I also wouldn't use a 1050/1050ti for VR. Especially not a laptop 1050 that might not be the full desktop GPU (depending on the make and model of the laptop). It just plain doesn't meet minimum spec.

I tested the game on my brother's PC (worse CPU, put my GPU in there) and it worked perfect

Is the fact that the GTX 1080 can clock up to 2000Mhz and stay below the 390's idle temp that is weird.
The 390 is a furnace. This is normal.
Also, the 390 was never meant to compete with a 1080 >.> It's from 2015
