job is school
^^^Nice pic.
I'm the product of spending two weeks in a school and one month with a trainer.
I'm still alive and haven't killed anyone. :3
And I'm out earning a good living instead of sitting at school for... What is it... 12 week courses?
Literally
Was the star pupil in backing class
Because I was the only person who could back the trucks
That made me fear for my safety
Good for you! π
C.R England is a joke
ATS taught me more about driving the rigs than they did. >~>
That's saying something about their courses.
Not knowing how to reverse an semi lulw
One thing I imagine most people can't handle is the trailer
I start a 4 and a half week course today. Then when I get to my company, it's 175 hours with a trainer, before I get my own truck
Sounds fun. Will they teach you with a trailer today or move you with just a truck to train with.
I believe it will be mostly classroom time today and tomorrow, then mostly truck time for the rest of the week
Lol, my point Limeryn. These companies are pushing people through with their license that have no business behind the wheel. Some students are exceptions, but definitely not a majority
Fortunately once I graduate, no time required with another driver. Also, my school walked me through getting endorsements for doubles/triples, tanker, and hazmat.
In other news, how about that c*nt driving >135kmh on I-70 fully loaded who ended up killing 4 people and injuring dozens? Honestly, really lucky it wasn't more
I was in school for 3 years, just to graduate as an trucker
Feelsbadmak
Could have chosen better
This job isnt as fun as many believe
It can be a good living, or it can be a nightmare if you have no clue what you're doing
I would like to see at least a year of schooling for commercial drivers. 3 or 4 weeks is asinine with the amount of safety risk involved with CMVs
It also depends on what you haul, where you haul it, and it depends on the person. It's a perfect job for some people.
Hot weather
That pretty damn hot.
I find it fun...
And yeah. Seems as I live in Denver I know how badly that rocked the city. Killed four people. 28 vehicles involved in the crash in total. I run that stretch of highway often enough to know if you lose your brakes you better hit the runaway ramp.
Yea well americans arent real truckers
The traffic jam was caused by an earlier accident involving a school bus and another tractor trailer. 23yr old kid swerved into the parked traffic instead of going into the back of a disabled semi on the shoulder.
I myself am 22 but I personally wouldn't be able to live with myself if I killed anyone, and I like to think I would've gone off the highway or into the back of the stalled tractor trailer.
What really set things off was the load of lumber the truck was carrying. It got set ablaze and that made the situation so much worse.
We're very lucky to have only lost four souls. But at the same time, it's still a tragedy that was felt city wide. And everyone at Navajo had their own little moment of silence for those lost, it seems.
You arent a real trucker if you have anything else than this
Companies are switching to automatic fleets to save fuel costs.
It isn't really our choice until we buy our own truck.
Most drivers I know prefer manual. It's usually the older, experienced and tired truckers who prefer automatic to make life a little easier after 20+ years of shifting gears.
Hell, one of our guys here turned 80 in February. Still healthy as a horse.
iirc he's been driving for 50 years
Best transmission out there
My transmission is an Eaton Fuller.
But it's an automatic ten-speed with manual sequential. The ability to select gears but with an auto clutch.
Entire system was designed for fuel economy and the only reason it has a manual mode is for going down hills.
You need that manual non synchromesh to join the big boy club π
I've driven them.
I'm just not driving one.
I'll take the 50 cents a mile in an automatic over the 34 cents a mile in a manual.
Pay me enough and I'll drive whatever you want me to if it isn't falling apart.
How much do american truckers get paid by hour even
Not hourly
It's by the mile
500 mile trip is about $250 for me
But you see
When I get my own truck and trailer
I can charge $3.00 per mile. And make a 2,000 mile run.
The economy in ATS is so screwed π I still want to mod in an accurate one
That seems a bit low payment
Thank the megafleets for underbidding everyone else and driving prices down but costs up
Swift, C.R England, Werner, Schneider, Knight, they're all part of a problem called Monopoly.
Especially Knight. Knight now owns Swift making them the biggest transportation company in the world.
And they like to stomp the prices low?
I wonder do they even pay their drivers that much that they can even live
I was making 17 cents per mile at C.R England.
You can't live on a megafleet.
Oh darnh
You have to find a smaller company.
Now I make about $3,500 a month.
Thats actually low
Im on a hourly wage and my monthly pay really depends how much work there is
At England I was barely making $800 a month
My pay depends on how much these wheels turn, so I understand that.
S a m e
I didn't get 2x pay though.
Just blizzards and black ice. π
Today my days going to be 11,5 hours, so overwork bonuses too π
My work days are regularly 12 hours long π
No overtime laws exist for motor carriers here. So I don't get extra pay for working a 70 hour week
I do get safety, fuel and on-time bonus pay which can add up to an extra $580 at the end of the month
But then theres taxation that leeches all of wage
I don't get taxed terribly. Only 10%-ish
So if I make $1,000 they take $100
And I still have to drive through potholes
Sounds like California here in the states
So many drivers refuse to go to Cali.
Too many idiots writing stupid laws for trucks who've never seen a truck much less driven one
Fucking liter of 95e costs 1,70β¬
JESUS
And I complain when I pay $17 for 8 gallons
It costs about $450 to fill up my 150 gallon rig
As a proud American
I will always claim
Taxation is theft after a certain point
And that's why we told the British empire to pound sand c:
Man like, we pay huge taxes just for owning a car, insurance companies scam us of huge amounts of money, then petrol is expensive as hell
I would use a bus but busses dont go to where i work
Id get rid of my car as fast i could
Dang, man... I hate hearing that.
Everyone should be able to enjoy the freedom of a car.
I wonder what your employers pay for registration on their rigs... Good god
Holy shit, 17c a mile? That's unbelievable
Local drivers get paid hourly here in the states. Most local routes in my town are paying 20 to 30 an hour.
Public transportation is viable in Europe though. There isn't a good alternative to owning a vehicle in the states unless you live in a handful of the major metro cities
The reason why we cant enjoy is the climate hysteria
Always a fun topic
Watching the news is like saying Finland is the reason for climate change, but no more politics
Eh, just not as much. DPF/DEF works great but it's not zero emissions
The real issue is with industrial pollution, not trucks.
So many companies illegally dump and skirt emissions laws
But back to trucking
DEF is a piss poor excuse for environmental control.
Far as I can tell all it does is crystalize the exhaust emissions and make them fall back to the ground. It doesn't just disappear.
Diesel emissions are heavy enough to fall back down anyway, I've heard. So it's a pointless way of fleecing more money from drivers.
It breaks down and neutralizes a good bit of the particulates
Emissions are very much still there, though
I got it on my hand once
I forever use thick leather gloves now
That stuff is absolutely disgusting and gets everywhere
And I'm told you can piss in the DEF tank and it'll still work fine since it's mostly bull urine
If I buy a rig I'm putting a pre-1994 engine in it to make myself exempt from the emissions BS
Still have to install a DPF
DEF systems add about $30,000 to the cost of a truck.
It's insane
Also, I love the 5700EX.
But I want a 4900EX Lowmax π
I'd definitely take one of those too
My dream truck right there. With a rocky mountain double set of tankers behind it.
I don't really need a sleeper though, going to be working local for a good while
Good choice.
Hourly pay is nice.
Duty cabs are great for visibility. Don't have one at school though
Navajo offers $20/hr for local guys in Denver, Salt Lake and Phoenix iirc
I'm in Tulsa. Lots of 20+ an hour jobs here. 30+ for class 3
New T-680 daycabs with lift axles in Salt Lake. Older T-800's in Denver and I think T-660's in Phoenix.
Nice!
Aye, pretty stoked to get out of school
I thought about going back to Louisiana and working in the oil Fields but they pay peanuts I'm told
Crooked companies
Probably won't get a class 3 job off the bat, but I've got my hazmat nonetheless
Get a year or two in
I've heard hauling sand for the oil fields pays great
It does if you're with the right company
5k a week for owner operator is rookie numbers
Well yeah, I was talking base numbers for new guys
Got guys out here making 8-12k a week running flatbeds and car haulers
Good god
Yeah.
The Weastern Star 4900 is actually a really popular choice for car haulers
Aye
Good trucks. Not a lot of room in there compared to Volvo or FL though
Enough for a solo driver though
True that, but man... They are sexy.
Soooooo good looking
My second favorite truck is probably the Freightliner Classic XL
If I had my way, I'd probably drive a new Pete 3 series
Fuel mileage sucks, but damn they look good
Hoo boi, a 389 with a 700HP CAT and an 18 speed
I'm getting all excited
I just popped a woody
π
Have you seen the absolute units the loggers drive up in the Northwest?
Massive 6x6 Ural looking trucks with log carts in tow.
Maaan those must cost a fortune.
Whaaaaat
Navajo has the T-680 version of that
I like that
A lot of Love's trucks pull rocky sets out here so it's not uncommon for them to have more axles. It was also a tridem tanker iirc
I was going to say, seems like a bit much if he isn't yanking double or triple
Man, I would love to get on class 3 triples. $$$$
#outlaw
π π
FedEx, YRC, Yellow, Old Dominion, XPO and UPS are the only companies I ever see running them and they're always boxes.
I've never paid too much attention but I suppose YRC and Old Dominion would haul HAZMAT
Nah I'm talking stuff you'd put inside the box. Like explosives or oxygen tanks.
Oh well yeah
Don't know the HM classes all that well, honestly.
Don't have my endorsement for those yet. Not gonna need it working for Navajo.
When I go back to Louisiana I'm getting my doubles.
Doubles are blast
Wanna haul rocky sets to Montana
Pulled some for school a couple of times
I've thought about moving north but the local routes pay better here
Right smack dab in the middle of major truck routes
169, 44, 75
I dunno... One guy is making $2,100 a week as a company driver on the doubles route
Which is why I'm getting my endorsement lmao
Damn, as a company driver? That's killer money
But of course the cost of living where you're at is about twice mine
Haha
If not closer to 3x
Yeah. They run him up into Montana, so he averages 500 miles a day.
If he runs off recaps and keeps on rolling all week long, he makes some jack
Sometimes he'll do 600 miles
There and back that's up to 1,200 miles in two days.
That's what I want to be running.
Coming back empty through Idaho... That's its own animal.
Hahah
And it can be terrifying if you only have one trailer
Trust me
I know π
Gotta stay on top of your game for sure
Be ready to hit the brakes and steer away from the wind to get that trailer back down. Always have to leave space between you and the stupid four wheelers on all sides just in case.
I have not! I wanna try it one day though.
Hell, haven't pulled tanker at all yet. I'd rather drive a tanker out here though, the wind just goes around you instead of hitting your trailer like a sail
The load just slaps you around. Gotta relearn how to shift as the load shifts
Fuel isn't as bad because they separate the tank into usually 5+ compartments
I've heard water tankers are a pain
But food grade stuff, hot oil, crude, water, etc is nuts. One straight tank and, due to the weight of a lot of liquids, they can't fill it all the way up. You end up like 60-80% full and it just sloshes while you drive
Gotta be super careful around corners
That sounds like
f u n
F U U U N N N N N
π
It's fine once you get going but damn, it takes getting used to
Yep, and interchanges and ramps
It sloshes back and forth but also side to side
Flip your ass in a heartbeat
Yeah. Not enough money for me in food grade stuff anyway π
Water is what we keep in our school tankers
Best idea
Some of the food grade stuff pays decent here. Mostly dairy
I have heard that dairy pays well depending on where you are
Driver demand and so on
Can't help but laugh when I see a septic truck. You couldn't pay me enough
Aye, definitely
Hell to the no
Actually... $4.00 per mile might get me into one
Hahah
I'm such a money whore π
I think I saw some of the companies advertising around here 25+ an hour
Still wouldn't do it
Niiice!
Yeah, not enough for such a crappy position
Yessir
I'm making good money running dryvan as is. Easy money, I'd say. So I'm just going to hang out here for a while. :3
Sometimes I get live loads.
Hate those but I'll admit it's still easy!
I would feel much safer with a full tank lol
And the weight is why Love's uses triple axle tankers and quad axle trucks
Sinclair does the same
I saw one tanker owner operator in Michigan with like eight axles on the trailer alone π
Smart guy
Michigan is its own world, I swear
I have a buddy that drives for Bess in Canada, out of Alberta
He hates Michigan lol
I do enjoy the fact that people in Michigan are more partial to B-Double setups
Love B-Double
You see Rocky mountains a lot here in Tulsa
Tulsa? Really? O.o
Yeah, but only passing through on the highways or off one of the industrial ramps to a receiver
Every once in a while you'll see some poor bastard that took the wrong exit with a set
Ahh oooof
Turnpike doubles interest me...
That's an interesting line of work though because you have to bring the trailers to the turnpike
Hook them up
Then when you get to your exit you have to stop, split them up, and deliver them separately
Two full size 53ft trailers won't fit anywhere in any sort of populated area
Nope
But three 20ft trailers will work c:
Articulation points ftw
I thought I wanted to get into flatbed until I thought about tarping loads in winter
Quickly decided tankers were my game
Yeah, same.
Screw that.
Sounds to me like there's always a catch to making as much money per week as that one guy does. For the amount of mileage he does, he makes great money, but then as someone said, his cost of living is also about double what any of us might pay
I'd like to get into final fuel delivery to service stations. Great money and local work
Depends on where you live.
He lives in a rural town in Idaho.
Makes more than enough to comfortably sustain his family.
I did a ton of research on cost of living and as much as I hate this state's government and roads and drivers, it's just not worth it for me to leave
Some of the lowest cost of living in the states period, and some of the best wages in the industry
Yeah, I'm keeping my main address as Louisiana.
Screw Utah and Colorado state income tax
Louisiana is a good one, but you can keep that hurricane weather
Over 10% easily if you live in Denver or Salt Lake
CA is unbelievable what they tax truckers
Yeah I stay out of CA
It makes my head hurt
They're trying to tax rain water there
My Canadian buddy is always bitching about the new carbon tax
oh god
That needs to DIE
Gee, I wonder what Canada's situation would be like for truckers π€
I work with a guy right now who used to do it for years, and he said he loved it, but he never talked about the issues of cost of living pricing
The E.U got away with it
Now look at France
He started driving 60mph everywhere he goes to save fuel but all of his savings got taken straight back in carbox tax
Yep, our carbon tax sucks
God... That sounds awful
So uh... When are they going to quit being stupid about Cannabis. I can drive a beer 4 hours before I hop in the truck, but I can't smoke a joint on my 34 hour reset
Drink*
Suck a fuck, US government
Nah probably not, DOT and FMCSA is a bunch of turds
I have never touched weed nor do I intend to, so I can't help you there
More of just a rhetorical bitching from me, lol. I feel better now.
I am a big chonk.
6ft tall at 270lbs.
This truck is smol for me and my stuff.
A lot of it I won't need soon enough. It's winter prep. Sleeping bag, massive coats, way too much clothes, things I can store in one of my cars.
2018 Kenworth T-680 coffin cab.
What motor?
Some PACCAR trash
Nice truck, but it's white hehe
Ew, MX13?
Probably.
Shitty
Doesn't go uphill to save my life when it's loaded.
Oh my God, I can't stand the one front mirror. It drives my OCD up the wall
btw that trailer is 48ft long and 14ft high
Part of our super sets
So it's underpowered for the weight it needs to transport?
It gets up a 6% grade... At 25mph...
The ten speed definitely doesn't help.
I feel bad for you
I had a 12spd Cummins T-680 when I was working for C.R England.
That was a full-size truck and it pulled better than this crate does under load.
The N14 sounds amazing. Brutal jake
π π
The Volvo VNL I did my road test for Knight Transportation in is still the nicest thing I have ever driven, car or truck.
They're amazing trucks.
We can get 5 students in the truck easy
The bottom bunk turns into a booth with a table in some of them c:
Yup
We managed to fit eight people in a Cascadia at England π
Now THAT was a sardine can
I believe it
I should probably head off and have me a nap before I get my next load.
Silly question: If you could choose between the current Kenworths you're working with now, and some of the older W900s from the 70s, which would you choose and why in regards to overall performance and quality of vehicle?
Right on buddy. I'm about to nap soon myself.
The KWs are great, but a lot of fleets like to stick the cheap underpowered motors in them
I'd choose what we have now. Simply because they're arguably more efficient and better equipped for driver comfort.
Aye
For sheer badass factor, obviously the old trucks
But that's about all they're worth now
Yeah I guess that's true haha
Better engines and transmissions would be nice, but as often as these trucks get wrecked, I understand why they make the decision not to go with a 500HP C15
Exactly the type of guy that gets one
This was his reward.
Brand spanking new Kenworth W990
That's fucking gorgeous
I think it's the only one in our fleet as well
I thought there were five but I don't believe that's the case.
I guessing he's probably an older fella with that many miles
Yeah, he's been driving for well over 30 years, and I believe he's in his 60's
Damn that's a pretty truck, I can't look away
He's also, if I remember correctly, a truck rodeo champion named Charlie.
Neat
Wow
The rodeo is actually coming up soon ish. I plan to watch him.
Sorry, I shouldn't keep you guys from your rest hehe
I'm surprised he doesn't have a "3mil safe driver" decal on the truck
The truck is the decal lmfao
Bahaha, good point
Meh, I always get to rambling. I'm not in school today so not too worried about it
Ahhhh, lady drivet
After a few years you can pick a color if you're good enough.
She chose pink
Driver*
I want a blue or black one
I like white or black myself
White is just a nightmare to keep clean, but I think it looks nice
Only reason I would have white is because our trailers are white
They do look pretty after a warsh c:
Something like a blue, light or dark, or even something like a deep and rich red would look very nice on a truck
I have a deep green car, but it's a nightmare to keep clean, you see every bit of dust and dirt on her hehe
I also like the deep reds, like Western Star's
We've got red trucks, copper trucks, black trucks, blue trucks, grey trucks... I guess a ton of drivers made their five year anniversary in 2018
My Tundra is forest green mica, agreed on the cleaning
Pollen collects on it and it turns yellow lol
So do my sinuses. I have terrible allergies
Mine have gotten better thankfully
Mine have definitely improved since I was younger but still an annoyance
I feel that. The wrong kind of cat still makes me go nuts
Haha, for sure. My allergies are mostly just the crap outside. Pollen, ragweed, dust, etc
I always just say I'm allergic to Oklahoma
π π π
Might be true! I'm allergic to Washington.
Got sick three times there. In two weeks!
Yikes
My head hates whatever those trees are.
Oregon too
I love Oregon. Wanted to move out there, but the cost of living is insane
It really is batshit crazy.
Hoo, boy... I really oughta go! Haha.
Y'all keep it in the paint, I'm 10-7.
Anywhere major, anyway. Even Bend is like 300% to national average
WOW
Didn't know that
Have a good one buddy. Motor easy
You as well π
If the design is good, why change it?
Quack
its not good
it's an block built on a block
Not aerodynamical
Not comfortable
Just overall bad
turns like a yacht
I wonder if american trucks even have turning front tires π€
pretty sure they just use the wind and the magnetic pull of the earth
False. All American truck tires are square boulders.
I'm not sure big rectangles are very aerodynamic either, though. Just saying.
Aren't personal preferences fun? :D
We actually have roads we can turn around on, though. Europe city streets are tiny. Working as intended π
They're very beautiful indeed
But hey, to each their own. Some folks love the newer Kenworth/Mack/Peterbilt designs, others have fonder memories and fascinations with the older ones
I imagine this is a similar case for European truck designs, yes?
Sorry, what does "ride over" mean?
the eu trucks
Oh ok
No pics from today, but I had my first day of school, and it went well
Ouch on those gas prices haha
Because some of us are Swift and England rejects I suppose
I told England to pound sand because they mistreated me
Came here
Wrecked a truck on ice
Am now better at driving because of it
Ice is oof
Sucks that I wrote off a truck but we live and we learn
Indeed. Now you know and can work on that 1mil safety record :)
Yeeee
Hit black ice once this winter, had to change my britches
Yeah I almost jackknifed in Montana
Eep
Was a steep downhill that curved and turned into an uphill
I wasn't expecting the black ice
No snow on the ground or anything
Well, like you said, you lived to learn from it
And got to drift a truck in the process!
Fortunately I hit it on flat interstate and was able to kick the trailer back around
Phew
Crazy shit
I gotta go, need to get to Colorado Springs by 5:30 AM. it's a ten hour drive
Haha those diesel prices
Here it's 1.30 for 1 litre. Nvm a gallon.
I could put in Β£500 in a tank if I'm empty.
4.5 litres to a gallon. So that's like $6.5 to a gallon
We pay $7 per gallon or like $1.85 per litre
For diesel
$2 per litre for gasoline or $7.65 for a gallon
Yeah America get it soooo cheap
Got my pay raised by 20 cents π
I-80 is shut down due to a blizzard.
Wasn't sure I'd make it through, but my truck is graced with snow tires on the drives. π
Well considering this is Wyoming
About six to ten inches
How icy is it over there?
Enough to make me WhoAoAoA!
Saw that forecast @thick cedar . I was like well, shit
Yikes
I think they reopened some of the highway because trucks are migrating to the East
Looks like a hard layer of ice ya got there
It's actually a slush box now
Yummy
Plows came through
Snowcones anyone?
Updated picture
Had to put my reefer on start/stop because it's super low on fuel :/
Ye ole sentry cycle
Lol your truck stop neighbors appreciate it
That's for sure
Reefers are so loud RIP
Hell, I can't even sleep with my own reefer running. Too used to pulling dry loads.
Hahah
Did you end up making it to the Springs?
Got out and walked around. Tried to help a driver get unstuck with rock salt... Didn't work
Womp womp
T800 wrecker showed up to save the day
Beastin
Aw yis
Quad axle rotator
$200,000 truck easy
So while we waited for the wrecker he bought me a sandwich and a drink π
That was nice of him
Gotta love when you run across other drivers that aren't complete self centered turds
Yeah, dude was cool as hell.
I went inside and got him his coffee, cigs and food for he and his dog. In exchange he let me use some of the money he gave me for foods c:
Trying to find what local companies will let me bring my dog
Not as easy of a feat in a day cab π
That's gonna be a hard one
I feel that
So glad I quit smoking recently. I would have smoked 3 packs a day in this line of work
I mean, I still vape because I'm a slave to nicotine. But better than smoking I suppose
oh god
Yeah, it's better for you and the smell of your truck
I hate being given a truck that someone has Vaped/smoked in
It's disgusting
Lol yeah. Cigarettes are nasty
I keep my window down so the residue doesn't build up, so there's that at least. Not sure if you've seen how much film builds up on the glass from vaping
It's crazy
Lol yeah it'll do that
I smoke a black and mild maybe twice a week but I'd never smoke one in the truck. Such a pungent smell
nah, it won't smell if you know how the side window works

People who think things don't leave a smell because you roll the window down have clearly never passed over a skunk
That stays with you for a while
If you have the A/C running it can take a few miles...
Was it a skunk? Or was it a Colorado driver?
Aw hell
Don't even get me started on the Salt Lake π
Lol
Colorado rivers are a'ight actually
I was just making a weed joke lol
idk, it's +16C rn
But we are expected 30cm of snow friday
Turning from spring to winter again
All the stoners in Colorado haha
Everyone doing 25
Then again... Almost everyone in Denver is from California.
I'm not really surprised that they drive like they're lobotomized.
Bahahah
I was born in Cali but moved away young. 5yo
Been all over the South and midwest
I've driven truck through there. And my girlfriend lives there. That's about it.
Dallas-FW was probably my favorite area
Because the on ramps dump cars doing 40 into traffic that's doing 80 with no runway
Gas it or get off the ramp buddy
I've almost killed many a idiot because they just don't know where the gas is
Ain't nobody got time for that in DFW
Do you americans have people overtaking a truck and exiting the ramp right next to you
LOVE IT
Thats Oulu in a nutshell
So many people do that, it's infuriating
They pass you like 20cm away
If that
making you brake for the lols
It's great when they overtake you on the left
Then blast in front of you with about a foot between your bumper and theirs to get to their exit on your right
Cut in front so close you can't even see their rear bumper
It's like... Dude, you know what happens if my ~80k lbs runs over you?
I promise it won't be a fender bender
Love the dash ornament
Thanks!
Oh well. That's what dash cams are for. If I roll over you when you cut me off, not my problem
I'm still trying to wrap my head around that driver not ditching his truck on the runaway ramp on 70
He went RIGHT BY IT
Old picture of I-70 I took like a month ago
Beautiful blue skies
Dude I've seen people send it through the grass up onto their exit
Absolute mad lads π
Hell, most don't even deserve a license to ride a bike
I fear these new level 2 automated trucks are just going to make shit worse
Turn on adaptive cruise and lane keep, pass out
Lane keep assist and blind spot assist is level 2
Just released a Cascadia with it
aids
Pure AIDS
I can barely deal with traction control being a thing
At CES 2019 in Las Vegas, Daimler Trucks unveiled its latest innovation for its Class 8 Freightliner Cascadia semi truck. Beginning in July, the popular haul...
Just give me a diff I can lock and I'll decide when I need that, thanks
I'll admit... That's a beautiful rig
I mean, I'll take the auto wipes and adaptive high beams
but
Take that autopilot shit and shove it
This
Nah, 3+ rigs following each other in a line. The first truck has a driver but the other trucks behind it are 100% automated, no driver
Oh Jesus tits
All of the companies trying to pioneer automation went with the idea at first
But it's just not feasible and ended up actually losing money on fuel instead of saving
It's all fun and games until an automated truck thinks it isn't pulling a trailer when it is
Swift 2: Electric Boogaloo
hahah
There were just too many traffic events that caused the platoons to split apart
so in the effort of trying to regroup constantly, it wasted a ton of fuel compared to human drivers
That's hilarious
Because they're flooring it to catch up π
Supposedly they are starting road testing on Level 4 automation this year
Automated driving with no driver input, just there to monitor
Can we just
Not?
Terrifying idea, but could be beneficial for long long long stretches
But I just don't see how it's safe. If you have a huge stretch of highway and the driver gets distracted reading, being on their phone, etc.... they won't be monitoring the truck sufficiently if something happens
To be fair
They are trying to see if the system works properly on its own
but... but..
What's a few casualties towards progress, EH?
I'm sure it'll be fine in most cases. But who gets the blame when the computer screws up and runs over a family?
The driver? The company? The manufacturer?
God only knows
My money is on the driver lol
Yee
I really should sleep... Still haven't yrt
Nighty night
Looks like phone while driving
Traffic was gridlocked
Ranger and a few others were inching forward but I kept my distance
How dare you wield a phone while inching through traffic
eyeroll
@thick cedar I-5?
I-25 through Denver
π
Damn, I kinda miss west side
Lived in Arvada for ~3 years
The only thing I don't miss is that shitty traffic
76 isn't too bad but 70 sucks
Yeah
Sun is trying to peek through the clouds lol
It's a Peterbilt 579.
Alberto that's not nice...
Literally stock apart from the flow below kit, bull bar and livery.
I'd even avoid replying to be honest, guy just been causing issues today
just curious as to what he drives...
ahh, so youre a full time passenger, nice
hell yeah brother, sink the clog and let jesus take the wheel
not even religious but...
sounded cool
π im joking bro @lime silo
@lime silo man relax i dont want to argue
"i dont want to argue" comes here out of nowhere to call a truck shit
And tells another homie to shut up
@paper bear lets teach this guy an lesson π
bro its just a train driver
when driving is too difficult, get behind something thats on rails.
Lmao, this kid salty
I thought of being a train engineer. It's all unionized and you need to know someone here in the states though. Would like to ride a train through the mountains though, if nothing else.
I'd rather be a truck driver in real life, a friend let me try train sim on his laptop, wasn't my cup of tea
what an ugly pos
ive seen bigger trams
and train driving would be waaaaay too boring
sorry, train riding
Train Sim honestly turned me off it as well. Couldn't do that every single day. Way too easy.
Discovered a dead headlight last night. Upsetti spaghetti
I'd imagine you don't
Kenworth T-680.
The engine is trash.
The transmission is worth more as scrap.
And it's like riding in a rock shaker.
But she's my girl and I love her c:
Does the bull bar help you out much?
Only if someone brake checks me in a midsize car or I hit a deer.
It can save your front bumper
It already saved the radiator from an Elk strike by pushing it up and to the side.
It looks rusted from the photo but it's probably not
Hood took a beating, drivers mirror got destroyed, and the antlers dented the door and cab
Nah that's just our orange paint
That's a neat choice for orange haha
Nah, an animal strike is considered a non-preventable accident.
If the Elk runs in front of you at 65, you're better off hitting the poor bastard.
stupid bastard*
yep
It was the guy who had the rig before me who had the accident. Truck was in the shop for a couple weeks before I got it.
I might be getting a new truck... This one is leaking oil and coolant.
But they aren't leaking onto the ground.
rip
Yeah.
Worst case scenario, that's a head gasket.
it could just be leaking then evaporating, if it isnt in the oil
True, I haven't seen any traces of it in the oil yet. But the truck is also burning oil so that's another issue π
Only 225,000 miles on her as well... Should not be doing this
I guess when you change the oil only every 60,000 miles, bad things happen.
eeeeh, trucks are designed to go a while without changing oil
@thick cedar since your american
Tell me do the new cummins engine sound anything like the old ones
From 90's to 2000's
My 2016 T-680 had a pretty good sounding Cummins, and I knew it was a Cummins from the sound of it before I even opened the hood, but it sounded nothing like an old N14. It was a newer ISX engine.
For sure.
I hate this PACCAR @~@
Doesn't pull uphill to save its life though
I'd bet I've got the lowest end one, whatever that might be
Mmm... The Cummins sounded a bit like that
https://youtu.be/lyUlq92jqOg its an mack but still sounds like an big cam ;) @thick cedar
π
That doesnt sound anything like the good old ones
https://youtu.be/o7xSCkCY_6U im breaking the rules here, but this is what i want in my ride
So my training truck is a Freightliner Columbia from 2006. It has been beat up, but it runs
Pics coming when the weather won't ruin my camera
Welcome to the club, Fallen :D
@queen brook that Cummins sounds wicked. Such a loud turbo
Oh, jokes on me
I was so confused
But, that's my knowledge of euro trucks for you
Why would a Sisu have a Renault logo on the wheel?
JΓΆlli, is your truck equipped with Robson Drive?
Yes
π
Slick truck you got there, Bernhard
Amanda driving that new new volvo
@thick cedar time to wash that truck haha
also, I don't understand why anyone has their brights on off the highway
/rage
Yeee haha
^
That's pretty
The black bull bar is π
Ouchies, if you can't find it grind it is the way to go https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EJH5IVmkYNQ
Student driver grinding gears. The transmission actually survived.
Jesus, use your clutch brake man
Also, why select 4 different gears while rolling to a stop at such a low speed lmao
He was stopped
Not at all times
0:24 he's completely stopped grinding it
What I was referring to
That poor tranny, oh lawwwwd
And this is one of the reasons fleets are moving to all automatics xD
I hearing like fork and knife sketching on plate.
"Are you a real life trucker? Cool! Share your truck pics and experiences here! For random truck pics, use #photos"

Wait bernard. Do you drive that? Or sit passenger?
@high zephyr
@queen brook just watched that video, oh lord the grinding is real xD
Ugh...
Winter strikes back
Whew that windshield
That's a big fine and points on your license where I'm at
What are you guys doing out there? Forestry?
The last semi I rode in was on my aunt and uncle's farm roughly 15 years ago. It was a Kenworth, I would assume a W900, but I can't say for sure. It was amazing getting to climb into this loud behemoth as a kid, and sit in the passenger seat and cruise around a field that was soon to be harvested
We got rush hour
Spintires!
How we know which trucks have been detailed
Literally everyone has said that at least twice it seems like
And here I am liking the nudge bar.
Well hes stuck, this is getting interesting
He had to reverse all the way back
Took a while
Snow really isnt fun
Yesterday vs today
big diffrence
I love snow
I just don't love it when it sticks around when we're well into Spring
Snow is fine, ice can pound sand
Good bye youuu
so much chrome and red light shining on it
π

yeah, in my dreams. cos renaults are better than sisu
Still better than scania π
at what? scrap materials?
Basically scanias are useless when it comes to off road
still worse than mercedes
they can't even manage at highway without breaking lmao
this is when the big v8 roars past you up the hills
youre left helpless
struggling up the hills π
and let me guess, here you come with the powered tag excuse?
nah scania will blow the drive axle before halfway π€£
Because they are made of foil
riiight, your hightech renault wont even know how much its got
You know, when your drive axle can take 41 tonnes thats when you are allowed to talk to me
peasant
listen, when you dont have to drop below 35mph on any incline, thats when you can talk to me
peasant
oh nvm, im sorry for being wrong, it lasted 62 tonnes for 15 seconds
withotu breaking tho
so fuck you and your 20 tonnes lmaio
then it inmploded, and the chassis snapped in half when it hit the ground
we'll see whos lorry is still running in 20 years time π your thing will be long blown up
whilst the ol v8 will still be roaring
Not really, we have a 998 model
still lasting
no problem
thats 21 years of hard work a scania couldnt take
oops
scania could take it easy, you just couldnt afford the upkeep on it
so it got ran into the ground
And since you aren't even allowed to carry 76 tonnes idk why i would talk to you about something lasting more mass
π€£
ive carried over 80 tonnes in a scania π
for a meter
a long way,
2 miles isn't really a long wa yimo
you wish
youll understand one day
Oh lord that chat
^^
Lol these guys arguing about 80k. Chump weight
Meanwhile, Macks Petes and KWs dragging 200k+ daily around here
Stock truck?
stock from manufacturer
π
