Talk about The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England here!

You do not have to tag any spoilers from the book in this post. You don't have to tag the fact that The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England crosses over with other stories, but you do have to tag content from within those other stories.

criminally underrated

Not particularly inclined to. I liked it a lot more than the general consensus.

#

It might have been a mistake to release one non-cosmere book bundled with 3 cosmere books. Rather than being well received by a small audience, it was poorly received by a large one.

yeah, its by far the least exciting of the secret projects

#

but on its own, its pretty god wiht a really good climax

#

i think people just tend to resent him for writing this over cosmere stuff

#

even if they dont realize it, i see this a lot in various group chats under th surface

That he wrote it, or that they were forced* to buy it.
* Not literally, but you know what I mean. Only applies to people who backed the crowdfunding campaign.

I haven't seen anyone resenting the book for being noncosmere, the sentiment I've seen is more "meh, it was okay" than hate (I think I might be the most negative person I know on it and even then I think it was mooostly decent looking back on it) - which comes off more negative in comparison to the largely rave reviews Tress and Yumi got. There are probably some people genuinely thinking it's bad just for existing and I just haven't talked to them though lol

I get the impression noncosmere releases already get less hype, and then frugal was not only packaged with cosmere releases but with some popular favourite cosmere releases

Frugal could have been a favorite non-cosmere release. It just wasn't

It's not The Rithmatist, but I liked it better than Moment Zero. I'd probably put it ahead of Legion as well. It's about even with Reckoners to me.

This is a funny one

Definitely better than moment zero
Most of TR was kind of a letdown
Was still cool though

#

Also hang on guys
Are we sure it’s non-cosmere?
Cuz I have a theory

#

Since there are supposedly infinite dimensions in FW, the only thing stopping one of the visitable ones from being the cosmere is if they had to have some version of Earth at some point, and the cosmere doesn’t and never had Earth in it (which isn’t specified I think)

brisk glen
#

Another thing that would stop a visitable one from being the cosmere is having a multiverse

Hypothetically perhaps you could find a dimension identical to the Cosmere (though it's unlikely it would be remotely stable), but it wouldn't be the Cosmere because any actions you take there would have zero effects on the universe the Cosmere books are in

Ah good point

I hadn’t seen the marginalia with captions before! So good!
Do you know if Steve Argyle wrote the captions? Or someone else?

Ahhhhh so cute!!! Having only had the ebook version, it’s hard to appreciate the marginalia in their full glory.
One day I’ll get the proper Dragonsteel version…
