You can yeah, I just never really understand doing that. Sinners is one of the best movies I've ever seen but if I wanna watch Attack of the Clones at a given moment that's what I'm gonna watch

If Project Hail Mary and Sinners had stuff in common I would get it. But they're different genres, have different themes, and are completely different structures. So to say that one is better than the other just feels weird.
There's a really good essay I like comparing God's Not Dead to Midnight Mass because both of them deal with representations of faith, athiesm, sacrifice, and redemption dispite one being a movie about a kid in college fighting with a professor and the other being a fantasy-horror movie

Like I agree that it’s a great adaptation and captures the vibe super well and I had a good time. But yeah it really drove home for me that even if the adaptation for Mistborn is as good as PHM, I just would so much rather have more new books telling new stories. Because even a stellar film adaptation is going to have to cut so much, it just will never quite live up to the books for me.

Like the best I can hope for with a Mistborn film is that it’s fun and a good time that leaves me with no gripes. That feels like the upper echelon of what it can be. But losing out on a new secret project for what at best will be a fun 2-3 hours… still a bit depressing

TL:DR I enjoyed it, but the book was infinitely better. On the scale from "Bad bad bad!" to "Amaze amaze amaze!" I rate it one amaze with a period
PHM movie and book all ||Not a fan of the goofier tone and kind of dumber Grace. I get why it had to be the way they made it, but the beginning after Grace just woke up was a lot weaker for me. The science scenes were so trimmed they were practically cut, which added to Grace feeling dumbed than in the book. The earth flashbacks in the book were great and important. Their loss was hurt a bit. Especially the scene where they nuked the ice caps. ||

Project Hail Mary ||I generally liked Rocky, some of the jokes were big misses for me. I was expecting a lot more stuff with learning to translate him, maybe that's book stuff that was cut. In terms of plot it was an interesting mystrey. The climactic action sequence was fine, I liked the twist after they each departed for their own planets and the ending was nice. ||

this might seem weird but did the movie have any F-bombs? There were a couple moments in my screening where the movie was muted for a split second but I'm not sure if it was some sort of weird censoring or just a problem with the tech. The credits also were cut off and it just showed a solid green screen. On that note, was their any after credit stuff?

in addition to what everyone said PHM book ||Eridians also hadn't discovered relativistic physics so they hadn't expected the time dilation that came with traveling at high percent of c. So it could be that Rocky was also saved by the fact that he was constantly tinkering with them, as an engine expert it was his job, and that they spent less astrophage than planned. ||

So I was simultaneously disappointed with the crunchy science stuff being cut, and yet entirely in agreement that they made the right call in the choices they made. Very fun movie adapted pretty much perfectly, but losing that crunch is unfortunately a big deal for me at least when comparing enjoyment of the film to the book. ||

OPLA S2E5||yeah Little Garden was great. Didn't expect Dorry and Broggy to look so good when fighting, thought there would be more uncanny valley with them but they looked incredible. Also the Giant song playing at the end and during the song is cool. This got me even more excited for the last 3 episodes. Also very glad they made all of this into a season and let Alabasta be Season 3, the suggestion to put the whole saga into one season would've made everything insanely rushed||

Saw the Project Hail Mary Movie
||I thought it was really good. Truthfully I think they should have cut out more plot points in order to give some of the bigger ones time to set in and all that. The movie was focused a lot more on the character side of things rather than the science, which I really enjoyed. Reading the book I never actually got the sense of loneliness that Grace and Rocky must have experienced, but I was on the verge of tears with the opening scene of the movie. It just hit so much harder.||

It is what I really like about her, that she was aware that taking her position would likely mean death or imprisonment. But man I am glad that she lived and is free. I also like that Grace admitted that she was right.||

Another thing that the movie added that I really like is ||Carl||

I do wish that ||we got to see some of the actions to mitigate the effects on the Earth. It would have been cool to see Antarctica nuked. We don’t get to see any of the pushback, which diminishes some of the sacrifices. The movie still works great without that though, and I accept the karaoke scene as a great replacement.||

OPLA S2 all|| they really nailed Choppers backstory, i cried several times during episode 7 wow. Quite liked that they had Wapol make metal soldiers so the other Straw Hats were kept busy, in the manga/anime Zoro and Usopp are just in the village and arrive too late for the fight. Also Sanji and Chopper teaming up was nice. This season was a major improvement to Season 1, which was already pretty good. I think my only major criticism is that Luffy still doesnt really feel like the force of nature he is portrayed as in the manga/anime. Understandable they don't show that since having him flying across the screen, breaking rocks or throwing people twice his size around is probably hell to stunt coordinate and do CGI for but im hoping in Season 3 they really show off what he can do.||

||luffy in the manga doesnt really work as a character, i think some of the most cringe moments in the show are when they go too close to the source material||

||I think that's true for some, but other times the show has Luffy just outright state themes/his beliefs in a way that feels a little netflix second screen writing-y, and are a more shallow and generic version of those ideas. And those just make me wish they were willing to be bolder with his show characterization in the way the manga is.||

OPLA S2 + OP Manga ||It doesn't need to be the same visually, but the manga sets up from before the fight has started that Wapol is offended by the idea of a pirate flag being flown on his palace. The live action could have done that, it makes sense for him to be offended by the symbolism of a pirate flag in his throne room, but instead it just has him suddenly say "and i really hate that pirate flag!" the moment before he shoots it.||

||It also has Luffy be the one to hang the flag, and has him directly see how it's really important to Chopper. In the manga Luffy doesn't know anything about it, which is how it makes the point that he will just defend the convictions behind a pirate flag on principle. In the show it's not about the principle, it's about knowing it matters to Chopper and about his own decision to hang it up.||

OPLA S2 ||I like the decision to give Zoro visions of Mihawk, and I think it was overall a fantastically executed action sequence. But in terms of characterizing how Zoro feels after losing to Mihawk I do think it's kind of weak and less interesting than how the manga does it. It's a neat window into Zoro's mind, and makes it clearer to the audience that Zoro has feelings about what happened. But it's also just, doesn't actually tell us anything new about Zoro or have him actually change. It's just "Zoro wants to be stronger so he can beat Mihawk" which was already the case immediately after we saw him lose to Mihawk. And the whole sequence doesn't really get him anywhere further on that, cause in the end it's just taking out fodder the entire time. Which is weird when the visions set it up like he has to get better in some way in order to beat 100. Like, he doesn't though.||

In the manga it's honestly more of a "woah, look at how badass Zoro is" showcase than something to explore his character, and that's fine, that's appropriate for a battle against a hundred fodder enemies. If the show wants it to be him personally challenging himself then let's lean into that more, make it a trickier fight where he struggles and then improves in order to be able to beat them all.||

||i think there are several points where adherence to the manga hurts then a little bit. If you want zoro to be more of a dynamic character with an arc, that is great. As is we did get an incredible scene however||

Its pretty clear to me that they had a scaffolding in the first couple episodes and the last couple episodes that were "new" and the middle chunk was overwhelmingly the old stuff before a change of direction, and that had none of the old cast in it

Iron Fist s2 was actually the one I enjoyed the most of the bunch, it was a big improvement over the first season. (Enjoyed most doesn't equal "best", of course, but I'd still put it above some of the other seasons of other shows.)
