Barbie
Is this a reference to that park Chan woo film
Uh citizen kane
Please watch Arrival 🙏
No this is obaa
Frankenstein 2025
Maybe tarkovskys stalker actually thats a good one
I love stalker
idk im bad with movie recs of people idk the taste of
The Gamers: Dorkness Rising
It's about this group playing DnD and it's free on YouTube and it's the best movie ever
I am DAMN happy that Jordan and Coogler got their awards tho
Skinamarink
Longlegs
I'm glad they at least got recognition
One friekorps after another one more than it shouldve but at least chalamet didnt get best actor
It was over when OBAA got Best Casting tbh
Please tell me that last Conan skit isn’t serious. I know it is not but if next year is hosted by… Mr. Beast it would be the end of cinema
I wish Wheel of Time would have gotten some emmy noms because S3 was great
Oh wow thanks for the recs guys! Yall are goated
suddenly terrified that Chalamet might be about to make a movie with Alejandro González Iñárritu
That movie is fantastic, think I watched it in 2024
Make hideo kojima host the oscars i think
watch Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
that would be really funny
Golden is lowkey overrated
Golden's popularity is funny to me in a meta sense
Remember when TGA ended with Highguard announcement? Good times
Well, yeah. Every song that gets played endlessly is overrated, that's sorta how it goes.
KPDH getting so popular is odd to me tbh
its like a solid 7/10 kids movie but not much more
Yeahhhh What It Sounds Like is my favorite from the movie. Golden is pretty low on my personal list
They made this song to be a top-of-the-charts streaming-everywhere song of a fictional world and then it also hit that IRL
It's very similar to Hakuna Matata in that a lot of people love that song even though it is the antithesis of the theme of the movie
Nah that’s not why. I just prefer What It Sounds Like
Yeah, like it is deliberately hard to perform so they've pitched it lower in live performances
4/16 is better than 0/11 (the color purple was genuinely just robbed)
So like I wish they won more too but I also didnt realize how stacked this year was
What it Sounds Like is my favorite
There are a lot of movies releasing this year next year’s Oscars will be interesting
Which doesn't change the range for difficulty but maybe not as straining on the voice
OBAA shouldve just gotten 0/0 man that movie is horrible
And hey, 16 nominations ain't nothing either
Also need to mention Your Idol because that’s tied for first
I’m glad Marty Supreme walked away with nothing, annoying movie made by annoying people
I forget, how many did OBAA get out of their 13 noms?
I blacklisted it when I heard it had Kevin O Leary
tbh I dont like Your Idol
Here's an overly long and all over the place list of movies I love: Alien, Treasure Planet, 2001 a space Odyssey, zathura, 28 days later, city of god, portrait of a lady on fire, raiders of the lost ark, amélie, get out, SLC punk, stalker, rocky horror picture show, star wars of course
hes the shark tank dude right
Among many worse things
I don't know that I'd say it was horrible, but Sinners was absolutely the better movie
I think they said 6
Zathura mention in 2026??? Oh you know ball my friend 🥴🫱🏽🫲🏾
It's best to look it up cause his crap goes way outside the server's bounds but he's a garbage human being yes
Hey let's not throw around accusations of pedophilia just because someone "looks the type"
Idk if he's exactly that though
oh not his looks just that kind of rich people tends to be that
Like this outfit also just screams annoying
Dubai rich aesthetic
Yeah, but the internet exists so you could look it up instead of just throwing it around like that
I'll be interested to see next year's, coz there aren't tons of movies I'm interested in this year that seem like fits, but also I didnt expect to see a lot of the ones I did last year
Especially given the current climate
what movies are this year
Amelie i really need to get on to watching tbh
Can't wait to see PHM get borderline 0 noms while Spielberg wins everything for the same type of movie
I'm mainly looking forward to PHM, supergirl, and dune 3
Mortal kombat 2!! XD
Odyssey is the big one but I’m not really interested in Nolan that much after his last few movies
Dune 3 is this year??? Sick
Watch Hans Zimmer win another award for a score he didnt write
Project Hail Mary, Dune Part 3, Supergirl
DUNE 3 IS THIS YEAR???
oh odyssey is this year
none, they are not doing movies anymore
Mama mia
thats gonna sweep
Dune 3 december this year!!
Wait really
Denis time to cook
I didn't realize Dune Messiah was so soon
December 18
Dude I gotta dune it up, I haven't seen the second one
Same day as avengers 5
Movies: Dead Poet’s Society, Pride and Prejudice, End of Evangelion (watch Evangelion first), Star Wars, Dune, LotR
All of the directors saw Chainsaw Man and declared, "cinema is over, we've done it all"
Can’t wait to watch them butcher the story
Digger with Tom cruise is one I’m really hoping is good because I think if it’s executed well it could be one of my favourites
I just finished reading Circe today lol
Yessssss
hate the guy he actually did a pretty solid job
dont care if its that accurate to the poem
I think seeing timmy go from Marty Supreme to Dune 3 will be... interesting
Girl that's the good one
So I am mildly fresh on my Odysseus lore
The more I see of the Odyssey movie, the less excited I am
I'm really excited for Dune though
hes probbly gonna swap back from his pretentious arthouse aesthetic to his So Relatable gamer aesthetic
It just seems very “look we have all these hot cool stars come see”
It would depend, really. I think if it's gonna deviate a bunch just make a different movie
It'll almost certainly be my favourite movie of the year
Don’t worry spider verse 3 will surely come out this year after all the last movie said it would be out in March 2024…
i wasnt the biggest fan of dune
Dune 3, new Star Wars, Spiderman, Avengers
There's a good chance I won't see Odyssey tbh
Oh Brother Where Art Thou is, to this day, one of the best adaptations of The Odyssey
Nothing about it has interested me
Now, if Epic the musical were a movie instead…
Milly Alcock Best Actress nomination #incoming 🙏 🙏 🙏
Idk if you knew this but that movie has a June 2027 release date now
Person, do you like movies?
You were excited?
I saw Odyssey
Every decision ive seen and heard is so perplexing
Odyssey is cool
Yeah… yeah
-# yes that was the joke
Matt Damon lead movie in 2026 is bold I’ll give it that
its a 3k year old poem its just as much a poem as its a cultural touchstone tbh
im not that excited for it but deviating from the peom a lot is fine
yeah
I don’t have any particular attachment to the source material
I don’t either but Nolan’s recent track record hasn’t been great
Tenet was incoherent but fun!
i dont think i like any of nolans movies
What
The Odyssey has been retold a buncha different ways over time like, a lack of complete adherence to the original epic isnt what's of particular concern here
Hmmm I need to watch Mickey 17 at some point
The third line of the movie: Don't try to understand it, just feel it
Me: Oh okay cool brain switch off now
And then I loved it
I love Tenet it's so fun rewatching it
That movie had such fun vibes
you should watch Real Steel
Memento and Oppenheimer are probably his best movies
Yo Real Steel is fire
Tenet sound mixing is a crime
i only watched openheimer because of the barenheimer thing
barbenheimer was super fun tbh
Barbie was goated
i didnt really like barbie but it was fun
Barbie is so damn good my god
I fell asleep during Oppenheimer when we watched at home lol
Out of all the CBMs this year I could actually see Clayface getting some Oscar noms
Yeah in the new Odyssey ||Zendaya is Athena ||
Barbie was really good
Same. It was nice to have a detox after such an emotionally wrecking movie, I'm def glad I watched Barbie first
Did they keep Alan Tudyk
Greta's doing the Magician's Nephew adaptation and i really hope it's good
im looking forward to it
ive heard some :/ things from interviews, but she's bought some benefit of the doubt for now
We also have (Odyssey) || Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Matt Damon as Odysseus, Robert Pattinson as Antinuous, Charlize Theron as Circe|| so uh yeah. Definitely a movie of all time.
He just cast all of his friends lmao
That is some insane casting
I agree with this. I’ll watch and see but I’m hesitant.
Oh right Odyssey exists
This just sucks https://x.com/geoffkeighley/status/2033350009857663040
Yeah what are the chances of a ||Athena Telemachus romance||
For those who don’t know David Keighley was literally one of THE driving forces behind IMAX
Not 0 I tell you that
This feels like a startling large omission
It is completely asinine he wasn’t included
Good kpop won
My fan theory is that Nolan is gonna shadow drop The Illiad month before The Odyssey comes out
I have no evidence to support this
i am not lying i will straight up give you all of my assets if you are correct on this
Fun fact: this is an Oscar winning film
wasnt it best make p?
Yup
Do we have a lawyer in the chat?
I mean make up looks solid enough from what ive seen
Michael B. Jordan should get two of them lil Oscars trophies. One for each brother
Something interesting is that with the Best Casting and Best Cinematography wins a woman has now won every non-gendered Oscar.
And a man hasn’t as this is Castings first year.
This is officially an Oscar winning line delivery
what's wrong with lawyers
a lot of them are just not good people
even if we took that as true, they are not all bad people and there's nothing inherently wrong with being one. you don't need to express disgust at the idea; that can be kept as an inside thought. 🙂
no but there is something inhernetly wrong with being a lawyer in the law system of most countries because said law is injust and horrible in most countries
Okay this is a discussion for another channel now
most of what most lawyers do is extremely mundane stuff like "hey can you write up standard contract for this thing" and "hey can you read this contract i have to sign to make sure it's fine"
You know is a really good lawyer though?
few do criminal work
and there's y'know. defense lawyers.
oh i wasnt even refering to criminal work lmao
Peculiar, you're making some pretty vast generalizations. If you're interested in being open-minded about this, we can talk about it in DMs. If you're not, we'll drop the subject here. Regardless, in the future, don't express disgust, or the opinion that they're inherently immoral, at large groups like careers in this server. Feel whatever you want, but be kind out loud.
REAL STEEL MENTION IN 2026??? oooooooo you know ball good sir
real steel went hard i watched it last year
GoT s2e1 || Goddamn this show knows how to hook you in. It’s easily the most dense live action show I’ve tried to watch all the way through. Which isn’t a lot, but still… the density works to its benefit.
I honestly don’t know how to summarize my feelings towards each plotline and I LOVE that goddamn||
It’s soooo good
It is astonishing at how well real steel holds up
Like I also watched it last year while I was getting my hair braided and me and my braider were locked in 🤣
What is? Game of thrones or real steel?
Dude that’s just wicked
GoT s2e2 || I have a feeling something really bad will come from Arya telling that boy the Gold Cloaks are looking for her||
|| Also it seems Joffrey has issued an order to kill all of Robert’s bastard children||
GoT general || Game of Thrones is the second show I’ve seen that acknowledges people’s bowels void when they die ||
Can confirm am real
What’s the first one?
The Venture Bros.
I just took a peek into the first ASOIAF book and learned Daenerys’ nickname is Dany
Well that makes it easier to talk about her in messages 😂
GoT s2e2 || Also I wonder if the books go into Dany’s psychology. I don’t get why she grieved for Drogo despite him being her rapist||
your zooming, any predictions so far about the future or what happens next ?
also in reply to your question, because thats a realistic thing that happens irl
Quick pivot, just learned || the Night King is an original character that appears in season 4… i thought season 4 was supposed to be a faithful adaptation of storm of swords ||
|| So when the heck am I supposed to stop watching the show for an adaptation of the books? Btw I haven’t read the books yet ||
Hmmm nothing comes to mind yet, I’ll tag you when it happens
i think around seaosn 2 i was deep in predictions
since i haddent read the books yet
GoT s2e2 || I have never seen a character simultaneously humanize and dehumanize someone else. It’s terrifying. Littlefinger is terrifying ||
|| don’t stop watching the show. Good adaptation changes things to fit the medium. You watch the show because it is largely an excellent show. You read the books because they are largely excellent books. And you get to experience new and different things in each || thrones adaptation general
dont even listen to anything you learn online
ppl are VERY jaded about the show
GoT s2e2 || Holy hell even Tyrion is competent and terrifying?! He just sent Lord Janos to his death. Why is everyone on Westeros so backstabby? 😟||
watch the show all the way through
GoT s2e2 ||legit because we were so backstabby back in the war of the roses times, humans be stabbing each other in the back much lots||
Today is the Ides of March
I’ll try. What do you think of the show?
i loved the show all most all the way through
there are some issues when they go beyond the books and when they wrapped it up imo one or two seasons early but nothing but good htings to say before that point
really good adaptiation before it got bad and imo thats only once like i said they got beyond the books and even that wasnt too bad untill the last season or two
this summs it up nicely
Beware
-# honestly I think a lot of problems with the end of the show was that they were tired of making the show
i dont really know or care, i just know that the last season mega bad and they needed at least a season or two more to do it justice and to not have both season 7 and 8 be low on the epp count
Those season 7 scores are delusional
https://seriesgraph.com/show/1399-game-of-thrones is there a better site to be looking at
7 was fine. Honestly the wheels don’t come off until || season 8 episode 3-4 || all
The wheels were wobbling for at least two seasons before they actually came off though
6 is controversial
To who?
5 is the last universally regarded Good Season
It literally won the Emmy for best drama series in season 6
i enjoyed and thought 7 was pretty good at the time
and still do
7 isnt as bad as everyone makes it out to be
To be clear I don't dislike 6
I think 6 is fine but you can see some of the faults that would become fissures later on
I'm not terribly minded to give "won an Emmy" a ton of weight because that was the era when it was kind of everywhere but also before it openly started being bad
GRRM pushed heavily for 13 seasons, that was his ideal number
Which does kind of say a lot about how much his last two books have to do
I wasn't ever clear if that was 13 full size seasons or if that was reactionary to the truncated seasons they started doing
i think with were we were by the end of season 6 that 10 seasons would have been good
Honestly if they had done full seasons for 7 and 8 they’re probably fine
that too
(Assuming D&D aren’t mailing it in)
The big complaint about 7 at the time was || people on the internet being mad about “teleporting”|| which like… I never really understood.
You can literally look at graphs of reception of each episode and the drop is ||8-3|| all
See that’s why I’m hesitant to go beyond season 4. I wanna watch shows that get better, not get worse
nah nah nah, show good dont let the final season ending poorly keep you down
like jm said it raelly and truly only goes off the rails in the final few epps
The worse for later game of thrones is still better than like 95% of tv shows

Okay I’ll trust your word and watch the whole thing. Maybe it’s better if I view the show as its own thing rather than an adaptation
But I’m reading the books afterwards
GoT s2e2 || Geez now we got the Greyjoys and Stannis Baratheon in the mix. Everyone’s fighting for the Iron Throne and control over who sits on it. Though I’m not sure if Dany wants it, and Jon will probably be against the white walkers||
Like if you were to stop after 4 you’d be missing…. Like maybe 5 of the best television episodes ever. And like 20+ incredible ones after
GoT all not safe for Ale || Does Dany not talk about taking back the iron throne by that point? ||
I’ll trust your word too
And I ain’t a quitter. I try to finish whatever media I start
I personally think it has some good scenes and cathartic scenes after s4 too, but the quality drops severely
I’m getting the vibe there’s a quality drop after s4, but it still contains some of the best TV ever
I think its an entirely reasonable criticism. The passage of time and the distance between characters and events is something that Game of Thrones regularly interacts with. For distances that might have been a half-season arc to suddenly be inconsequential felt jarring
For me I think it was worth it cuz I binged the whole thing in 5 days. But for watching over extended time, Idk if it would be good or bad
Pretty much everything about the show except the writing stays overall good throughout, the writing just gets notably bad.
To be fair, it is a problem GRRM set up and that he doesn't exactly have great answers for
Eh. Lighting and scene composition also experience noticeable drop
I mean, yes and no. There's stuff like the coffee cup that felt like there was a general lack of quality control
Yeah the lighting too
Started watching Thursday. Already on s2
Dispirited actors give worse performances too and some of them were given really nothing to work with unfortunately
I had a goal of catching up to final season 3rd ep so I just binged non stop
Allow me to clarify: Overall pretty good, but not necessarily as good as it was earlier.
also being in HS without any responsibilities helped
Definitely got the impression that most of the cast and crew were pretty tired by the end of it from interviews and such though, for sure.
I was in the Navy when the last season was about to air and I'm pretty convinced there was a couple of months were at least one person was watching Game of Thrones on the ship at any given point in time
D&D sure were. I get the impression from the cast more that they were upset that they were being unceremoniously dropped because the showrunners were bored and wanted to do a Star War
That was the impression I had at the time it ended, but a lot afterward seemed to indicate a lot of other people were pretty exhausted too. Going many more seasons probably wasn't realistic regardless of whether D&D were interested in doing that.
I think they wanted to do their confederacy alt history show
They had several irons in the fire and only the Three Body Problem one panned out
They should’ve just left
Star Wars was the highest profile of them and I think Disney was pretty unguarded about pointing at how GoT ended for shredding the deal, however
So it tends to be the one that sticks in memory for me
I’m still pissed at how stupid the whole thing was
As I recall that was before Disney cancelling and/or repurposing Star Wars projects was relatively commonplace as well
I think timeline wise Star Wars was announced midway through filming on 8. But they announced shortened 7 and 8 in like 2016
What’s funny is they still took two, years between 7 and 8
Hmmmm this sent me down a rabbit hole about hbo’s current programming and uh wow that cupboard is a bit empty
Its like four boxes of Game of Thronesios and two boxes of Pitt Flakes
They also forgot to buy milk so they're eating it dry
GoT s2e3 || If anything happens to Jon or Sam, I’m killing everyone in Westeros and then myself ||
Genuinely concerning that their non-Pitt dramas are not original content.
|| They’re some of the few good people in this crapsack world ||
No wonder they’re throwing all this money at Harry Potter
I guess white lotus counts but that show takes as long as a game of thrones show to make
I don't like the discourse I'm already seeing about chalamet's Oscar loss
He didn't lose it because of the opera/ballet comments, he just wasn't chosen
He just wasn't the best actor there
Honestly, I think people get too worked up about awards in general tbh.
Its ok if your opinion doesnt align with the judges opinion
Doesn't mean there was some injustice
My parents didnt rock with Pedro's fit last night and im like "guys, It was nice"
-# I did not mention Pedro Pascal was fine af
The os and the car
Buffy reboot cancelled 😔
finished watching Shogun last night and I have a question for people [Shogun All] ||do you think that Toranaga told Maria that she had to die in Osaka? I feel like her initial plan was for her to kill herself but Ochiba prevented that by getting Ischido to give out the permits. Then Ischido was an idiot and sent in ninjas and Maria saw the opportunity to die anyway. I think that Toranaga knew that her dying was the best way to drive a wedge between Ochiba and Ischido. ||
Overall I really liked the show
The writing, characters, and production design was all top notch
Probably for the best. They’ve run out of new ways to punish her for being sexually active
It’s so good.
I should rewatch it
Shogun all ||I don't remember enough. Didn't Toronaga say he would grant her wish (to die)?||
||yes but it was ambiguous as to whether it would be a reward for her bringing back his wife and concubine or in some other way ||
Awards are really big markers on people's careers and can help a lot with them getting work going forward, so at least within the industry there is reason to be concerned, especially when awards panels have a history of kinda openly take bribes.
Whether or not there was injustice kinda depends on your scope. It's really easy to look at one specific Academy Awards list and not see much, but patterns start to emerge when you look through all of the history.
At the risk of getting too political, One Battle After Another is the latest of a series of academy award winners that is "about race and political tensions" that primarily stars and was directed by white men. That doesn't mean it was a bad movie or didn't deserve to win, but when the same thing happens again and again it's worth calling out.
But also, like I said earlier, Sinners got nominated for more Academy Awards than any other movie in history, which is it's own rather unique kind of prestige and shows that the way the people on the inside think about the awards is changing for the better
lol
also nice he won
First Naruto fan to win Best Actor in Oscars huh
we moving uppp
Sucks that the guy who played Stack was the only one who got to go to celebrate, guess the guy who played Smoke was busy
if he’s even writing them
Kpop DH winning over Sinner's music
, I don't really look at the Oscars but this struck a nerve in me I wont lie
Sinners won Best Original Score
Absolutely agree
#1364954411582885899 message
I'm happy to see an animated movie get major recognition and all that, but "I Lied To You" removes my soul from my body every time I listen to it
golden had the pop appeal
I think the cinematography goes a long way in the I Lied to You scene (which Sinners also won for, deservedly). I rewatched the oscars performance a couple times because it was such brilliant staging/camerawork to replicate that sequence irl
I think purely as a song golden probably gets the edge for me
My mom said it would win for that reason, but she called it "pop mess" 😭
I think lie to you works so well bc the scene it is in goes hard
Also
Sinners all ||he really kept performing after that lmao||
so Sinners is good?
I really gotta watch that
Best movie ever
Oh yeah this is EXTRA crappy https://x.com/geoffkeighley/status/2033602235004031062?s=20
The Oscars’ response?
AMPAS/Oscar CEO Bill Kramer apparently blocked me on Instagram last night after seeing my post expressing disappointment about the broadcast’s In Memoriam omission of my father.
You truly can’t make this stuff up.
Instead of an apology you block him?
Crazy
I enjoyed it, def worth a watch
You know what would be funny? If the E33 movie actually releases one day and sweeps the Oscars
I genuinely don't see how an E33 movie works without ||making up a whole new ending||
To me a huge part of the game's quality hinges on the fact that ||there are two thematically distinct endings and you can prefer one over the other based on your opinions and experience||
||Canonising any one of the endings would completely take away from that||
For as much as I think Geoff's dad probably did deserve a spot in the In Memoriam I also think publicly beefing about it is in as bad or worse taste
It got snubbed at the Grammys, is fantasy, and is based off a video game. I don't think there's a world where it gets significant Academy attention
Could be the best movie ever made
Don't think it'd matter
Oh I mean sure, I just said it’d be funny
Why do the Oscars hate speculative fiction so much
Ryan Coogler with a great analogy here no spoilers for Sinners but language warning. Looking forward to what he does next.
||https://www.instagram.com/reel/DV6xTdijiWd/||
In conversation with actor Ben Stiller, SINNERS Director/Writer/Producer Ryan Coogler offers an unexpected yet revealing metaphor, comparing the film’s intricate, interwoven themes to the layers of a croissant, meticulously shaped to create depth, texture, and resonance. The layers of which are hailed by The Wrap as a “gigantic cinema, liter...
19004
Because they seek "art" not entertainment....
Really because they don't actually watch much of them so they vote for their friends and the ones that had the best PR.
Everyone knows things with swords and spaceships can't be cerebral or make you feel things. 🙄
They also regularly snub horror outside of the technical awards
Toni Collette was robbed for best actress for Hereditary
They didn’t even nominate her
Love a good croissant
Maybe they wanted to wait until they could print the number of academy awards won on the cover
likely staggering it
Lmao
But like
Does Criterion do that?
Aren't they more artsy than that
Unironically a lot of people think exactly that. Also animation is for kids. Also video games are for kids or immature men and cannot be art.
It's fantastic.
Better than Shrek?
E33 all, Clue movie ||Just do what the Clue movie did! Each viewing gets one of a variety of endings, and decline to declare any of them "Official"!||
These people need to be locked in a room with the Outer Wilds for a weekend.
Chair Company on HBO is great!
Just finished it and highly recommend it
Reminds me a lot of David Lynch films and shows, but much easier to follow
Great show
Is that really what they're calling the movie?
Not my favourite Tim Robinson but has some of his funniest bits
there was no way they'd call it dune messaiah or something after they called the first sequel Dune Part Two
I feel like there's a very good chance that the Mistborn movies get numbered as well and we'd be luck to get subtitles for them
DLSS on
Based
We’re just fully in the generation of Oscar winners who grew up watching anime
Heading out to go see PHM in IMAX
I can’t confidently say whether I’ve seen a movie in IMAX before tbh. Probably have when I was a lot younger
my husband's thinking about going up to Portland to see PHM in 70mm at the Hollywood Theatre, but that depends on if we can find someone to hang out with the 3 year old
I don't know that I've seen anything in 70 mm? though this is reminding me I never watched the "Ryan Coogler talks aspect ratio" video that kept getting recommended in my youtube feed
Dang I managed to get what seems to be a pretty good seat for PHM right in the center of the theater
Oh dang this theater doesn’t have reclining seats. Wild
That isnt standard??? 😵💫
No wonder so many tickets were available here
I thought it was these days
$27 for a ticket by the way with no reclining seats
Highway robbery
i also got a pretty good seat
we go in on thursday at 7pm
Meanwhile the local theater I typically go to has the best popcorn and food of any theater I’ve been to, has $7 Tuesdays, has fantastic drinks, reclining seats and all that.
Just no IMAX there. Pretty sure they use some newer Samsung Onyx screens?
But I figured I’d do IMAX this time
Well guess it’s time
Preview time at least
👀👀👀
what's the LA stand for
These first look character images for dune look so good
GoT s2e3 || Tyrion is playing Varys, Littlefinger, and one other council members for fiddles 👀||
some of the hottest busty babes of all time
also it has women
OPLA S2E3 || @novel bear zoro mihawk ptsd flashbacks works really well ||
||it's not ptsd it's the swordsman grindset||
character development
OPLA ||she will love Zoro ||
||I am bummed that we don’t get Zoro’s cool speech “I’LL TAKE YOU ON BAROQUE WORKS” but someone in the writer’s room loves Zoro ||
||i think the show overall has done a really good job of communicating that zoro luffy and sanji are far stronger than normal humans, and so zoro killing 100 dudes at once makes a surprising amount of sense logistically. he is just faster than everyone else. i love that when he clashes with someone, the other person gets visibly knocked back||
||honestly i think zoro's dialogue is consistently the worst in the show||
||also the direction is a misfire for me||
||i wish he was a bit more energetic||
||Mackenyu is doing better with it in S2 but yeah it’s a writing thing||
||Yeah the show seems to struggle with how Zoro swings between stoic and manic||
OPLA S2 and OP ||Zoro should be more epic and have his badass speeches and yell his moves||
||ONIGIRI||
||manga zoro is able to smile when he sees a challenge in a way that doesn't feel psychotic, just ambitious. live action zoro is just full stoic when it's time to fight.||
||and yeah I REALLY miss the “I count a hundred of you…” because that is such a cool Zoro moment and he’s arrogant and bloodthirsty and he grins. ||
OPLA ||i also think sanji's relationship with women hasnt translated at all, and makes some scenes come off far differently than i think they were intended||
||I feel they're deliberately trying to tone him down but idk||
GoT s2e3 || I love that everyone in this show is competent or dangerous in their own right ||
OPLA + manga ||I mostly like Zoro more this season because he is funnier but the writers still don’t get how his arrogance and love of combat fuel him||
GoT s2e3 || yeah like sometimes i love when a story only exists because everyone involved is so dumb that it just falls into place. But hyper competence is also fun at times. I will say that they all have failings and shortsightedness which makes them more realistic imo||
opla s2 ||they upped zoro's dorkiness quotient this season which is great, that feels like it's getting closer in line with the og||
OPLA ||the show overall has done a great job of making at least lateral moves. i think we just have an inferior zoro compared to manga or anime||
OPLA+OP All ||My favorite hilarious random nitpick i saw on Twitter was someone complaining they had Sanji wear a ring on his ring finger when in the manga/anime he was always deliberately never shown with a ring on that finger||
||i would have preferred if they replaced his personality instead of just numbing it||
||yeah he just needs more stupid arrogance. Like not yelling his moves is such a loss. He doesn’t get his cool one liners ||
||Like, if I thought the LA was gonna get to Pudding then maybe id care but it's so funny||
||i can live without those; it's just different from the manga, and there are differences in all the strawhats from the manga||
Speaking of One Piece
The channel Blind Wave has been reacting to the dub, and the channel Normies x Anime have been reacting to the sub, and it's been really fun watching them
i like badd medicine's reactions to one piece, they're fun 😊
Opla s2||the actor needs to switch up, him going back to his regular zero inflection after he got rid of the green paint which made him laugh etc, was so jarring it gave me whiplash.
Feels like he's sleepwalking through the role||
||i don't think it's on him and i don't dislike the performance, i'm not the one for this argument||

Are they actually just calling it Dune Part 3 though?
yes
i like dune messiah as well
Definitely seems like they're going for a darker vibe
Dune Messiah Book ||Id hope so
||
DM Book ||I expect they are going to obliterate Pauls eyes and not just leave it like this, they better anyway||
Damn everybody except not-Sting has stuff on their face.
ill have to try and find a time to check them out
It's probably a consistency thing, my guess.
DM Book ||Also no idea why Princess Irulan has that on her face||
DM book ||from that and the Irulan one, I'm thinking maybe the two took some damage from some other incident, and the blinding will come later. Unless they've shifted the timeline and changed the nature of that moment to also involve Irulan...?||
is there any word on them adapting the books post messiah
Denis is stopping after this one, I expect theyll try
I am fascinated by them trying to do GEoD
I think it will be a much hated film, even if its a good film
DM Book ||I just straight up have no clue what the Irulan one could possibly be portraying 😂 ||
But also note it says the epic conclusion on the posters sooo... 🤷
I heard somewhere that they might pull some elements of book 3 into this one but I dont know how legit that was
it will be interesting how much they pull in
GoT s2e3 || Another good man dies. RIP Yoren 😔||
|| Absolute unit of a man too||

|| Which part of Westeros is Dany located?||
||She’s on a different continent off to the east||
|| Same question for the Greyjoys, Stannis, and Renly ||
@red nacelle here's a decent map
But it is almost literally just an earth analogue
||Renly is in the southeast, greyjoys on islands to the west, Stannis on island to the east (Dragonstone)||
These are some of the key places around the time of the story you are at
There we go found the map I was looking for
GoT Season 2 episode 4.
GoT s2e4 || Arya’s essentially at a concentration camp, right? ||
|| GOOD LORD?! WHAT IS THAT?! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT THING?! ||
Your gonna need to be more specific
|| Sorry lol. A shadow came out of the red woman’s womb ||
That was a bit nuts yes agreed
Oh that lmao
Oh right
They gave out pins at the end
So I’d say PHM was good as far as adaptations go. They did a good job. I do think the book is WAY better, but I enjoyed the movie and I don’t really have gripes or anything that upset me. I think it respected the source material well and the changes they made + what they focused on do make sense
It does kinda reinforce my whole “I wish we weren’t getting Cosmere adaptations” feelings though
Like even a fantastic adaptation is never going to come even remotely close to the books
At least when you’re talking about films
TV shows at least have more breathing room
xDD
OP All (a LA casting joke) ||https://twitter.com/strawhats/status/2033620829162881053?t=U4ie0wAH9Nkqb9UL3AGSkQ&s=19 ||
Oooo that is cool.
IMAX was cool and all but I think it’s not something I actively notice when watching. At first during previews and stuff I was like huh this does look quite good. And the movie did look very nice visually. But I don’t know that it’s a big enough deal for me to be paying so much more to see a movie
Seeing a movie again without reclining seats though was ROUGH lmfao. Wow what a difference that makes
Yeah it’s definitely neat! I’m not much of a pin guy but I do like that it’s Amaze Amaze Amaze. Very cute
I like the amc Dolby theaters more than the imax ones. Big screen, really good sound, reclining seats.
If I can get to a real imax theater that's worth the two hour drive and lower tier seat, but certainly not for every movie
PHM book and movie spoilers || Definitely saw the movie focus heavily on character and the relationship between Grace and Rocky. I do think it was the right call for the movie and everything worked.
Obviously the book just gives you so much more of everything. And the science in the book is fun ||
I can’t wait to see PHM this Saturday, didn’t get IMAX but it is a Dolby Atmos theater with recliners. But this is probably my most anticipated movie of the year.
My wife hasn't been convinced to read the book until she saw the movie trailers and now she worries it's to late to do so before the movie, what are your thoughts on someone seeing the movie first?
That’s fair. My typical local theater does Dolby atmos showings but not IMAX.
Honestly I think it’s hard for me to really compare without seeing a movie each way. But I’m plenty happy just seeing movies at the local theater atmos or not and IMAX isn’t such a big step up for me that I think I’d choose it again
I mean it depends on the person. I think seeing the movie before the book will lead to greater enjoyment of the movie because the book is just imo superior
But I can’t say if seeing the movie first would lessen the book experience in any way. I don’t think it would though
Best movie experience I ever had was Dune in 3D because the main 3d effect was making spice float around the theater.
Seeing Dune 2 in Imax was really good for the scene where ||Paul rode a worm for the first time||
I think every other movie I've seen has been perfectly fine in whatever theater
Solid, that means I can drag her to see it with me
The movie is definitely very well done. Like I can’t really find argument or fault with the way they adapted it
Which is probably the most positive thing I will ever say about a film adaptation haha
I don’t think I’ll ever see a film adaptation for a book I’ve read and think the book isn’t just better
That's good. There were enough little things with The Martian adaptation that I didn't care for that it kinda ruins the movie for me, so I'm hopeful that I'll like this one. I really really liked the book
The Martian has the benefit that I can read it in a day, so I'm fine with the movie being fine
Forrest Gump is the only one that I can think of
Ahhh gotcha yeah I would say that the movie isn’t 1:1 the book. But it’s faithful to it and they obviously have to make some changes and condense things. But I think the way they chose to do so makes complete sense imo
I do think the Eragon TV show has the chance to be much better than the book
jurassic park is a well known one
all the harry potter movies tbh
That makes sense.
For the Martian it's not that they changed things, it's the way they changed things. Some of the set design was different in a weird way but they still kept in parts from the book that didn't make sense with the new setup, some of the jokes didn't really land because they took out certain segments, and the entire climax sequence was extremely frustrating to me with the specific way it was different
starship troopers is another canonical example
I love both the book and the movie version. They're in a strange category for me because I don't even think of the movie as an adaptation. It's just a really good movie that happens to tell the same story as a really good book
Godfather as well
I just read that the Dune Three trailer is coming out tomorrow, someone please tag me when it drops
lotr would be better for me
naw i prefer the book both are just different
Starship Troopers is such a funny example cause it's so fundamentally opposed to the themes of its source material
thats not uncommon in adaptations for it to be a commentrary on an original work
You see it all the time but just normally in media that has become a social icon that people are aware that its parodying or in response to the origonally
I think it’s just hard for me to separate the book from the movie typically
No country for old men
Haven’t read Jurassic park. Will never touch anything in the HP IP again
I could give LoTR another watch now that I’ve read the first book
I don’t think I’ve seen No country for old men and I definitely haven’t read it. Didn’t know that one was a book
Also didn’t know Godfather was an adaptation
I thought the mockingjay movies were better than the book, the book was too boring for me to even finish and the movies weren't
I was going to mention hunger games but i havent read the books in so long
Id say the Princess Bride is better than the book
@molten jetty do you watch k dramas
GoT s2e5 || The shadow thing killed Renly 😟||
|| All of Renly’s bannermen are already on Stannis’ side? I see loyalty doesn’t exist in this world 😂||
Not really
I’m open to watching anything tho
||I was rooting for Renly||
|| Saame smh ||
i just started the business proposal bc i bought netflix for one piece
you should watch it
you would call the two main guys twinks and it would make me angry
GoT s2e5 || I feel like Catelyn’s scenes with her family are the ones that make me tear up. Though there’s nothing so far that has me wailing ||
|| Dany’s rape scenes made me tear up too, and when Sansa was hurt under Joffrey’s orders ||
||Stannis was the rightful King, but Renly would have been the better one||
||church of the 7 propoganda||
GoT S2E5 ||yeah and Renly would’ve figured out the heir situation. Loras and Margaery were willing. Tbh that would have been his biggest hindrance. He was such an inspirational leader, willing to work with people smarter than him. Plus he put a woman on his rainbow guard. Based. ||
GoT general ||I also just love the Tyrells as a House||
Same
||I do think Stannis would have been a fair king, just not a great one||
||Get him away from Melisandre at least||
whaaaa I am so jealous!!! We got a poster but it was just a print of the movie poster
We got free popcorn and candy
sounds like heresy
Got all||How many more shadows babies must a woman make to prove the supremacy of her god||
||At least 7||
PHM book to Movie comparison with movie spoilers ||I think it was a really good adaptation and I am very happy with it. The book is indeed better though, because the movie cut quite a lot of the science-ing. For example I didn't like how the first taumeoba scare and the breeding program were removed/heavily abbreviated. That being said, they got Rocky so incredibly right, he and his relationship with Grace were literally perfect, and that was the most important thing to get right. Also, visually its just a very pretty movie from start to finish||
so tldr; is it a perfect adaptation? No, but its hard to ask for much better I think
||One thing I missed is the efforts to warm the Earth. I felt like it really added to the desperation in the book||
ASOIAF general ||I always wondered what gods actually existed in the world of ASOIAF because the Red God clearly has something and so do the Old Gods. ||
||All of them||
This might be crazy to say becasue the movie was already like 2:38 (I think) but I wish it was like 10 minutes longer? lol
maybe I am in the minority here, but I don't care that much how long a movie is as long as every second is intentional and adds something meaningful to the story, you know?
Same
I would gladly watch a 3.5 hour movie as long as the plot justifies it and the pacing is good
Bring back intermissions

|| My mind is fried by the many plots and overlooked the fact that was magic 😂||
|| Now I gotta know… what’s the source of that magic and who tf is that red haired woman?||
|| Does it come from the various gods? 🤔||
||Shes a priestess of the Red God||
The ship design of the Serenity is really cool.
All the character posters for Dune Part Three
As someone who only read the first book, I am unbelievably excited to watch the conclusion to this story with no idea where it goes
Like, Dune Books ||I know something something jihad that burns the galaxy but like... I have no idea of the details||
I’m deeply intrigued because some of the set up just isn’t there yet and characters are simply in different places
They are gonna have to do some creative liberties and I have no idea what those will be
Yeah I'm very curious to see what the adaptation of Messiah ends up looking like. It has to be pretty different in some aspects, and I think I'll be glad for it.
Like the big one is I have no idea what they are gonna do with chani both becuase the actress is so popular that she’s certainly getting a larger role and becuase she’s in a very very different place
Dune general || Mmm and she's basically a completely different character. Mostly by virtue of actually having character in the films. ||
Pretty much my thoughts yeah. Like they knew what to cut and what to keep to do the story right given their constraints. And it was still nearly 3 hours
Probably the best film adaptation I’ve seen for a book I’ve read
Dune Three movie Speculation and book spoilers ||One of my guesses is that she's already pregnant||
Dune 3 + Dune Messiah ||and misscarries I guess?||
||No, the idea is that Dune Messiah is compressed to 9 months. I'm not really sure how well that would work, but it's possible||
||So do you mean already pregnant at the start of the adapted events of Dune Messiah? Or pregnant at the end of Dune 2?||
||because Alia is being played by Anya Taylor Joy so youd expect 18 years to have passed at least||
||I think I took what you said as, at the end of the dune 2 film||
||because in general idk what theyre going to do to bridge chani at the end of 2 to the start of dune messiah||
Dune books and movies spoilers ||Pregnant at the end of Dune 2, since she left Paul at the end of that movie. Really I had this thought when Dune 2 came out, so Anya Taylor Joy playing an adult Alia wasn't really a factor at the time. Yes she was in a vision in the movie, but there were already changes with how she was being portrayed.||
||It's been a minute since I've read Messiah, I don't know if I've re-read it since Part 2 came out. I know that for the most part her role was "be Paul's concubine and take contraceptives" so I'm eager to see what Denis does with her. I think the changes to her character have been among the best improvements to the story||
Saw Sinners again
It still hits

tbf its a reference to a comic cover
But also im not confident
Terrible color palette, ripping off an iconic image for mo reason, no character shining through. Tough look.
Well yeah
I knew that
Don’t know why they didn’t stick with the gold color palette from the BTS stuff
im not that confident
Should have been this
because i havent been the biggest fan of MCU recently
I like how the comic cover has a sense of composition; he isn't exactly centered, and he fills the frame well. Meanwhile the movie just plops him in the center of the frame. Hideous.
We should talk about the Dune trailer instead
NWH was a pretty bad movie but it was really fun to watch the first time
Dune messiah ||Was really worried we wouldn’t get Edric but man, so hyped now||
that opening weekend theater experience when ||andrew garfield and tobeys spiderman appeared|| was just great

Dune Three Trailer
||Looks like Paul and Chani are back together, I wonder how that happened||
||Also, "How did father handle it?" "Father never started a war." This is gonna be so good||
Looks like Sandgren is doing a great job filling in for greig Fraser
Because its taking an image drawn for a comic cover ratio and putting it in an imax ratio
Because he’s far far from home or something
worst case scenario is spiderman PS4 2 but a movie tbh
This is super cool but not very convenient as a bag
Denis said the score is going to be very different from the first two movies and Zimmer is cooking with that trailer music
Think I'm gonna watch this again, it's been a hot minute since I've seen it
the quick costuem reveal thats all we had for a while was alright
but im not that confident
mm I didn't reread Messiah last time but I mostly do not remember what happens in that book
dune books ||I assume we'll see a Navigator in the film, right? kind of hard to avoid and I'm so curious what Denis' take on them will be||
Dune trailer
||Herbert: The navigators look all kinds of messed up. The spice has mutated their bodies. They're no longer recognizable as human.
Denis: So... floating box?||
dune 3 trailer ||well... they haven't open the coffin yet so they could still be very weird inside||
||I miss the days of spoof movies because it could be a perfect gag in one of those for a character to go, "here comes a navigator, though I warn you it's the most hideous creature you'll ever see" and then another character opens the coffin and it's a mirror||
I have cofnidence in the action choreography at least
not really the writing
Fire trailer, Dune Messiah book ||seems to show almost nothing from the book lol, maybe Chani getting ready to go on a worm is from basically the end though||
|| two goats in one image ||
Dune 3 ||I wonder if theyll half and half it between things before the book or if the bits before will end up being quite short||
I don't follow
||they look to be showing bits and pieces of the war and the build up to the events of dune messiah, which isnt in the book at all||
it really is dune part 3 because if I recall it's like [general dune thesis imo for Dune + Dune Messiah] ||"no wait, the ending of dune is not necessarily a good thing"||
you messed up spoilers
Dune messiah/dune part 3 || I mean, it's obvious it's not a good thing, but people didn't understand it so he had to go write another book ||
mmm i wasn't sure if thematics was something to spoiler but I will concede the choice
dune part 3 || I mean, it would atleast spoil the direction book 1/movie 2 would go ||
which is critical part of the experience imo
DM ||like it's an answer to the "ugh paul is a white savior" like yes, actually it's bad that he's leading them on jihad||
DM/dune movie 3 || I like the way he's approaching it. More focus on Paul as it's Paul's arc trilogy rather than Dune trilogy ||
Sad part is that Doomsday is gonna make more money sadly
Love how Giger some of the designs are
One of my problems with the Dune: Part Two movie is that it diverges from the book so far that I can't tell how they'll be able to effectively translate Dune; Messiah into film form because of how different the movie's ending is. I'm skeptical of how they'll be able to pull it off, if they do at all. At this point, it almost looks like Part Three will be a large-scale fanfiction filling in the blanks between books one and two, because how are they going to adapt book two at this point.
We'll see. I hope it will be good, but I was kind of disappointed by Dune; Part Two diverging as far from the source material as it did.
Oh yeah I saw the other day that Ready or Not 2 comes out this week!?
Please be good
Shoutout to Kathryn Newton for being the only supernatural alum to pivot being on that show into a film career
Nah we're getting another Barbenheimer.
Avengers: Dunesday
Duncsday
Releasing both movies on the same day is certainly one of the choices of all time.
I doubt this will be the end of Dune for Warner Brothers even with the competition, though. I'm really hoping we get Children and God Emporer, but really I just love seeing this universe portrayed
I remember liking the SyFy miniseries for Children with James McAvoy
last I saw they are doing Dune Part 4 but Villeneuve isn't doing it
What?
There were a lot of differences. Personally I thought they made the movie stronger than if they had been faithful.
||Stuff like cutting the time-skip and having Chani be a voice against Paul. And having the emporer be Christopher Walkin instead of not Christopher Walken||
I wouldn't be surprised, but I'm not gonna hold my breath. Especially with all of the merger stuff, who knows what plans will or won't get scrapped
I am very excited. I need to rewatch the first two
Brian K. Vaughan??
THE Brian K. Vaughan??
Dune 2/Dune Messiah ||Yeah I mean the major major difference for Dune to Messiah is Chani going off on her own, but its not particularly inconceivable that they get back together in 18+ years||
Who's that?
Amazing comic writer
He’s responsible for some of the greatest indie comics of all time
I don't really see them dropping a successful franchise because of the merger
WHo?
Saga is very good
I just cant see them doing a dune 5, despite how much I want them to
Dune 4 maybe
unfortunately I think this is the closest we'll get to a saga movie though, it's totally unfilmable
||My understanding is this isn’t true by the way. || dune messiah
Holding out hope for an animated adaptation some day
Huh I wonder if he got into screenplay writing because of that Y The Last Man adaptation that cratered
I was so hype for it and it was actually okay (not great) but it was poorly advertised, on a bad channel, and released in 2021
no he did screenwriting for another adaptation of his before that
The Yorick casting was spot on
I never read Paper Girls. Funny enough, my best friends dad got me into Dune and his mom has said several times that Paper Girls is the only comic she's ever enjoyed
Jon Spaihts bravo
So it wasn't "Alas, poor Yorick" this time?
There are several jokes about it in the comic, yeah
The character's father is an English professor and had a fixation with Shakespeare so Yorick and his sister Hero are named after more obscure Shakespeare characters
I never thought that my thoughts on social media would be summed up in a single post but here we are https://x.com/therightram/status/2033923894663430522?s=20
Watching the film discussion on twitter only cements the idea that social media discourse is the bane of having anything truly thoughtful or interesting to say/discuss about art.
I've never seen more reductive takes in my lifetime.
Like to talk movies? Go call a friend.
I know nothing about this character and yet I'm right on the money? Nice.
Then again, I've never heard the name in any other context.
Sigh... okay fine, Dune; Part Three looks epic
I just saw the trailer
Dune Messiah ||I'm assuming Robert Pattinson's character is Scytale? That's the vibe I'm getting.||
||Right on. Nooice.||
The sound for that trailer was immaculate. I can always count on these Dune movies to have incredible music and sound design.
||need them to release the soundtrack with the chant so I can listen to it more||

GoT s2e5 || I just remembered a character mentioned the giants are gone. I think it was the old man telling Bran about magic. I’m really curious about what happened to magic in this world||
|| Btw I have a theory that the man Arya saved, and now is offering to kill on her behalf, is a member of this Brotherhood mentioned during torture ||
Fun fact. || The review I saw that led to my gf and I seeing it on release was one where the guy didn’t want to spoil that twist for people who hadn’t seen the trailers so he decided he’d refer to it as a marshmallow movie throughout the review. So each time he said “marshmallows” my gf and I were just so curious what the “marshmallows” would be ||
GoT s2e5 || Brienne just swore fealty to Catelyn. I’m liking Brienne’s character and her dynamic with Catelyn ||
||After the movie: Now that I think about it, the review mentioned that the marshmallows kept biting people and couldn't have garlic, so I guess I shoulda put it together||
GoT s2e5 || It seems Bran had a dream that predicted the future of Winterfell. I think it was a dream of it being destroyed by a wave. I bet that future will be somehow fulfilled by Dany’s mission to take the Iron Throne ||
|| I have no idea what Tyrion is truly planning, but I’m loving his competence this season ||

|| This is from an earlier episode, but “The queen mustn’t know” is a goated quote ||
The wire s5e8 ||Brilliant episode. Didn't expect Omar to go like that but it's fitting that he went out to a character that he directly inspired.||
||McNulty in the behavioral profile scene is probably the funniest scene in the show too||
||Really like how this show shows the mirrors between the different institutions of Baltimore in some of the scenes. Last season had some cool parallels between the children and the politicians and this season it’s the journalists and the police force||

Sonic 3 + 4 Speculation ||tbh i wish they didnt bring him back i liked his death in 3 and there probabyl adapting heroes where metal is the main villain anyway||
GoT s2e6 || Oh shooot. Littlefinger is in the same room as Tywin and Arya ||
Dune 3 + Messiah book ||from the trailer, I wonder if they're bringing the Messiah plot forward to fit in the war time period? Or maybe this is a misdirect...||

He does a pretty good job as his version of eggman tbh (nto a good job at the character of eggman but i like his version of eggman)
|| Messiah plot is like barely 2 hour length. They would show 1/3 as Dune-Messiah gap and then go to Messiah I think || Same tags

OPLA S2E4 ||really good episode. best usopp showing so far @novel bear. Vivi's actress is killing it. Mr 3's actor is having too much fun. Overall shocked at how well this translated to screen||
||I have my beef with how they handled Usopp but they're doing damage control from S1 and it's one of the better outcomes we could have gotten. Definitely just a really fun arc where every part they bring to life was enjoyable to see.||

Guess who was watching a random youtube video about space fascism yesterday after posting this that just casually dropped Pauls ultimate fate without spoiler warning
Dune ||Iirc it timeskips over alllllll of it||
Oh fun
IMO Dune has a serious timeskip problem
dune ||Even in the first book, there’s a massive timeskip over a bunch of interesting stuff||
Dune ||My gut guess is that was, to some extent, a case of him realising the book was getting too long and just jumping to the conclusion. The quality of the book dips dramatically at about the two thirds mark imo. 😔 ||
Dune Messiah ||Its also stuff we dont really need to see though, Messiah gets the message across perfectly fine||
||Unless youre going into the dune series looking to read a series about on the ground space wars||
dune books ||yeah, the off screen stuff in messiah is off screen for a reason. Messiah is a very tight story, and showing more on screen would only really serve to distract from the book's focus on the aftermath and what Paul and his empire have become
As for the latter third of dune, I think it works there as well to have the timeskip. We see the trajectory of Paul's character arc before that, and when we pick back up after the timeskip the point his character at is exactly where the book showed his character would be. It provides a really good separation as the book shifts PoV from a more true omniscient view of everyone present in a scene and starts pointedly avoiding giving the reader insight into Paul's interior thoughts, a stark contrast to the rest of the book that really emphasizes the way other characters are seeing his transformation. ||
Dune 3 / wotshow ||seeing the buzz cut Paul look immediately makes me think of rand||
While I can understand the disappointment there, I personally don't think it's possible to spoil the experience of reading a Dune book even if you know what happens.
[tagged for reccuring themes throughout every book] ||Every book is about characters seeing their fate and failing to change it. Imo the books "spoil" themselves, but that's kind of the point||
yeah, there's a lot of dramatic irony
Like [Dune 1: First Dune book] ||Book one opens with Baron Harkonen explaining exactly how the Atreides have been set up to be wiped out and then we watch that unfold. Then Paul gets a vision of exactly how he's going to take over the Fremen and spread war across the universe, and then we watch that unfold.||
||Knowing where the story goes absolutely does not ruin the reading experience.||
dune book 1 ||epigraphs also tells you far in advance that yueh is a traitor and that leto dies||
||You know so far in advance that it's almost disarming and remains surprising when it finally happens||
Also, so much happens in the Dune series that it's genuinely hard to stumble into everything from people casually talking about the series. It would be like if you learned before reading the first book that ||Duke Leto gets a fake tooth and tries to poison the Baron||
Sure, you know a thing before reading it, but that's like one of a thousand things going on in that scene alone
yeah
I love these books in part because I don't care about spoilers anymore for anything. If a book can be ruined by simply by knowing what was going to happen it's a bad book. So spoil away

IT LOOKS SO GOOD
Oh looks dope
Oh yeah, previews during PHM the other day:
- He-man actually looked pretty neat and fun
- This sheep detective movie looked cute
- Supergirl unfortunately had a pretty bland and forgettable trailer in that all I remember from it is that there was a trailer with supergirl and her pupper (I’m so sorry Ryan)
- Hunger Games actually didn’t look terrible?
I don’t remember what else was shown
Trailer || Oh Parker looks big upset at the start of this. Did he and MJ break up in the last movie? I haven’t seen it ||
Oh literally question answered in next part of trailer lol
well big spoiler lol
nwh isn't good but you are spoiling yourself
Ehh I don’t really care lol. If I haven’t seen it yet after however many years, it’s fine
I’ll throw it on one day maybe
Dang, nwh is seen as bad in general? Interesting, I actually thought it was one of the better marvel movies myself
NGL, my first thought on seeing the thumbnail was "oh is Sony doing another tie in videogame?"
I enjoyed NWH, the nostalgia bait worked pretty well on me
Ah, gotcha. Fair enough
I didn't like the multiverse one, but I'll probably go see this one just for Jon Bernthal. Loved every minute of him in Daredevil
A big thing to remember with No Way Home is that it was one of the first Blockbusters to come out after covid. There are a lot of moments in the movie that are designed to let the audience cheer, so watching it after the fact it feels like there are just long pauses for no reason.
But it truly was a theater experience like no other. I still like the movie and think that it was good even despite that, but looking back at it most of my enjoyment came from being in the theater with a bunch of people who were just excited to go and see movies again.
So, is it a bad movie? I don't know, maybe. I don't think it's entirely fair to call a movie bad for openly celebrating being able to go to the movies again after years of not being able to
NWH ||I have only seen it once, in theaters, which definitely colors my view of it. I do think that Holland and Defoe have several good scenes. The 3rd act fight is fine which is better than most of the recent MCU movies. The conceite of the movie with the Dr Strange stuff though is really dumb and it definite had too much fan service||
||if they weren't cowards they'd have included Mephisto||
I also loved it a lot
You know how I was kinda effed of Avengers doing a Duology where 1st leaves at a low point and next one resolves it?
Yeah I weirdly NWH with that Structure would have been even better
idk what you mean
That trailer is sick. I wish we got more like that. Almost 0 plot and all hype
Yeah Dune books 1-5 ||Paul can't actually commit to the horrors of the golden path so his whole effort only causes pain and suffering despite his good intentions. The path of violence and subjugation terrifies and paralyzed him till he becomes a burnt out junkie. He knows how to succeed but can't actually do what the visions say he would need to. (Not everyone can be worm)
So they can give all of the framing of plotting and what will happen and the books are about how no one can account for everything because white savior is actually as bad as his evil grandpa because of the decisions he makes.
I do think for the 3rd film they felt they need to show the fighting and terrible outcomes across the galaxy because while it's not shown much on page you also won't have the time to internalize that in the theater without the visual showing.||
Nwh ||see, for me, the redemption aspect with the villains was the main thing I enjoyed about it. Though I will admit the hype played a large role in it too.||
I think you may just be describing the structure that most duologies use. Typically the first one ends in a real low point so that there's tension between releases and then stuff gets resolved by the end of the second one.
That being said, getting tired of certain rhythms is valid criticism when you have a series that's been going on for so long. I spilled a lot of digital ink talking about how every MCU movie followed the structure, "good guy introduced and gets powers, bad guy introduced and gets powers, good guy and bad guy meet, bad guy almost kills good guy, good guy saves the day."
There's really nothing wrong with that structure, that's kind of what action movies always do. I think the MCU was the first time I noticed it simply because there were so many movies so it was easier to get tired of it
It is more like I feel it is a bit too early for Avengers to use the same structure for the current MCU cast as it was for Infinity Duology.
All the specific cast has not fully matured yet
No Way Home and Sam Raimi Spiderman ||One of the things my mom always criticized about the Raimi movies was that "the villains turn into good guys right before they die" so when I saw No Way Home I texted my mom, "hey, you should watch this because it gives an answer to why the villains suddenly turn good right before they die. They were fixed and then dropped back into the final scenes of their movie!"||
In contrast , Spiderman's story had been much more fleshed out and we care for him.
NWH || having two movies where 1 part is about meeting all these new villains and then befriending/reforming them
While the next is about meeting the Peters and then giving him guidance and also the Peters getting some more substantial talk with their respective villains that is just not one or two lines is something that I need||
Currently it was just rushing through a checklist
not to excuse it, but that's because all the early MCU is introductions, right?
Ohh, I see what you mean yeah.
It gets into where I think DC failed. They saw the success of the MCU and tried to replicate it, but they jumped the gun and introduced Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman all in one movie and tried to move imediately into Justice League.
The slow buildup was part of what made the MCU so good. We had like 5 really good movies before Avengers where each hero got their own time in the spotlight
Yeah and I actually like that format.
When you do the introduction of the villain and hero in the story itself you can get a chance to explore their character in more detail.
SM FFH || of course you can also alter it the way FFH did by having the villain origin story happen after the introduction. But personally since Mysterios powers are tech based. We never get a scene of him building his powers because that is something that would be redundant to them.
Meanwhile in old Marvel movies we see a guy and then he somehow interacts with an element that gives him a chance to become villain but before that we get to experience that person not as a villain
S
So we see them with more layers and makes the final fight a bit more meaningful||
Yeah 100%. It's the kinda thing where I watched Iron Man and went, ||"oh no, Tony Stark doesn't have his arc reactor, is he gonna make it? OH DANG HE PULLED THE OLD ONE OUT OF ITS CASE LETS GO!"|| but then I watched Black Panther and went, ||"T'Challa get thrown over the cliff, there's no way he actually died from that I've seen enough of these to know this by now. Oh look, he's still alive. Why are these movies still doing fakeout deaths?"||
|| this is also why I personally never clicked with Iron Man 3 and 2 villains. Even though you can say Iron Man 3 does follow it.
Even Dr. Strange doesn't follow it as we never get an origin for Kaecillius or Dormamu but that didn't matter. ||
It's the kind of criticism that doesn't apply to a movie in particular, but to a series. Black Panther is not by any means worse than Iron Man, but by the point of Black Panther being out I had seen the same thing done a whole bunch before.
I wound up becoming a big defender of the movie for this exact reason. A lot of people were saying similar things to me and using that to say the movie sucks, and I countered every time with, "this movie doesn't suck, this movie is really good. The criticisms you have can apply to any MCU movie, so I'm sure it's just a coincidence that you only apply it to this MCU movie
Dormamu is the first (that I can remember) instance of a different pattern in the MCU that I came to dislike.
All of the strange places look very same-y. Dormamu's realm, the quantum realm, the planet from Guardians 2. Looking at one is interesting, looking at all of them back to back just gets a little old
I won't fault Knowhere as much but yeah Quantum World should definitely have looked very different
Knowhere I thought was distinct, I meant Ego's planet
Cinematography looks great actually, such a massive improvement from the Home trilogy
MCU movies are really good at set designs, but sprawling landscapes are always a struggle for them imo
Wait Ego's planet was definitely not samey to Dark Dimension
Maybe I've gotta go rewatch it
The BND trailer makes many references to the comics
I think it's something that surprised me a lot, they're 1:1
BND trailer ||that looked way better than i thought||
that one shot really is the worst in the trailer
BND leaks ||I am curious how they are even going to tie in the xmen to this||
BND ||Eman Esfandi being MJ’s boyfriend was true lolol||
||Paul enters the MCU!!! ||
||🥰 Paul 🥰 ||
||cosmic is loving this i can just feel it||
BND leaks ||this movie is gonna be cluttered lmao. Scorpion, Tombstone, the Hand, Jean Grey, Punisher, the Hulk… it does feel kinda like a random comic issue with a ton of crossovers. I wonder if they’ll pull it off. At the least I’ll finally be getting my Xmen||
BND ||surely the third spiderman movie with overstuffed villains will be good right guys||
||although i do think the peter-mj-thatOtherGuy emotional core is far stronger than the other movies had||
||ideally the movie is centered on that and the other villains just intersect ||
||but def not lmao||
I think I’ll like BND more than NWH lol
BND Trailer ||It’s ok Peter, you don’t need MJ anyway, I know a certain blonde that you can date 👀 👀||
Poll NWH + BND ||click option 1 if you would have told mj and the other guy immedietely after the events of NWH. 2 if not.||
||Actually I know about two blondes you can date Peter
||
BND ||Paul in the MCU before Harry Osborn||
||I've always wanted one that has a lot of villains just as various adventures along the way, just without trying to develop them all as plotlines which doesn't work imo||
BND Leaks and trailer ||I think that scene in the trailer with the soldiers being possessed is Jeans doing? Although I don’t read enough X-Men to know if she can control somebodies body||
||i think the best version of this film is the main arc being sad peter and his friends and this repeatedly getting interrupted with random one or two scene villain fights||
This was my assumption yeah
That's kinda how I'm feeling about all of the stuff about Avenger's Doomsday as well. ||It seems like there's gonna be a lot happening in a single movie. I'm hopeful, but concerned.||
NWH+BND
||Them splitting up Peter and MJ in the MCU is so, odd to me.
Cause capitalizing on Tom and Zendaya's actual relationship would be the sorta thing id expect theyd want to do for marketing and optics ||
BND Trailer ||Didn’t notice Peter has a flip phone, oh that man is BROKE broke||
I quite like Zandeya's MJ
I can think of a fairly likely reason
I see 3 common reasons.
- Just not liking what's been done with the character.
- Not liking that she's just not the same MJ as comics.
- Racism.
Yeah, I should say that I have very little context around how "true" to the character she is or w/e; I just like the character she is portraying, and the fact that she is MJ is kind of immaterial to me
tbh i dont really like her MJ but also shes a lot better than the tobey era MJ
She’s technically not even Mary Jane Watson, she’s a different character
||Youre so right, but consider: it’s funny to do this after they (possibly) got married in real life||
BND trailer+leaks? ||Huh. Saw a theory they're doing the Man-Spider storyline which will be...interesting||
She's definitely enough of an original character that they could have (and maybe should have) given her a completely new nane
They kind of did, the M stands for Michelle iirc
I've never entirely been clear on what they're trying to do with her as a character
most of the mcu spider-man characters were changed a lot from their comic equivalent as of homecoming
like the guy who is peter's friend in the movies is a friend of miles morales in the comics iirc
That's true but I feel like I'm normally a lot clearer on what they're going for with the MCU versions of the characters than I ever really have been with MJ
mcu spider-man ||I think it's basically the same thing that we see in the Raimi movies: "love interest who provides conflict to peter's dual identity". Her characterization is a bit closer to the comics than Raimi's version was but I think it's a pretty consistent role. Like she's occasionally damesel in distress and at other times makes him have to pick between being a spider-man and going on a date. Classic comic stuff||
I've never entirely been clear on what they're trying to do with her any MCU spider man characters as a character
BND trailer ||oh god they gave him natural webshooters 😭 ||
||MCU Comic synergy if you can hear me, i need your gifts for this one thing MCU comic synergy if you can hear me i need you now||
7/10 trailer
tbh
ill probably see in in theaters but im not too excited
I really liked NWH, so I'm actually excited for this one.
oh wow new Invincible season releases 3 episodes at once, didnt know that, cool
BND trailer @molten jetty ||I found Rogue
||
i really didnt like the previous MCU spiderman movies but this seems to walk back on a lot of my problems with them
Episode 1 of the new JetLag season is out!
Is it I thought just the trailer?
It's out on Nebula
Ah
Time to speedrun a reread of Project Hail Mary before seeing the movie on Friday
Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, and the crew of Serenity just announced a brand-new Firefly animated series in development… set during the time between Firefly and Serenity.
Whether it happens depends on YOU.
The cast has a pilot script. They have showrunners. They have an animation house. They have permissions and blessings from the powers that...
me when i like the 2-3h movie: directors should never have to compromise their vision to appeal to something as fickle as people's "patience". anyone complaining about the movie's length is simply a tiktok-addicted philistine.
me when i don't like the 2-3h movie: once i become god emperor of earth anyone trying to make a movie longer than 90 minutes will be shot.
-# #rina.txt
The funny thing is every movie can be capped at 90 minutes if you simply turn it off
I think being a Lord of the Rings Enjoyer at a young age inoculated me from seeing the clock as a useful metric for evaluating a movie
Runtime doesn't matter its how you use it etc
runtime is also heavily dependent on pacing too
two and a half hour action film is different than a political thriller of the same length
It is, but I also find that my response to pacing is mood and expectations dependent
Which isn't to say there aren't poorly paced movies, that's unarguably true
pacing is an element of story i still dont fully have my head around
people blame pacing a lot when i dont think it is deserved
pacing is a lot more moment to moment than it typically gets credit for, of that i am sure
But sometimes a two and a half hour political thriller doesn't land for me because my expectations are bad or I just wasn't looking for a political thriller right now and then a year and a half later the same movie really does work for me because I have a better idea what I'm getting into
i think with the more extreme forms of art you have a higher chance of just not being in the mood
same with albums too. there are some really slow paced ones i listen to like once a year but when i do they hit
A long [thing you weren't really looking for] often lands much worse than a short [thing you weren't really looking for] because by volume its more of the bad thing
I’m fine with longer movies but can we bring back the intermission with goofy animations looping
where as the ideal 2 hour action film is so cookie cutter i can watch it whenever
like eating burgers and fries
Jack Nicholson walked out on Return of the King's premiere because he said "it ended too many times"
fair and based tbh
Which like sure I can see that, I can also see being really annoyed that this thing you don't care about is still happening, its a long movie
Return of the King also cuts some of the book's endings
I like Return of the King extended edition but it's badly paced
like 50% of the return of the king book is the ending
I haven't seen the theatrical cut in forever
I don't know if I've seen the theatrical cut since the theatrical release
lotr films also have a reputation for being marathons, and people rewatching them want that. on first watch i am sure it is painful
I am also confident that if Jack Nicholson wasn't at the premieres of the first two movies that he didn't watch them at all and if he was he put them out of his mind as soon as he left the theater
Not really his scene
So a what, three hour and change original cut? is gonna be a total slog for him
3hr 21min according to IMDB
Prison sentence if you're not into it
Man, speaking of...in about a month me and another friend are getting a 3rd friend to watch Lotr for the first time
my friend wants to do extended but I'm really uncertain
cause while there are some very important scenes in the extended edition that, imo, really enhance certain characters and plotlines
there are some scenes that imo are just... bad
This makes more sense when you know Tolkien originally wanted the entire trilogy bound in one massive book, but broke it up after finding it too impractical for book manufacturing techniques in his day
