touched by overlay corruption
i do think there's some msu issue, last night my game hard locked on the spin yba to arrghus, the vram resolved and i scrolled to the room but was fully hardlocked
