So my current run is forcing me to do escape sewers without the lamp and only the fire rod. How exactly am I supposed to see where the torches are to light them?

Since you are playing "Advanced" item placement the game starts to assume you're familar with the general room layouts. This one is a little bit tricky but if you look at the maps its not too too hard to navigate the rooms.
its only the castle sewers, back of Eastern, and the rupee basement in Palace of Darkness that the randomizer will expect you to navigate because of those torches.
the sewers though are definitely a bit more involved for sure
additionally if you press "X" to use your map it will give you a general location of where you are in the room before you light the torches

Small chest in dark cross just had bombs. Not sure what I can do.
Oh wait I gotta navigate EP's dark rooms. That's probably it.
