I’ve been in quite a few scanias recently and they are growing on me, now volvos just sound like they are screaming whereas scanias you hear and sort of feel the boost
I’ve also been in a few of the 4 series Mercs and it just feels like you’re sat in a car, I’m not a fan

Semi trailer is inefficient, you get only 24 or 26 pallet floorspace/12 or 13m palletmetre, It becomes dangerous to drive in winter especially in some stupid 4x2 which cant lift axles or shift weight in any way, it gets stuck everywhere if you have no weight over the wheels, When you add a truck that has another 8 or 7m box, you get suddenly 14 or 16 more pallet space, you bump the cargo capacity suddenly into 40pal/20m.. More stuff gets moved by single driver.. No need to pay for 2 semi trucks for their drivers, and not to mention running costs, Also its way more fuel efficient to do it with single truck than 2 @thick cedar
Also semi trailer tonnage is only 44 tons (50 here), you can load to a proper truck and trailer combination up to 76 tons with no problem, Mass is also a keyfactor especially in loose material and log driving where cargo weights more than you could fit normally withn weight limits if it were some 44 ton toy

Most countries aren’t lucky enough to have full weight limits, like most of Europe is 40t and 4m high so a full combo becomes more inefficient, in the uk there is no real height restriction and the limit is 44t so the rule of thumb is normally 4.5m as any bridge under that height has to be sign posted. Our general combo is a semi with a 4.5m~ trailer for general work and supermarket fridge work. Everything else is around 4m to comply with the general EU height restriction
Also the majority of the industry over here is with semi trailers so if you got a full combo you can be restricted to what work you can do
Like I’ve said it all depends on where you are based as to what is efficient or not

I've cut in between a truck and a car trying to break check it once, truck was down to about 20kph (in busy traffic) so I got behind the car and pushed it. scared him enough for him to speed off without attempting to exchange insurance. light blue VW vans maybe cute, but their drivers aren't.

I remember coming home from a job about a year and a half ago, roads were basically dead apart from the odd truck and a few cars. I'd pulled onto the motorway behind a truck, and as I went to overtake it, I realised it was trailing over into my lane. I decided to stay back and hope he just hadn't noticed. I followed this prick for 4-5km while he swerved over both lanes. When I finally got the chance I got a bit of a run up and hoped for the best. alow and behold the dumb fek was on his phone.
so no. heavy traffic or not. it's a dumbass move. there's no need to be on your phone.
And I don't use my phone while driving full stop. So I'm not sure why you're bringing me into this.

And actually Potter the company I work for have a couple of 750 and 730 and all of the 750 are now getting traded in cuz they consume the most fuel of all of our trucks and way more than our 730, so all of the 750 are getting traded in to new 540 with dual clutch and liftable tandem axle while the Scania 730s are still going strong 💪🏻

Actually that’s false or at least in our company, we have specifically assigned trucks to each driver etc. In my case I have a 2016 Scania R580 which will be swapped in about a year and a half. And trust me if the boss would tell me I got a Volvo I would have 2 words for him “I quit”
And yes DrDog it most likely is since it’s Norway, most of our trucks have that disabled, I mean my Scania gets grumpy to lift the rear axle if I’m too heavy but I can force it up my holding the weight change button in until it’s loaded all over from be rear axle to the drive axle and then ofc it lifts it

I could, but its not really any interesting stuff to see on it as its just normal winter roads. What happened there was that he met other vehicles not sticking to their side of the road so he went a bit too close to the snow bank on his right side and if you get into it it basically sucks your whole vehicle off the road in a second
Has been close to happen to me last year once but I was able to drag myself back onto the road again, drove about 200m half off the road with the truck bouncing up and down and was certain that I was gonna roll over and crash hard into the trees. Had to find a parking spot after that and get out and take a smoke break as I was shaking so badly xD
But I do actually have about 20 minutes of footage recorded last night in the heavy snow that I'm about to add up to a time-lapse later tonight I thought

Yep. US trucking is so full of pressure to drive on little to no sleep, and down-time-related regulations are completely ignored by a lot of companies. The most important effect of this would be to enforce regulations on the companies and protect both the drivers and everyone around them on the road.

Well, a lot of places that don't normally get snow shut down when they get any because they can't make the roads safe. Very little, if any, in the way of plows or salt or grit or anything is available. Plus, nobody has winter tires or (in nastier cases) chains, and nobody in those areas actually understands how to drive on snow or ice.

But they are great in the snow because you can just keep the foot flat on the floor and just steer away and have no fear of going too fast

Modern diesels in cars you can’t do a lot with them without spending a lot of money so if you want a diesel you need something that’s all mechanical. They’re extremely simple and the engines in general are over engineered so you can just throw fuel and boost at them as you please

I remember putting an in-line lump from an international into an old Land Rover. We turned it all the way down and it was still rolling coal. It’s been on the car for a few years now with no problems washing the cylinder walls or melting any pistons so it shows just how well engineered some diesels are

biggest work i had to do in the engine to throw the electric pump out and replace it with older mechanical pump, was to run throttle cable (was electric pedal) and run a shutoff cable
the pump itself sat in the same hole with no problems

The thing with fuel systems is that they are standalone systems built for manufacturers instead of being developed by manufacturers. So the likelihood of someone like Bosch making fuel pumps is that they will have a generic design and fitment for the pump then leave it to the manufacturers to make it fit their engines

I dont know what the electric pump was, was it basically same pump as the earlier one but replaced with more computer witchcraft
But it was the first thing to go when i got the engine out of the donor car
