Sorry about breaking most of the existing combinations. I was being lazy in the definitions and overwriting the originals. In order to have hook and non hook versions of Box/Flatbeds I had to undo that which means all the old chassis will break. Easily reconfigure the trailer to fix it though, you don't have to sell it and rebuy.

Nope, custom assets. I edited the chassis to give them to hook to attach the dollies to.

yes standard save editing works fine with them. You just need to use the correct chassis code. The hook trailers are the same as the standard except at the start they're chh instead of ch
eg: the 53ft 3 axle Box with hook is chh_53_3a

i have a question about local mods. i never really looked into them. but does that support graphics? i used to use a realistic roads mod all the time. would that be possible to use with local plugins?
if i got the viper peterbilt 389 mod and got the extended chassis with nothing else would the chassis remain that long if i went to multiplayer and would everyone see it the same as me?

Yeah i see those alot that would be cool, there is a mod on the workshop for a single axel t680 but it doesnt work in multiplayer cuz like he said it regens the second axel.

Ah yea. Its more finding a chassis and a separate cab that the tires fit i the fenders well because of the slight difference in size or connection point to the chassis. Then the rest is easy.

I would recommend the 389 with the w900 but as you said about the fender thing the peterbilt is much smaller than the kenworth so idk how that would work, the only save editing i do is when i get a mod that does the same thing as save editing.
And is there a way to make an extended chassis?

@open stratus Turn off Steam Cloud saving on the profile first.
When you start the game, select the profile, click edit, and uncheck the button by "Steam Cloud Save."
Cloud saved profiles do not show up, if you want to edit them you need to turn that off, once you finish the edit you can turn it back on if you want.

Ya unfortunately how the bumper sits on this chassis the smaller bull bars actually float below it. Im just mashing parts to see if i can get something decent. Its no were near done. Ats is way harder to mash trucks together than on ets. 
because all the truck nodes for ats trucks are all in separate locations in relation to model origin. its next to impossible to mix parts unless youre doing something similar like bumpers or filters for the 389 and w900
everything else just really doesnt work without horrendous clipping
Yeah the "objects" all have a relative position from a certain point, which are designed to fit for specific trucks. So it'll have that same relative position depending where the node for that object is on different trucks. So there will be some offsets if the truck shape is really different or if the node is really not at the same place like another truck.

This is the source I currently use, I will warn you, the creator put it in mod format to help with testing, but the templates are the same.
You will also need an app to create the skins on, (Paint.NET or Photoshop works well, I use Paint.NET), you also need a TOBJ Editor and something to edit .sii, .sui, & .mat files, Notepad works fine.
If you need any more help I'd recommend looking up tutorials on skinning in ATS.
For the TOBJ Editor, Mods Studio 2 (the link that GetForkStabbed put above), works well.

@woven girder as for your question about using Police related objects or contents in or on your on your truck by safe edit or whatever , keep in mind that you will not be able to keep or use them within Truckersmp server ... { Rule 1.5 : Impersonating other users, staff members, political figures, law enforcement, leaders and authorities of any kind or acting like someone who is more superior. This can be through the way you drive, use the voice chat, your avatar, your license/interior plates, username and/or your in-game tag. } other than above you can use Police related object or contents in or on your truck while being into Single Player mod.

I just explained this on #ets2-modding... I'm referring to the literal in-game ai police car license plate. On singleplayer. Thank you for warning me, but I know the rules to TMP well, as a member of this community I make it my goal to stay within those limits.

Uh... if it requires downloading a truck or parts that aren't included in the base game or dlcs, you cannot use it in multiplayer.

I've been able to add hooks to a few different stock game ownable trailers. Log trailers got a hook plus long load signs.
There's a link in there to the no restrictions add on which will let you drive them in Oregon/Washington/where ever.

When I drive oversized loads I usually knock my trailer into signs on accident due to me miscalculating the spot when I should turn
I need to practice that and also buy more trailers

I'd recommend playing with the trailer alot in SP so you can learn how they will track behund you and how wide you should make ya turns. So you won't cause people some headache or look like fool

A tip for future reference, if you look closely at the trailer template, it has arrows pointing which way is the front. :)
Top is right (as the front) middle and bottom are both left.

Yes they are supposed to be opened. The .dds files are know as Direct Draw Surface files and they are the images used to make skins. The TOBJ file tells the game which dds file to use for certain things.

Nope, every single part of a skin mod can be edited, it just happens that TOBJs require a TOBJ Editor instead of simply using a notepad.
.sui files can also be edited like .sii files too! :)
Honestly, if you know what you're doing, the entire game could be edited if you try hard enough. But even if you don't, there's still a lot to edit in not only the game.sii files but also the other .sii files.

It's failing to open a file due to invalid path, so it might simply be a mistyped path in one of the files.

Your dds has the wrong dimensions. It has to be Power of two. Most used is 2048x2048 or 4096x4096.
Or if your dds is in 2:1 you need to have it in 2048x1024 or 4096x2048

I watched a couple of youtube vids, got the free software and cant belive how easy it is. Im working through my first combo skin now. Hardest bit is using photoshop type stuff and learning what each part of the templates is.
One tip from me, try creating a skin with no colors etc on. Just the template background. Look at it on your truck in game so can see where each part wraps over
Or like I did and color separate sections with different colors so it sticks out.
I think i grabbed some templates where someone had already done that. Makes it so much easier. If i can make a truck skin, anyone can lol

i think it would be sweet if someone made a mod that enabled the freight market to focus on one specific industry no matter what city/town ur picking up from. example, if someone wanted to specialize in agricultural haulage , all their loads would be hay, tractors, plows, etc etc

First of all, I believe that is the legit latest version before the disappearance of the mod.
Secondly, installing it is very simple, take the zip or scs file and move/copy it to '/User/Documents/American Truck Simulator/mod/'
Make sure you click the right download button & download the right file.

@charred parrot 1) You should never have a cargo mass of 0. the game can not process that and creates weird after effects.
2) No. the trucks themselves are classed as cargo. they will always despawn upon delivery.
3) No. there are no accessory nodes on that trailer.
I can confirm all of that. The trailers will act up and glitch through the ground and fly in odd ways if you set the cargo mass to 0. Although, having it as 1000 seems fine or maybe less.
Also yeah unfortunately the game will treat the truck models on your truck "train" as a cargo, so taking deliveries will make you lose them after completing a load.
The gas tanker doesn't have a place set to put long load banner, so it will not show up as usual for any accessories that you try to add that the vehicle doesn't have a node for it.

Seems like the "mass" is coded. how would I be able to determine 1,000 and it work? Im just trying to lighten my load so Im not too slow off the line in front of the convoy =p

@charred parrot From my experience with messing around saddle trucks, setting every "trailers" with the saddle truck with a cargo mass of 1000 wouldn't glitch and work fine for me, without glitching when spawning it in the garage. The "tow" bar is only 100 kg, and the saddle mount (on second and third trailer) is 50 kg. Some people prefer using the second due to the way it handles, how it is shorter and have a better feel when turning and reversing.
In the game, each trailer parts have a chassis mass, owned trailers sometimes have a body mass too, which is defined in the sii files (which can only be modded, so not usable on TMP). The cargo mass is defined in your game.sii file for each trailer parts.
@dire warren Are you suggesting you can edit the "tow" bar at the front? Also confirm 1k weight IS in fact possible with Freight Market load?

With modding, yes you can edit the weight of the tow bar, although it won't work on TruckersMP, since it disables the default mod manager. Same thing applies to the cargo mass in the freight market, possible, but won't work on multiplayer.

I know you can edit ownable trailers but wasnt sure about freight market. So I guess all you can change is the appearance then.
Yeah, with save editing, you can edit owned trailers, mix owned with company, or even have company trailers in garage (company trailers as in trailers you don't normally buy through the trailer dealer)

Just do 4 of the first truck with the tow bar then keep the last one as third and you have a pretty nice setup

Topic: longer trailers are not shaking in tilted in the slightest. Question is how would i do that? i have mass ratios on the trailers except i was informed that was rendering incorrectly. this is what i am after is to learn how their trailers were not angled but i do not know what chain type they used, mass ratios or if the source_name was altered http://prntscr.com/ub1w8g
For whatever reason flatbed trailers tend to be very stable in large combinations on TMP. Box trailers however can be very unstable with a 4xB + 53ft box combination having the 53ft trailer sitting fully in the ground/in the air and jackknifing up to right angles relative to the combination when driving for other players.
The biggest flatbed I run is a 45+28B+28B+53ft ABB Quad and it is more stable in MP than a 45+28B+53ft AB Triple Box trailer I run.
You also can't tell the stability of your own trailer as your game will show it behaving properly.
Grain Trailers are just as bad as the Box Trailers
Flatbed and Container Seem to be the most stable for who knows why?? Noone

I ran a reefer + flatbed and for whatever reason the dolly lost all traction. Used to slide around. Ended up getting banned for it. At least they got a video of me: https://youtu.be/4HTXhIQju-4
Oh and the bug got fixed. Still don't know why it happened. Was fun though
The flatbed basically pushed the reefer like it was on ice. Could control it using trailer brake. I never ran into anyone with it, but mods watched on silently. The trailer combination had proper weighting. Ah those were the days of TMP.
I used to have 1 axle dolly slide but only when on exit ramps going 10 mph over that was beforebi learned to make more mass ratios

@reef bronze the fuel tank size is somewhere inside the def.scs but then you couldnt go onto MP so instead change the fuel_relative located in the game.sii which is where your game save is such as if it was a quicksave it would be in documents/american truck simulator/ profiles/2675gjgjg][/ save/ quicksave folder. and you will need sii_decrypt which can be found in the speditor application install folder.
i mainly do fuel_relative as 9000 which is enough for maybe 2 years of daily gameplay 4 hrs/day
I'm on modded sp but wanted more fuel
So you can modify the fuel tank by editing the chassis def. For whatever reason all the trucks are separate DLC's for ATS. Just find the one you want and run it through the extractor. Then go def/vehicle/truck/truck model/chassis and select the chassis def you want to edit.
There you will find:
tank_size: 568
air_tank_pressure: 8.5
nominal_voltage: 12
Simply change the rank size to what you want.
Then package it up as a mod and you're good to go!

I'm not sure but you want to copy the contents of the folder to your clipboard (ctrl a then ctrl c) and then paste them into your ats directory

I made these changes to the second save, removing the second A trailer from the turnpike setup and instead putting the b double setup as slave to the dolly. I can leave my game.sii here if that'd help, but I'm just not too sure what I've missed here

you can always check console, it will say where is mistake on which line and what kind of mistake it is

@pearl yarrow I had a friend with some issue with references (already owned) but it was with AI driver, so I got no clue... Anyways so for your issue, have you checked if the slave trailer isn't already owned by another trailer?
So I fixed this by changing _nameless_x0x0_x0x0 to _nameless_x0x0_x0x1 where x0 represents an actual name

just grab a transformer load and if you have watched videos on how to make custom double or triple trailer then just follow the video but using the trailer you want

not really you just puck up the job and copy & paste the front two trailers to themselves twice then delete the jeep off the very front
It helps if you use quicksaving to quickly change the namelesses so you don't have to manually do it yourself
I could make a Triple Transformer rather fast
Although I do think the transformer has the stigger at the end so you would need to remove that from the setup before copying and pasting

Start simple and work your way into more complex things. Turning a STAA Double (28ft) into a Turnpike Double is an easy task that can teach you most of the work required and short cuts. It's doable by editing 6 lines. 2 body codes, 3 chassis code and a def name.

Basically you change the trailers def to be a single trailer so the game allows it anywhere. But note if you change the deff of the trailer to be a single the game will see it as a single at may require you back in to a drop off since it thinks you have a single trailer. Ill post a link to a yt vid with instructions later for that as im afk atm

@winter seal edit the dolly to be a low shank by angling down the tow bar. that way you can just have the pintle hook on the bumper. modern UPS dollies have angled down tow bars.

That works okish for single axle dollies but I've not had any luck with 2+ axles. I'd have to angle down the drawbar and my Blender skills aren't good enough to do that without screwing something up.
dollys in australia have an angle pin that lets it swing up or down, to fold away in the case of tight loading docks. how they manage to park is the next question
The ATS dollies do have that pin on the 2 axle however the game treats it as a rigid object. Trucks/trailers can't bend or flex only move around each other at the hookup points (5th wheel, hitch etc).

So someone asked me to a do a '53ft B Double'. Turns out this was alot easier than I thought. Except the shadow. Still don't know how to make shadows properly.
the ui shadow is different from the traditional shadow. the ui shadow is just the bottom shadow. it never changes orientation regardless of where the light source is. a ui shadow is not required but if youre gonna use it all you have to do is stretch the middle.
It's easy if you know how to do it. I don't know how.

Add a little weight to the trailer. The towed truck seems to bug out if it has a cargo mass of 0. Just put 1000 on it and it should be ok.
Note I said cargo mass, not chassis mass.

Weight from the lowboy pushes down on the jeep due to the 5th wheel being in the middle.
So maybe if you also made the lowboy cargo mass 0 it would still work. To get correct weight for the load I suppose you could split the weight between the towed truck and the stinger. Assuming it doesn't go nuts with a trailer attached to the jeep.

The only big trailer one like that that doesn't work on mp is special cargo (aka the one with the pilot cars and stuff) but the other heavy cargo one works .. give me a min to go to my pc and ill find u the links :)

the process between ets2 and ats are the same. everything is set up the same way. the only thing thats gonna be different are root directories depending on if youre using game-specific automats or custom mat files.
the problem with local modding is it requires you to semi-permanently modify your game save. and thats the real kick to the can. because if you mess up or dont know what youre doing, you can render your entire save file unusable.
thats also why most local modders dont help unless you are already proficient in either blender or zmod.

i just wish scs made all the node placements consistent between trucks so swapping parts are more practical. due to a more consistent shape, almost all parts/chassis in ets2 are universal and you can practically put any part on any truck. i wanted to put the WS bumper on the 389 but the fitment node is lower so it isnt possible without using a double bumper but i dont like doing that with parts because it doesnt look clean.

With new way of local modding you are limited, for example you can't replace actual thing, you can only add new and wrap on original.

I found the two that was causing the game to crash as soon as I opened the trailer dealer (A real trailer brand paintjobs mod and unlock everything)

I have been trying to get the coast to coast mod working but for some reason it is not showing in the mod a manager. I was told all I need to do is download the .SCS file and put it in the mod folder, which I have done, but nothing is showing. Anyone have any ideas?

@glacial wolf Hey, if you're talking the Peterbilt 350 Mod you can find it by going the the pause menu in Single-player then goto 'Truck Dealers' and click 'Access Mod Dealer' then select the Peterbilt Logo on the left side and then click on the Peterbilt Logo 🙂

the only "mods" that are supported by TMP are promods (not for ATS yet), seasonal weather mods (on forums), or game base mods. game base mods arent actually mods. they just remove restrictions on SCS assets that allows you to swap parts between trucks or trailers that the game normally wouldnt allow. it has the same exact effect as save editing, just for the more simple people who dont actually know how to save edit. local mods are real mods that are reconfigured to load through a different file directorate but only you can see them.

Normally, sound mods can work with the versions that has Fmod (e.g 1.37 to now) but if it doesn't, you just gotta wait untill the sound modders update their sound mods to work with the version.

I have a question about a potential mod project for a single player game. I stream ATS sometimes and would like to create custom employees to hire on my trucking company, based on some viewers. What would be the logistics behind adding custome employees to hiring agencies? Does anyone know where in the game data that information might be stored, if it would take a hex editor, etc.? Thanks in advance.

Lets not forget local modding there is maybe 0 mods for ats but for ets there is more then 400 single player mods on MP
local modding isnt as simple as just downloading an scs file and plugging it into the game though.
there isn't a lot of local modding for ats because there's literally no tuning ability
