I’m gonna be the only person who hasn’t watched it aren’t I
Don’t worry
I’ll soon be vindicated with the Superman tags we will see next weekend
Every day I check #welcome-and-rules to make sure Feather hasn't added a rule that requires everyone to watch KDH
(not that I would delete it, mind you, I check it out of curiosity)
I’ve been tempted
I don’t know much about KPop
This is a great intro then!
It doesn't matter
You genuinely do not need to know anything about kpop to enjoy this movie. In fact, I think it's really fun for people with no exposure to kpop.
This is not a movie about kpop
I've never listened to kpop until this movie
I still loved it
The kpop is just a flavour for the story
Well, I'm sure there are deeper ways it relates that someone more knowledgeable could point out, but functionally kpop is just the flavour given to the story
I think someone the other day described it as a framing device?
I think people who are actually kpop fans get to appreciate how much the writers did their homework and will feel there's a lot of affectionate representation that also pokes some fun at how intense people can get over idol culture, but that's a subtle undercurrent, not necessary to enjoy the movie as a whole.
Kind of like the Korean American react-watcher I saw who really loved how authentic the side-dishes were on the table in one of the shots. Like, I'd never know that because I'm not Korean, but she did and really loved it.
Oh that's cool
She actually paused to name all of them and talk about her favorites
It was cute
and made me hungry
you should watch it. kpop stinks but i liked the film
So I finished KDH
I know I'm probably about to get dragged
Feather is readying the ban hammer
A SUPERMAN MOVIE THAT FINALLY ISNT AFRAID TO TACKLE TOUGH SUBJECTS
James Gunn you will always be famous
I thought KDH was solid, definitely a great movie, though ultimately I unfortunately found it... overhyped? It executed well on what it aimed to do but with how it was being talked about, particularly the comparisons I saw to the spider-verse movies and the talk of things it did better than those, it created really high expectations that it didn't even come close to meeting. I personally don't think the movie came close to either of the spider-verse movies at all (which I would say are probably amongst my favorite movies).
It had some great moments (|| Free, the initial meeting of Saja Boys with the shirt bursting open, the scene with Rumi's takedown with the demon impersonations of the band, and the ending confrontation in particular were excellent and definitely were standout scenes (the animation and use of color in that ending confrontation was
) || ). The story is one I feel has been beat to death unfortunately, and some of the humor didn't land for me. It was a good dressing for the story it told. Had some good songs (|| Free was imo BY FAR the best of the songs. Takedown and Your Idol are standouts. What It Sounds Like stood out but I need to see how it stands on its own, separated from all of the stellar animation and visuals that accompanied it. ||). Was fun, but I can't help but feel a little disappointed after all of the raving that I've seen for it =/
I feel like I probably would have enjoyed it more if I had just watched it when it came out before all of the hype build-up and before I saw any of the spider-verse comparisons.
Hype is definitely dangerous. I'd agree it was a very typical story, but I think some of the magic for me comes from how well done that story is
KDH || Free was so good though||
That's valid, it is getting a lot of hype. The Spiderverse comparisons are because it's the same studio, not necessarily that they're a 1-1 experience match though. It has more to do with the art-style and the 3D animation incorporating styles of 2D.
I found it a bit underwhelming as well
It does fascinate me which song people think is the best one, because I do feel like everyone has a different favorite, which is fun.
Yeah I remember seeing that article you screenshotted the title of I think that was mentioning all these things spider-verse does better. Most of those points I would disagree with. There's not really anything I can think of off the top of my head that I think KDH does better than spider-verse
Yeah that's definitely how music is haha. I am used to my opinion being... not the most popular consensus
As endnight said, I think that's the danger of hype
Ngl part of me is like dang, I could have been continuing my binge of Project Hail Mary instead and gotten to this later lol
For me, none of the plot was really surprising, but the combination of the tight writing and the really good art/music/performances made me love it
I loved the faces the characters made
For example, KDH ||the sort of power of friendship/acceptance powerup at the end is made so much better, imo, by the fact that through the whole movie the demons have been mechanically and thematically tied to shame, and that mechanically we can see how shame is physically weakening rumi, so when that happens, it fits really well into the whole narrative||
Yeah, for me, it was exactly what it said on the tin, nothing really surprising, but it was just... fun the whole time. (general spoilers) ||I also am a fan of kpop music, so the songs were immediately addictive, and I loooove tropes like Enemies to Lovers, and this movie locked in on the execution.||
I find i often focus on the themes of things, so for me kdh ||the effort put into tying demons to shame, and gwi-ma to... sort of negative voices elevated a lot of beats for me by making them fit really well||
Competently executed
And really good music
~~and also life is really difficult right now and it has become a surefire way to be able to feel 90 minutes of joy when i need that 😬 ~~
The other gif I wanted but can’t find is the trio in all black with weapons out sneaking- but they’re hunchbacked on tiptoes with maniacally grins on their faces
||also fun music + colours + jinu hot||
Some times I wonder what I'm missing by being a straight male
Being into hot guys?
||The shame theme is very simple, but the way it grows when you hide it and abates when you share it with someone who accepts you was very cleanly written. The fact that Jinu and Rumi were so defined and consumed by their shame, but they both found relief from it in each other tied it all together really well.||
Apparently
good simple idea executed well with great music and choreo and not embarrassed by being fun
KDH general ||My ability to manifest free popcorn from my eyes whenever someone's shirt lifts up is a nice perk that I guess you don't get, sorry||
Feather, next time through can you confirm something for me? ||I've seen comments saying the first honmoon was made with Jim's family||
Very valid. I definitely think it was executed very well. As mentioned it was great with the || shirt popping open scene ||. But generally I'm not as keen on the over-exaggerated faces. I can appreciate it, and I think it fit this movie well in particular.
I think I expected a bit more depth than I got tbh
That's unfortunate
I would definitely characterise this as a "short story", so to speak
Yeah that's basically where I stand. It was great. It executed on what it wanted to do really well - nailed that. I think that I just went in with expectations too high and so I was thinking it was going to hit a bar that it wasn't aiming for
Which isn't a problem with the movie or a jab at it at all
I do want to rewatch the spider verse movies again now though
Yeah I fully understand the.... dissapointment if you saw folks saying it was better than spiderverse 😭 I get that its the same studio but thats like trying to convince someone to watch a show because its "better than ATLA" and you unsurprisngly leave dissatasfied because that is a high bar to jump
Dontcha worry, I had already watched it and had a lukewarm reaction to it in this channel a few days ago
Yeah that article is WILD for suggesting KDH does anything better than spider-verse imo
But again, spider-verse movies are some of my favorites
Lol, glad I’m not the only one at least
I invited the wife to watch it friday last week, and from the way it was being talked about here I was ready for it to change my life, but it ended up just being a fun movie xD
Yeah its a few of you (and all of you are opps 👀 ) /lh
I think to some extent it's also special because of the fact that it is just a fun movie?
Huh. I think that's right actually. That's a good find:
Idk. But there's something of a very genuine and sincere and unashamed funness to it
The hair matches...
I've been seeing that theory too👀
Ok, the way I typed my last message might seem like I'm downplaying it a ton
Yeah a fun, well executed movie that’s an original IP is always great
also whoops i just hit the ping, sorry
I did think it was very well made
and said as much last week
but yeah
it wasn't "just" a fun movie
Anything that helps rope in some people to accept that animation can be good and enjoyed as an adult is a positive too
"just" a fun movie is the movie we watched last night lmao
A Dog's Purpose
cute
made me cry
cause I was reminded of this little furball in my pfp
This does have me wondering, what would you all say is your favorite movie?
I would say mine is probably Arrival
Favorite movie, as with anything favorite for me, has a lot to do with how formative it was...since I don't watch a lot of movies my scope doesn't increase much to have it dethorned lol. Easily it is The Fellowship of the Ring
i don't really have one
i have what i like right now
kdh is probably my current fave
coincidentally it's what got me into reading fantasy, cause I watched it before I'd read the books and it got me to go read my brother's books since I wanted to know how the story continued xD
hadn't my brother read them and invited me to watch the movie when it came out maybe I wouldn't be here in this discord
This is interesting to me because I feel the exact opposite: KDH is peak and Spiderverse is overhyped
Dead Poet’s Society, Pride and Prejudice, and End of Evangelion
End of Evangelion is just wow
Then of course as a kid with too much free time in an age before streaming, I read all 3 books in quick succession then proceeded to rewatch FotR about a dozen times until TTT came out the next year lmao
I think at some point I knew that movie's entire script by heart
or at least big chunks of it
Yeah I don't think I could pick just one, I like movies for so many different reasons. KDH is probably the only movie I've felt compelled to watch and rewatch the way I have... Cloud Atlas is up there, because it's so unique. Everything Everywhere All At Once. Knives Out.
crap, I still need to watch EEAAO
pacific rim, lotr movies, the original trilogy of star wars.... mad max fury road.
Ive been meaning to since it made waves a while back
lots of past faves
Yeah you do for sure!
Oh Fury Road... Yeah Fury Road is up there too
knives out really was that good
I rarely sit down to watch tv anymore :/
also netflix has a sniper dot pointed at my forehead right now, i see
Arrival is the one I always am like oh yeah that movie has been peak every single time I’ve watched it over the years.
And I’m suddenly thinking it makes a lot of sense after reflecting earlier today on why PHM is hitting so good for me right now
Is this the one Ahn Hyoseop is in
rare MG cringe L
Sameeee, it’s so hard to justify the time for me
KDH ||Yes, and it's the one the sappy song is from when Jinu knocks Rumi over in the street, they threw that song in as a Business Proposal easter egg b/c of Ahn Hyoseop. ||
Did you know that Ahn Hyoseop will be in Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint live action that premieres this month as the main character 👉 👈
sad HR noises
I think I'm getting old and full of whims lmao. I got a whole freaking ritual if I wanna sit down and watch anything. I can't just "put it on" xD
Art is subjective.
Art is subjective.
Art is subjective.
I’m sorry you’re wrong (jk) (kind of)
Art is subjective.
Art is subjective.
But nah in all seriousness I’m glad KDH hit for you so good!
I think Spiderverse 1 was hurt for me by ||it being less of a multiverse story (as it was advertised to be) and more of a story told in an alternate universe. ||
like I’m more interested in ||the multiverse weirdness || than any ||Spiderman with a skin thrown on top of them ||
ESPECIALLY when they take ||Peni Parker, who is an awesome Evangelion reference and make her not an Evangelion reference in the movie it’s just AGH ||
But I’ve read all of her comics lol (it’s like… 5 comics 😭 )
i cannot believe what i am reading
pause 😭 You have an immerasurable amout of respect for saying that with your whole chest though 🤣
That movie altered my brain chemistry but Im also super 10000% biased
-# can you tell I say this about pretty much any movie i like
miles has the sauce
shoout to when i was watching spiderverse 2 and all ||his uncle shows up at the end and someone in theater went "HE IS SO FINE"||
umm this isnt you-people
I legit just think there are interesting things to tell in (Spiderverse) ||a multiversal story but they are too afraid of scaring off audience members so they keep it very localized. They also don’t have the time to actually explore other Spidermen so they get their stories simplified and dumbed down, feeling like Spiderman # 2, 3, 4, and 5 instead of characters on their own||. Let me note that I didn’t say I don’t like it. I just said I find it overrated because of this.
THATS NOT THE DEBATE
Sapphic lol
i fee like it is
👎 👎 👎
Just 👏 because 👏 music 👏 is 👏 diegetic 👏 doesn't 👏 mean 👏 it's 👏 not 👏 a 👏 musical
have you checked under the couch?
that's not the debate either Feather 😭 Duck is misrepresenting this conversation completely
Also the KDH songs are only like 80% diegetic, yeah
KDH ||Take Down for one is not diagetic||
we're trying to distinguish between a musical as a live performance (or media that started as a live performance) and a musical movie
i mean there's also other people voting NO for some reason???? who are these wrong voters. show yourselves.
KDH ||What It Sounds Like is absolutely a musical thing to happen, they all burst into an unwritten song they've not worked on ever before but they "know" the lyrics and are singing the same melody and beat and so on.... but also their magic is musical in nature?||
sapphic said they're not on that side, i believe them
saphic is lying
I think I'm going to start watching KDH
-# takes cover
you only have to take cover if you disagree with the mods majority
Oh, you are absolutely allowed to feel however you want about the movie
ok lets not go that far
Ok I don't think stage musicals and movie musicals are fundamentally different tho. Like, most disney movies are musicals.
It's just the feeling the wrong things has consequences
thank you
send me screenshots of the apparently furious debate that's happening in a dm chain somewhere
I see your point but disagree with this
I think both are musicals but there are big stylistic differences, primarily with lacking energy in voice in movie compared to stage due to the fact more of the acting is visual in a movie and so extra acting in the voice is detrimental to average movie goers where a stage musical requires more acting in the voice because you might not see their faces but you need to hear the acting.
i think if everyone bursts out into song multiple times it is a musical
i see no other productive definition
@lone canyon please help
So it’s like a two sided thing in that movie musicals lose a lot for me listening wise but they become (1). More approachable for casual viewers (2). More visually acted
there are songs throughout, i don't see how it isn't a musical
But KDH is a musical regardless
FWIW, wikipedia distinguishes between Stage Musical and Musical Film
I think in a musical first of all there is an element of suspension of disbelief due to real people bursting into song, so there’s a level of campiness not present in for example animated movies with singing
but those are subtypes of musicals
yes I think that's an important distinction to make!
subcategory within the category of musical, sure
And also in a musical the music is the defining part of the story, whereas in a Disney movie for example it’s not
Hmm. Definitely seems like something that boils down to expectations again.
i've long assumed everyone knew disney movies were musicals
monkeygirl i need you to
- find god
- read malazan
- watch spiderverse again and realize its based
Like Hamilton, Evita and Les Mis are wildly different but they’re more similar to each other than for example Frozen
in that order
for me, I have to be able to glean basically the entire plot and character arcs from the music alone to consider it a musical
Tell me that characters who aren’t named Miles Morales are ||actual characters and not copy pasted Spiderman with a filter||
||gwen stacy and peter b parker are goated. Goated!||
have you seen the sequel
||punk spidey||
wh...at...
||Peter B Parker is literally just Peter Parker ||
Not yet
this is an unfathomable genre definition to me
if it was 50 hours long you would have seen it smh
Spiderverse ||But I think the first movie fails to actually be a multiverse movie because it fears isolating casual audience members who think multiverses are nerd stuff ||
to me this is like saying something is only a murder mysetery if it stars a detective with a silly hat
the only reasonable definition of murder mystery is there is a murder and a mystery
if it has a substantial amount of music it is a musical
spiderverse ||i think the movie's use of the multiverse as a narrative device to represent an ideal that miles fails to live up to, is more important to me than any other thing it's supposed to do as a multiverse story||
musicals have musical numbers in them
(8 minutes in)
Yes
Yes this is fantastic
across the spider-verse ||something ATSV then elevates significantly further||
Here's a better (dare I say objectively correct) definition of a muscial:
The characters must don a top hat, puck up a cane, and then start spinning around a light pole while singing about the rain for it to be a musical
excellent, i was already in happy giggles at this point
||see but then I feel gaslit by it being “into/Across the Spiderverse” because it’s about Miles, not a Spiderverse.||
what if they have 76 trombones play the big parade tho? did you consider that
just watch the sequel please i beg you
high school musical has musical in its name and it is a movie musical rather than the style of a stage musical but but definition and name.... is a musical
have you not watched the second one?
i haven't got to the second one yet myself... ||i need to see this hobie guy||
eh, one day
as in right now
are those made in the Muscial region of France?
i'm rewatching taskmaster series 19 right now i just can't find the time
I have not
i feel like i can kind of see your take for the first spider-verse insofar as it's ||a somewhat standard ensemble cast where the story doesn't have time to make peni or nic cage or the pig one significant characters. it's a fairly focused plot.|| but the second one (only the vaguest spoilers) ||both does a lot more with the multiverse as a multiverse and does a lot more with it as a narrative tool to explore miles' character.||
But also my favorite iteration of Spiderman rn is Peni Parker and Spiderverse ||takes away what I like about her (Evangelion) to force her into the “Spiderman” filter||
The second one is far better
Is the multiverse still just || “Totally not Peter Parker”, “Peter Parker but pig”, and “Peter Parker but robot”? Or do they actually explore alternate dimensions and such? Like is it used beyond just the commodity of it as a storytelling device? || Like I have a similar problem with Dr Strange MoM where ||the multiverse isn’t actually used in an interesting way because it would seem too isolating to people who might be confused||
pause. Monkey my sweet, you need to watch across the spiderverse omg
And I want multiverse if I’m promised multiverse 😭
"hey guys is empire strikes back darker i didnt like new hope being so light do bag things happen in the sequel" type beat
is it what you're looking for? IDK
is it better than MoM? There's no contest
Its miltiverse multiverse
||The hopping isnt just a montage its the whole movie|| if it helps
multiverse maxxing
across the spider-verse general ||we visit other places, and have significantly different spider-people present (i.e. ones that are just not peter parker but are other characters), but the story is also not structured around a like, adventure across four different universe. it's something more distinct (which i would say is better and more interesting than the standard multiverse plot).||
i think what's so good about across the spider-verse is the interesting things it does with the multiverse framework that go beyond the typical kind of plot
^^^
I mean I’d rather it dive into what makes up a multiverse and the interesting theoretical stuff rather than just shrugging it off if that makes sense
There is defo realmatics elaborated on
I think most movies don’t quite match multiverses of comics and books because they get more theoretical about it
Across the spider verse is one of my favorite films of all time, definitely my best cinema experience
i think that i can see the argument that (both spiderverses general) ||into the spider-verse didn't need to be a multiverse movie — it has a fairly standard plot structure and you could replace the other spider-people with just, other heroes from this universe and have a fairly similar story. the same does not apply to across the spider-verse — it's not a generic multiverse plot that's just about visting wacky places and meeting different versions of things, but it is very much a story that could only be told in a multiverse framework.||
Oh yeah I refuse to read it because again ||Peni Parker becomes copy pasted Peter Parker so why should I care if they aren’t actual characters beyond the commodity of “look! Alternate Spiderman”||
Idk if I've ever been on the edge of my seat and hanging off every word like that in the cinema before
Across has some of that but only as background cameos
The main cast is very unique and well defined as characters seperate from being apider man
I think at this point we've given all the assurances we can without literally explaining plot plots
And the way they used the music was unbelievable to me
regardless of the criteria of whether or not it succeeds as a multiverse movie, ATSV is just one of the best movies i've seen, absolutely one-ups the first on every level
Marvel comics have never done a good multiverse
Yeah
particularly in how impressive the visuals are and how it has a much more experimental narrative structure
It only has one major flaw
yeah ATSV the spidermen are much more unique characters
first spiderverse ||I mean tbh it’s less that it’s a Miles Morales movie with B-rate characters that is my problem and more that Idk why they would call it Spiderverse then if they won’t show the interesting aspects that make different Spidermen different. Like Miles isn’t the only one who could have interesting backstory elaborated on in a movie called “Spiderverse”||
i feel like your problem here is on some level that it's a movie and they did a story that was possible to do in the scope of a single movie
great news about the next one: they went for a story that was not possible to do in the scope of a single movie
the new Ultimate run is pretty good at being a multiverse story
Bad news
They went for a story that was not possible to do in the scope of a single movie
the patient among us are thriving
ima a be real they did liek the maximum extent of a multiverse you can do in a movie
June 4th, 2027 according to WP
2027 🙏
Wasnt ultimate that one unvierse where everyone was an asshole to a comical degree
Into the Spider-verse ||I think the name sort of gives it away but imo the point of the movie is showing Miles' perspective on being thrust into a multiversal event. The backstories of other characters should only be fleshed out to benifit Miles' story||
that was the old Ultimate universe
KDH ||Having a part of yourself that you feel like is broken and cursed that you're trying to fix through some sissyphean effort with no visible progress and feeling like you have to completely hide it and your struggle from the world or you'd be judged?
...I did not expect to identify with this movie so deeply and immediately.||
||haha silly kpop movie... pretty colors... haaaaaa||
Ah
more of a DC person than marvel anyway
In that line of thinking
KDH ||Yes they're evil demons and stuff but also DON'T YOU DARE STOP THEM SINGING||
There is some of this but…I do think they could have done more but feared isolating audience members so they relaxed the story instead of making it complex. Which is fine. But I like complex
when it comes to an animated movie, especially one with that much effort put in, i feel like it's also just a budget thing
Yeah that’s fair
ATSV is more complex
KDH ||Yes the lead one is hot but that buff guy with the pink hair?!?!?
STARS
I hate that they're so attractive.||
KDH || I think for me Jinu is the hottest and then Baby then Abby||
I'm horrible at names :P
I don't remember any of them
||I keep bouncing between Jinu and the other one
Jinu has the most screen time, and that's biasing me towards him.||
KDH ||The fanart of zoey and Mystery is making him grow on me???? He didn't have to bark in the movie, he really didnt.......||
||Also Jinu has a hot voice, I will listen to him talk for hours thanks :3||
You can just watch other things he is in
its not the same
I'm very tempted to start Business Proposal for that reason, though I decided to do Pop Star Academy instead (though it's Summer Games Done Quick this week so actually I'll be watching Twitch)
Spider-verse movies and comics ||I think that it’s for the best that movies didn’t dive into the lore of the Spiderverse. Spider-totems, That family of energy vampires, the Web of Life and Destiny and its origins; it is a lot. By ignoring it they were able to spend more time on the characters.||
People comped it to spider verse?????
because they're both made by sony, it was inevatible
But like….
I know 😭
But also at the same time I am very very very biased and Miles's story resonates with me on a very personal level... and I mean the girls do too! But its not the same
I wouldn't compare them either because they're 2 different movies doing 2 different things
Yes one is the pinnacle of animation, storytelling, and modern super hero movies and the other is a fun romp
Its like saying I have to compare Dexter's lab and Primal just because they're made by the same dude
Yeah it’s a bit nuts and like undercuts KDH for no reason
I think they're both very visually inventive, though- spiderverse leaning into comic stylings and KDH with exaggerated manwha faces
mhm, I agree!!
The artstyle and animation quality are the comps, but they're very different genres. Both very high quality, high attention to detail, but different cultural contexts
I do think spiderverse just has better character writing
KDH is really good, but it is also universal in a way i respect but dont love
I think KDH also took inspiration with the hyper quick characterization
Yeah it will gladly rest at #2 movie I watched this year (Sinners wont move from number 1)
Tailored to different kinds of audiences. Like, I adore the technical prowess of Spiderverse, but KDH has themes and tropes that I find more personally fun for my taste, so I gravitate towards that one. Also Spiderverse isn't a musical, and dang I loooooove the music as a huge part of what makes me keep coming back to KDH. Do I think KDH is better than Spiderverse? Not necessarily. But it's better suited to me.
Yeah like I can see how KDH would cater to that
I think I also prefer kdh to spiderverse out of personal taste
Spiderverse/KDH ||There are not enough straight girl thirst traps in Spiderverse for it to win this matchup in my heart, because I am 4x vulnerable to hot, tortured demon kpop boy as a concept.||
||i think kdh caters to you in the way spiderverse caters to me||
Across the Spiderverse ||Miguel's pretty good tho, I'll give him that.||
||so true. ||
KDH caters to a lot of things I enjoy in media
I do think the fact that KDH got a PG rating is wild tho. (KDH all spoilers) ||Like, the amount of IN DEPTH focus on the male characters explicitly being sexy to women is wild. If those roles were reversed and female characters were being framed with those lingering camera pans on their sexy bodies, you KNOW they would have slapped a PG-13 on it. Which does feel a little bit double standard, that women's bodies are apparently innately more sex-adjacent then men's are or something. Also though, the dark thematic stuff of like, protaganist asks her adoptive mom to mercy kill her? Demons getting chopped in half and human characters dying from getting their souls sucked out of them? Like they're very careful not to show much on screen and there's no blood, but STILL. ||
||ratings are not really determined by tone||
||but yeah there is also a double standard with having men being ogled||
KDH ||but also like it’s usually women getting ogled so I’m happy to have a turn for my taste
||
||A male character's shirt rips open in slow motion while the female characters very clearly are lusting over his body. Like. This is not a subtle exchange that was happening there.
||
||honestly depending on what you watch, it has flipped||
Oh yeah but 100% glad to see it on the other side
Shonen mostly is what I think of
Ok well
This scene is gold
||the popcorn gag is genius||
KDH ||Having Zoey wear a bucket hat the whole time, since they went to the tonic remedy guy's office just so she could catch the popcorn in it was inspired||
ALSO THIS SCENE PLAYS AN EXO SONG SO IT GETS 182626252 POINTS 🤩
Im sorry
Im normal agai
-# no im not
So I finished KDH
||What I said at the beginning about immediately and deeply identifying with the movie?
That got so, so much stronger at the tree scene.
And then during the last song, "What It Sounds Like," I was crying.
You guys don't know me irl, so you have no idea how hard it is to make me cry. It's not something I do very often. Even during the saddest movies and the most tragic books, I barely tear up.
But that song and the meaning behind it just... Struck a chord with my soul.
So... Wow.
Even past the fact that Rumi's story made my soul feel like a tuning fork that was just hit by a freight train, it was an amazing movie. The visuals, the animation, the character design. I love that they leaned into the goofy and impossible faces. It gave a lot of soul to the movie. The music was fantastic and I quite like the characters. The set design was cool, the story was interesting...
This is a very, very good movie.
I'll need a rewatch to make sure, but it's probably going on the shelf next to Nimona and Heartstopper as visual media that changed me.||
I was about to say
Cosmic I don't think you can be normal and I love that about you
I mean with men like that how can I be 😔 i am only so strong!!
Also that is so sweet that it rang those chords so strongly for you 🥰
Yippee!
The song that plays in this scene is from Business Proposal with Ahn Hyoseop as the lead
Me rn
Oh wait right! Sorry, me and my brain fried 🤣
[KDH] ||Any arc with a character that wants to "fix" an integral and unchangeable part of themselves and then learning to accept and love themselves for who they are hits really deeply for me. I've gone through something very similar in the last year and a half, so characters like that hit really hard.||
sighs
I was going to do the dishes while I watched but I ended up on the couch not being able to look away.
And the dishes still need to be done
KDH ||this has been such a huge area of growth for me too in recent years. Learning to love yourself for all your “flaws” because they aren’t actually flaws, you’re just built different ||
||so I adored that message because… that shift in mindset has done wonders for my mental state||
||Especially when they're "flaws" that other people taught you are wrong and that you need to hide.
It's an important message that we still need to see more of imo.||
KDH ||Also all of you saying this is making me realize that I... didnt connect with the themes that way?? Which isnt to say it didnt execute well, I saw it more as a "awww poor girls" over "woah... this is ME"||
Also I am gonna say: I adore and accept all of you as you are
no need to change or shift who you are~
goes back to listening to the soundtrack
My wrapped is gonna be so... this 😭
-# Thank you I know I’m incredible
Also here's a hot take: Soda Pop is an underrated masterpiece and deserves more flowers
Soda pop is great
That key change at the end??? mmmmmm 🫣💕💖
This is how I feel about Takedown
-# I like the twice version more than the movie version tbh 🫣
KDH ||the part in the movie where they are fighting against the mob of zombies and Rumi just freezes while singing “a demon with no feelings don’t deserve to live it’s so obvious”||
We should rank the 9 main songs
Ok bet
||Soda pop might be near the bottom for me||
||true! Kill all demons!||
- Your Idol
- What It Sounds Like
- Takedown
- Golden
- Soda Pop
- Free
- How It’s Done
Is my ranking of the main songs
Which additional 2 are you counting lol
sorry i accidentally counted the other takedown versions
Oh lolol
Dang, I missed the discussion on KDH's plot because I was out hiking.
I'll just say what I want to say anyways, because I love a good old necrobumb, even if nobody replies.
- Your Idol
- Golden
- How Its Done
- Soda Pop
- What it sounds like/free/take down (no preference)
It's always the time for KDH plot discussion
Kpop Demon Hunters ||I do agree that the plot was relatively straight forward and simple. The story was short and lean, only Rumi and Jinu had character arcs (Zoey and Mira, while dripping with character, only had the vaguest hints of character arcs), but that was okay. What the movie did was:
- Tell a simple but good story.
- Execute it well.
- Tell it with a heaping pile of sincerity.
As someone who has manifested an alternate aspect sexuality from a young age, one that I very much had to hide from my mom because I knew she wouldn't accept it, the story's simple and obvious analogy to the censoring of queer kids and how so many cultures in our world try to "fix" queer people as they grow up...it broke me a little bit, in a good way. It made me feel something, genuinely moved me to tears which (thanks to the way masc hormones work) is very difficult for me. That to me is art in its purest and most perfect form. Is it gonna work for everyone? Nah of course not. But did it work for me? Hell yeah, and hold this movie in very high regard for it.||
KDH ||it felt to me like it really correlated well with my struggles with autism and the way your flaws… your failures are taught on a societal level as “wrong” and things to hide away. So a different experience, but I identified with it similarly. I think it’s a good broad analogy for struggle or flaws society tries to ignore and push away and I definitely think a lot of people can identify with this with similar experiences of having to… hide away parts of themselves or work to hide the monster within. I know I did. ||
||I think it works for a lot of very different identities that people try to 'fix'||
Yeah
KDH ||it’s a broad analogy IMO intentionally for lots of people to identify with ||
KDH ||i dont read it as being specifically queer or autistic. it is more about someone going through those emotions. the fact the emotions are portrayed well is what lets people connect with them regardless of their individual circumstances||
||in the same way pop music has a generic appeal||
I agree
|| He really does ||
Funnily it reminds me of when Frozen tried a similar message but this does it better
I’ll relisten to songs and rank them tomorrow. But for now I can confidently say my ranking is
- Free
2 and 3. Your Idol and Takedown (order unsure)
4+. The rest
James Gunn and Zack Snyder were in the latest episode of Rick and Morty ||https://fxtwitter.com/le5b0b0mb/status/1942066920762532245?s=46||
Literally voiced by them
aint no way
I think you and I had a very similar reaction
||"Broke me a little bit, in a good way" is a fantastic way to put it. That's how both Nimona and Heartstopper made me feel as well||
them refering to each other by full name only is so funny to me
Late to the ranking discussion but here’s mine 👀
Watched it Saturday night after peer pressure from my fellow staffers and loved it
I legit have a sore throat from singing Golden’s high notes too much yesterday
Gave the KDH soundtrack another listen this morning. I think my gut reaction says my overall my ranking of the songs would be:
- Free
- Free
- Free
- Takedown (Twice version because it's just better)
- How It's Done
- What It Sounds Like
- Golden
- Your Idol
- Soda Pop
Funny, I thought How It's Done was just alright initially, but it's pretty catchy actually
5-8 could switch around a bit possibly but I'm sticking with this. Free and Takedown are definitely my clear favorites. Soda Pop is definitely my clear least favorite
All very solid songs, though I think Soda Pop is radically weaker than all of the others
All that said, if ranking the songs in the context of the movie rather than just how the songs stand on their own, Your Idol and What It Sounds like shoot up above How It's Done. The scenes accompanying those songs were so good
whomst this be 👀👀
still mad Spotify didn’t put love me right in the official playlist its fine im fine im also very normal about exo

Real and true
Watching it with my real friends to see their reactions is peak, but I'll settle for watching strangers on the internet when I run out of friends to indoctrinate
I’m having my best friend over Friday night and we’re watching it together 🍿 (him for the first time)
P&F 5.1 ||man, what a first episode lmao||
This is basically how I've decided I'll feel about the Legend of Zelda movie if it doesn't turn out well. (Minus the "yet again" part.)
I’m very curious where the Legend of Zelda movies story is gonna go
Like it should honestly be its own original story instead of adapting one of the games
But it should take major inspiration from most of the games story beats
I feel like it should be a mix, yeah. Not a direct adaptation of any game, but with elements taken from the games. I think Ocarina of Time is the best one for story beats.
A lot is gonna ride on what runtime they're aiming for
They should just have Link not talk in the movie at all, and it’s just never explained why he doesn’t talk
That would be amazing
Yeahhh. One of my only real criticisms of the Super Mario Bros movie is how it tried condensing the whole movie's plot into less than 90 minutes. It rushed the story.
I'm really hoping the Zelda movie is over two hours long. The longer, the better.
Like you could do a speedran Zelda story, it'd just probably have to be action focused
Nah, he doesn't talk until the very end of the movie, where he delivers 5 minute long "the lesson I learned today" monologue
Knowing Hollywood they're gonna want the Zelda and Link romance angle, so that certainly narrows options
I want Link to be able to speak, but very soft-spoken. He's a quiet guy who doesn't have much to say, and therefore will have very few lines. Which is kind of how he canonically already is.
Generally, the Link in a Zelda game can speak, we as the players just don't "hear" it. So not letting him speak in the movie at all just sounds like committing to a bit for the sake of a bit.
IMO
I want sassy link but I don't trust they'd get the balance right
Right. It's totally feasible, but I don't know if we can trust the studios with that kind of nuance.
On the one hand, I don't want to think about the LoZ movie because LoZ is already something I've slowly begun to not care about, and I don't want to fall back down that hole until I know that the next big one isn't BotW 3. But on the other hand, I think A Link to the Past could also serve as a decent base, if they want to go for a more story-focused route (albeit, it'd also be a bit more generically fantasy; "random normal kid is a hero of prophecy", vs the reverse changeling fantasy that OoT starts with)
They've got tons of options if they want to draw from specific games, though i'd hope they instead write it as if they were creating a brand new LoZ story
That's one of the fun parts of LoZ
For sure, but I'm not 100% sure they would, considering how the Mario movie did it
Being me, I've already come up with story ideas for a Zelda movie trilogy, so I've made the mistake of already having an idea of what the movie could/should be. 😅 And it does involve basing the plot of the first one on Ocarina of Time and the third one on A Link to the Past.
But I have to admit it would probably be better to make it more of an original story.
Tbf it is an entirely different production team
Who knows, maybe Nintendo would even call it canon
Ah, yeah in that case I'm a lot more willing to believe they'd go their own route
Chris Pratt: Zelda
Zendaya: The Princess (forget her name)
Jack Black: The moon
uh
who else is in legend of zelda?
Tingle
Kevin Hart as Ganondorf, digitally doubled in size for accuracy.
Ooh, who should play Tingle...
Al Yankovic
who you casting for fairies
Awkwafina
Weird Al would be a solid Tingle, but I feel like Danny Devito could perfectly encapsulate the character
Danny Devito should be Zelda and link
For casting or for the cast?
Wait, you're so right 😂
This is going to be the longest week of my life
Where's the Zelda movie going in the timeline(s)?
Beforererer Skyward sword
We don't even know if it will be, but that's a fun idea to speculate.
It isn't in the timeline, and will be present in an unannounced magitech Zelda game as a program on tvs around town
weird al voiced danny acted
Watch it be a Hyrule Warriors:Age of Calamity adaptation that does all of these things
I have Golden stuck in my head
But I can't listen to it for another hour until I go on lunch
sing it.
I'm about to indoctrinate two more people into KDH
And so the propaganda spreads 😈
This soundtrack does not hit as hard on my earbuds.
My headphones have way better sound 😭
@quasi hatch sent me this earlier and it's so real 😭 https://www.ddinstagram.com/reel/DLxryVhSK-a/?igsh=OWFncmllNzU0YTJw
within feather there are two wolves: a desire for religious tolerance, and a drive to indoctrinate everyone in the KDH cult
one is getting its ass beat
How DARE you call me out so accurately
Are they actually making a Zelda movie
Or is this just being floated
they are
It's got a director and everything
Miyamoto himself announced it
No casting yet, though
In a sense, everything is internet delusion
It was announced after the Chris Pratt Mario movie made a gazillion dollars
hopefully thats not an omen of its quality
I dunno, if the Zelda movie is the same level of quality as the Illumination Mario movie, I'll be somewhat surprised. I'm expecting something much worse.
The actor who's going to play Zelda even looks very much like zelda
No casting has been announced
There was a Chris Pratt Mario movie??
Someone floated an actor who is perfect for the role looks wise and the chuds imploded because their usual complaints against castings because she doesn't match their mental picture are not valid.
People fancasted Hunter Schafer, and she said she'd be interested
Warp into the new official #SuperMarioMovie trailer.

With Jack Black as Bowser
Yes and it was awesome
-# it kinda boiled down to jangling keys in your face but I like that so :3
Is the zelda movie even going to be live action?
yes
I’ll be real, I’m sure I heard of it but I think I blocked it from my memory
And of course we got this banger from it:
Love really makes a turtle come out of his shell. #SuperMarioMovie

The plot of Zelda is that ||link has to rescue a princess but then it turns out he’s the princess all along or something?||
Who is link?
Ohhh I thought she had been picked or something
The guy?
That you play as?
Zelda ||he and Zelda are the same person right?||
I was 90% that was the drama I had just assumed they had picked her and that the chuds as you put it were raging at them picking her. Rather than just her saying "yeah I would do that"
Makes the drama even more silly than I thought
Well yes, they’re the same person 😭
Or so I was told
In elementary school
Were you told this by someone in a green triforce tshirt and cargo shorts?
If not they were not an authoritative source
😔
Wait we can say dumbass?!?!?
Omg
Ty for this information
Now I can properly express my loathing for certain characters
Various Zelda games ||no afiak there is not one where Link and Zelda are the same person. However, there are multiple where it turns out Zelda was actually in disguise as another character||
Same ||oh yeah, she's a crossdresser, iirc?||
Ocarina of Time ||Zelda turns out to be Sheik. I don't know of any other examples ||
It legitimately should just be a straight adaption of OoT tbh
Every Zelda plays around the formula of ||the heroic Link saving the day|| with many entries being specifically about ||Link rescuing Zelda from the clutches of Ganondorf because she possesses 1/3 of the triforce ||
Zelda sounds more interesting than i thought it was
I really dont think OoT lends itself to film
i dont think any of the games do tbh
Maybe Twilight Princess or Skyward Sword, but even then with massive adaptation considerations
A BotW prequel could probably work though
yeah but BOTW sucks ass story wise
Camille I can't believe you've spent most of your life genuinely believing this
yes that is exactly the plot
and gameplay wise
( i dont like botw)
I mean, straight up that'd be the point. BotW General ||From what I remember, the big complaints about the memories were that they were too little, and that they were collection-order-agnostic. A movie that's just fleshing out the memories and giving the characters more space to breath could be pretty good. You'd just need to find a way to still give it a good, clear ending for the people that haven't played and won't play the actual game.||
TotK ||Zelda was a badass, accomplished, scholar and they so could have run with that angle for her but instead she just turned into a dragon in the past.||
man I was really hoping I'd disagree with this but that was...overall not super great 😭
The Old Guard 2 ||normally I'd be down for some new lore but the first movie didn't really need it and it just introduced new continuity errors and confused the situation, and the plot wasn't super compelling on its own? I'm mostly left with "but why did that work the way it did" and "this is what we're going with?"||
Old guard 2 || Quyhn was the biggest letdown. Her character suffered unending torture for 500 yrs and instead of being bat insane she comes back sounding like Andy stood her up for prom.
To make it worse the actress wasn’t really up to the task either. Just wooden acting and delivery. Wasted potential setting up another lame sequel that will probably never happen.||
||doesn't help that I didn't know there was gonna be such a huge cliffhanger. they went to the library to study and I was like...why aren't you going after them?? aren't we kind of on a time limit of how long people can resist torture, at best? I thought this was more urgent? and then the movie just ended there and I was like ??????? 😅 ||
||and I loved how we can now magically transfer immortality cuz they needed to keep Charlize for another sequel lol||
oh I do disagree here, I thought ||Quynh was pretty good||
||I was glad they didn't drag out the "you left me" forever because Andy did look for her!!||
She was awful lol
and I thought the actress was good
||it could've been cool to see her a bit more feral but the state she was in didn't seem unrealistic to me||
this was...so weird
||when they first reunited I thought Andy was gonna break down and hug her. Your partner and lover you haven’t seen in 500 yrs. But they chose the alternate route of stoic whisperings||
The Old Guard 2 ||like okay for one thing - Nile didn't take away Andy's immortality, that's just not when it happened, the stab they flashbacked to healed up just fine and so did everything else Nile did to her in the following fight. it was an injury in the church fight that she realized wasn't healing. and the other times we see it happen, with Booker and Quynh, both times it's the first wound they take from her that doesn't heal, they immediately see results. if it was just Book I could MAAYYYYBE see it just being a delayed effect for some people and just different timing, but with it being both of them and then implying it was the first time she hurt Andy too - that's just a retcon/continuity error||
DCU Trinity, manifesting this to happen 🙏 🙏
||yeah valid, I would have liked a little more in that regard, their reunion worked for me with the fight but I also expected more later||
||one thing that made me emote a confused gif is when she said “you couldn’t even find me in a small part of the ocean”
Like bruh. Ppl can’t find planes in the ocean||
The Old Guard 2 ||and another thing, the dreaming about immortals you haven't met yet - how the hell does that work then? it seemed straightforward in the first movie, but now they have Nile dream about another one for the first time significantly later than she dreamed Quynh, and seemingly none of the others dreamed of any other immortals at all and were shocked that more existed and Andy hadn't told them?? it just worked according to plot 😒 ||
||yeah that had me squinting too. like girl even if Andromache knew what part of the ocean you were in, it would STILL be hard. we lose people on land, we lose them in the sea, it's wild under there. especially with the tech they would've had 500 years ago!||
The whole thing reminded me of that TV show The Manifest lol. Idk if you’ve seen it.
They came up with a premise for it and didn’t know where to take it when they made the first season so they just yada yada’d their way, throwing anything at a wall hoping it sticks
I haven't seen that
I wonder how much of this and the next one are based on the comics, I've heard they are somewhat and there's at least one more graphic novel in production?
Didn’t know they were based on comics, makes sense
||also when did Discord (...whose name was very dramatic but maybe from the comics so I'll forgive it, something something Mistborn joke) turn mortal? did I miss this happening in the movie? I feel like I wasn't understanding her motivations really||
||i think they just implied it happened naturally||
The Old Guard 2 ||and! also also! another continuity error or retcon in that they thought Andy was the first - maybe I'm misremembering the narration from the first one but I thought they mentioned that guy who came before her and Quynh (and also lost his immortality way before Nile was alive, so do they still lose it naturally like the first movie was going with, or are we just ignoring that now?). I thought they knew she wasn't the first||
||I don’t remember the first one much, I’m pretty sure they implied Andy was among the first if not the first||
It would be really funny if that was mod abuse and this message got blocked
I had to test it out!
The Old Guard 2 + suicide + self-harm CWs ||when it comes to character arcs...I kinda like that Booker still does not want to be immortal, hasn't gotten over it in a few months, and would try to sneak in and lose it on purpose, that totally tracks for him and I liked the training fight where he was trying to get Nile to hurt him by accident and Tuah noticed and was like "hey no you don't" and joined and protected him, and then Booker just fully gave up and rushed them - that was a well-crafted scene imo. but even setting aside the weirdness with the new worldbuilding and just taking the character choices into account - I hate that he sacrificed himself like that. there's a conversation to be had about whether suicide becomes a more valid option or not when you've been alive much longer than normal and you just don't want to keep going forever, but I hate the trope of suicidal characters sacrificing themselves and this not being acknowledged as suicide and/or being treated as the right thing for them to have done - to be fair, most characters don't even know yet and we haven't seen Andy process it, so maybe I'll like how they handle that in the third movie, maybe everyone will be pissed at him about it and talk about some of the nuances lol, but I don't know yet.||
||smaller note but also I didn't like how long they lingered on his death and then his dead face - it's been a gory couple movies, but it hasn't often felt gratuitous to me. but that did; it just felt like an unnecessarily long time and it probably didn't help that I wasn't fully emotionally bought into the moment and grieving him the way Andy was||
||it also felt like everyone forgave him pretty quickly, which I'm more willing to forgive myself because you gotta have a story and if you want all the main characters to be involved you have to do something about it. it was good enough||
||I don't hold this against the movie, but I also didn't come out of it with any new songs to add to my playlist, it was devoid of the bangers the first movie had :(||
Your analysis is wasted on such a shallow cash grab of a movie lol
is greg fraiser doing the next batman movie? or is he on Dune messiah
Is this why Zelda ||they're eying a trans woman for the role??||
Both i believe
Iirc one is being filmed after the other
Nevermind, looks like he's not doing Dune Messiah
Probably just a rumour i heard in passing
is this at me?
it looks like the comics author worked on the screenplay and it was based on his work so I wouldn't go straight to calling it a cash grab
Is Kpop Demon Hunter a musical?

Early reactions for Superman are in
Apparently it’s peak
Like REALLY good
Like REALLY REALLY REALLY good
I’ll take that with a grain of salt
It’s so good xD ||I was like “oh this is a pretty standard ep, almost boring” when the halfway point hit
||
So I watched the Project Hail Mary trailer now that I’ve finished the book since as I was reading the book (knowing that the trailer had just come out) I was thinking it’d be really interesting to see how it’s adapted.
I liked the trailer. Cautiously optimistic it could be a decent adaptation. Granted they have a really tough task on their hands because the book was just SO GOOD.
Oh yeah, found yesterday I had some KDH songs stuck in my head playing in my head, particularly as I was trying to get to sleep. And just now I had some stuff pop up again.
So now I'm listening to the soundtrack again
It's absurdly catchy
I legit got a sore throat from singing them too much xD
Which does not work well for me as a bass
(Besides Idol)
Golden is my favorite, but I can see why having singing issues is a plot point because those high notes are high
That movie is so GIF-able too
KDH cosplay from bbno$

though, of course, my love for the media is very dignified and normal, no brainrot
Nobody in this discord server has any brainrot for any piece of media. We’re not nerds <- blatant lie
No KDH brainrot at all to be found on this server, trust
I'm literally listening to the music right now
Me, not entirely sure what Ryan's personality is going to be after superman comes out given that it's all I've seen him discuss for a month
Superman 2, of course 😌
I have much more personality traits
I don't doubt that
But my personality trait will be Superman until we get a sequel
It's just, my entire impression of you at the moment is "SUPERMAN"
Actually my entire personality is gonna be Supergirl for the next year
That’s the next movie
We all love big blue
I will find a new hyper fixation tho
still superman
-# you didnt see him during the super bowl tbf
-# That’s marvel though
can someone explain why people care about gunn v snyder
there good friends (AFIAK) and snyders best movie was written by gunn
Idk
I just posted because I think it’s crazy how higher it is than Man of Steel
But I’m noted as not big of a fan of Man of Steel
For sure
He just cannot really write a captivating story tho
His stories are always VERY surface level
He has this very uniquely american great man individualist tone to him IMO
Hes also probably bisexual
My guess is Supergirl
no eagles football starts again soon
so he just needs to hold out until then
wait DEFENDING SUPER BOWL CHAMPS eagles
there we go
Don’t know much about Supergirl but I’ve read the comic the movie is gonna be based on so I’m excited for sure
And Milly Alcock is always a win in my book
A lot of Snyder fans think he’s one of the last Truley artistic directors and he’s one of the last with a cult of personality where people are fans of the specific director. Would be my guess
like noone that isnt attracted to men is making 300, but noone that isnt attracted to women is making suckerpunch
300 was actually good I won’t lie
Especially since that movie really doesn’t have much of a story and it’s just pure action which is right up Snyder’s alley
I think you underestimate the ability of straight men to not realize how homoerotic they are being
I will be calm with the Eagles this season
I see no reason why I should crashout
300 is great except for everything involving the Persians
X
My dad loves 300 for some reason
what's the over/under on which week you say jalen hurts is a bottom 5 QB?
I think it’s a perfect dad movie
Under 0.5
The real crashouts will come when the Phillies postseason comes around again
Its very hard to defend yourself when we've seen multiple crashouts sweetie 😂
Bold to assume they make the playoffs its not certain yet
I mean
It would be an epic collapse if they didn’t tho
if we are talking about surface level
that's about what you are going to find in blockbusters
if they dont make the playoffs a crashout is justified
at a certain point you reach it where like
you know what your doing
yeah the persians were one of the worst societies in ancient history
while thep ersians were pretty based
In honor of me talking about Rotten Tomatoes, here’s still the funniest Rotten Tomatoes reveal video ever

The way it goes all the way up and then drastically drops is comedic genius
Props to whoever edited it
It's sort of like how James Cameron is a great director but not a great screenwriter. Or how George Lucas is a great concept writer, but sucks at screenwriting and directing
the thing lucas is best at is sfx
George Lucas would genuinely be one of the best filmmakers of all time if he knew how to write dialogue
Lucas' real passion is editing
And I will give him that
Saw superman
It was a Superman movie (complimentary)
It was a James Gunn movie (complimentary)
I was smiling when the movie ended
Won't post any more til the wider release
how did you see it

Advanced screening near me through fandango

Seeing it at 9:30 on Friday
Wish I was able to get to the early screenings but I can’t wait

When the ORV anime drops you best believe I’ll surpass annoyance levels
You know when high school athletes do the thing where they choose their college and they have the hats in front of them?
That’s how I’ll choose my next hyper fixation
Manhwa? Webtoons
Novel is getting physical release in English end of the month.
I recommend the manhwa rn for accessibility
imagine having a pice of media thats your whole personality

I dmed with more info on the novel
I’m hoping he listens to the comments and cosplays Mira
Anyone here watching the new Nautilus show. It is pretty fun
Though a not so fun fact I learned is that this is the first time Nemo is played by an Indian.

Haha, just watched episode seven tonight. It IS a fun show, and I love that there's competing antagonists
oh I am interested 👀
Fine I'll watch it
KDH ||are people just, not able to be fans of more than one group
Also seriously who animated this they're insane||
Same studio as spiderverse
That explains a lot
Out of curiosity, are you into K-pop IRL?
KDH ||also the not mom gets the big ol eyebrow for the whole "hunters kill all demons" right after "your mom boned a demon"
Sounds like there's a bit more nuance here to me||
No, never been that interested
(though my lack of exploring it as an interest probably comes from the same "relationship that exploded in my face" as what kept me from checking out One piece for a long time so it's possible that I'd like it and I've just been avoiding it because of my BACKSTORY)
KDH ||hm, a bit of a simple ending, I was hoping for a bit more. There's more layers to this that I feel are kinda unexplored, and a general lore nut, that kinda irks me. That being said, fun watch||
||also you bet thereafter rainbow demon tattoos are becoming a fad||

KDH ||this was such a fun movie and way to good||
New on the list of "abbreviations for works I haven't seed/read/played/etc. that I always misread as something else", I seem to be misreading KDH as "Kill 6-Dillion Hemons"
I also now have new music to add to The Playlist
I swear, every time I use the Apple Music app for Mac I feel tempted to switch back to Spotify. It's wild to me that they haven't rewritten this yet to be more like the mobile app
I just use deezer on all platforms cause I use android and I like my lossless music
Totally fair!
Starting Ironheart. Why does so much of the MCU take place in New York?
Because the comic book industry is based in NYC
Because Stan Lee wanted his comics to reflect the world right outside his window, and right outside his window was NYC
I think it makes what’s supposed to be a really big universe feel kind of “small” in a way
Granted I haven’t watched a lot of the MCU since endgame. Some stuff here and there
And perhaps this is only coming to mind now because of reading Emberdark recently. The Cosmere feels really expansive to me in comparison
did you watch superman?
It came out today in my country
I hope it’s everything you’ve been dreaming it would be
I’ve only watched one review but based on that review it sounds like it’s very much tailored towards hardcore DC fans
I just want DC to get a win, we’ve been in the trenches for so long
I’m not watching this movie for me, I’m watching this movie for that kid who would spend hours in his room reading DC Comics in 2010 and wearing a Superman costume for Halloween
I’m watching it for him
(I was wrong and this is taking place in Chicago, not New York. My bad)
Let’s GO
What the heck is Trainwreck?
Ironheart episode 2 || Why did they have to name the sketchy racist black market guy Joe. First Goldberg, now this guy. Can’t catch a break here ||
16 is a really good number
A Dutch teen's accidental public Facebook party invite goes viral, inspired by Project X movie. Thousands RSVP. Officials ignore warnings. With no entertainment planned, arriving crowds in Haren turn to rioting.
is trainwreck a docuseries? because wasn't it last week when KDH beat trainwreck poop cruise or something in the top ten
Yes, trainwrecks are small documentaries about disasters, accidents
IDK who bbno$ is, but DAMN those cosplays
at this rate the KDH crew will need their own role that can be pinged
hes a musician
the music playing the background is his most recent song
he also cosplays a lot
I’m so hype for Fantastic 4 as well, that’s my dads favorite comic book ever so I’m hoping they get it right this time for him 😭 🙏
Im looking forward to watch the new Superman movie tomorrow
Haven't seen a super hero movie in theater for a long time
W
Seeing it Friday
Couldn’t for the life of me find any Thursday showtimes near me
Supposedly someone else is going to get tickets. My only hope is the seats are ok
Yeah, my one friend but our tickets, I’m going with four other friends
They should be good seats
Speaking of F4, I love this

Jack Kirby is and always Will be the GOAT
His run on Jimmy Olsen was fantastic
YES
Probably too late for a KDH thread eh?
Ngl I can really appreciate KDH for giving me some good kpop to listen to again. I used to go to Blackpink to scratch the kpop itch and haven’t found a replacement since I stopped listening to them
If anyone has recs for some other good kpop bands that don’t throw around racial slurs, that’d be great
TIL that K-Pop has a racial slur problem
Nah I’ve only heard about that being a Blackpink issue
I just hadn’t really had a kpop itch since I found out about that
But after KDH I figured some people here probably have some good recs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=psLrMVbhvAU shout out to this video perfectly articulating my thoughts on mag protocol
Diclaimer don't actually use this video as a drinking game, the total shots you would have to take is 45.
Thanks for watching! My apolagies for both the audio being a bit shit and not uploading in ages, I wanted to get this video out so I could move on.
Decided to look at my Apple Music Replay for the last 2 months. And… they’re the same lmfao
Boy do i have the perfect boy group for you 🤩
like actual slurs or words that osund like slurs
-# Is it Exo
-# how did you know 🫣
Actual slurs
Have seen your mention of them I think. Familiar with them already
YES! my job is halfway done! 🤩
Having just looked it up, seems like it was the n-word used in the lyrics of songs in audition tapes around 15 years ago. There might be more examples, but that was the main one I saw.
sorry, so fifteen years ago, they used a song with a slur for an audition?
And the tapes were leaked a few months ago. But like I said, that's just the main story I saw.
15 years ago, I was < 18 and thus an idiot
blackpink are (a) younger than me, and (b) would do whatever they were told to succeed as an idol
I'd blame the company before I blamed the girls
I think it may have been something else that I had heard about. I may be wrong and misremembering. I remember it came up on a video in my gf’s feed while I was driving a while back, so I was just listening in.
I could be wrong though. A quick search does seem to show the above instance first, and honestly I have other things to do than dig into it further to try to find if it was something else
Just saw the new Red Sonja movie trailer
Why can’t my girl have a good movie???! Or at least one that’s bad in a fun/campy way
RED SONJA is in theaters August 15 and on digital platforms August 29!
Directed by M.J. Basset
Starring: Matilda Lutz, Martyn Ford, Robert Sheehan, Wallis Day, Michael Bisping, Philip Winchester, Trevor Eve, Luca Pasqualino, Rhona Mitra
Enslaved by an evil tyrant who wishes to destroy her people, barbarian huntress Red Sonja must unite a grou...
It also looks super low budget
Guys im finally watching KDH
my friends all refuse to watch it because of the animation style and that eating gif 😭
yeah the artystyle doesnt appeal to me ot say the least
Colman Domingo it’s time https://x.com/screentime/status/1943006739038900695?s=46
eh ive given up on the MCU after the robert downey jr dr doom cast
Just watched 28 years later
Banger movie, except for the epilogue ending, which was bizarre
28 years later ||extremely effective coming of age story of a young boy realizing the flaws in his society, even if those flaws have evolved very understandably||
Official Jaxxxy Review of KPop Demon Hunters:
||Kitty!! 10/10||
Oh, I've seen a ton of talk about this movie today. Do you think it would still be enjoyable for someone who is ambivalent towards kpop in general?
As someone ambivalent towards kpop in general 10000% yes
I still know nothing about K-pop and I loved it
Kpop knowledge not at all necessary!
TMA 80 relisten: ||[EXTENDED SOUNDS OF BRUTAL PIPE MURDER]||
god i forgot homestuck existed
Lol watched the first 2/3rds of Twilight today
Found this really good post about 28 years later || https://www.tumblr.com/nitewrighter/787098200129634304/spikes-disillusionment-with-his-father-and?source=share||
I think the story works as almost a gritty modern Arthuriana with ||Spike as Galahad, representing a gentler more spiritual idea of masculinity and Jamie as Lancelot representing the active, powerful but ultimately flawed masculinity||
In the Arthuriana Lancelot, despite being a model of secular knighthood, was ultimately unable to see the Holy Grail (largely because of his various adulteries) whereas the virtuous Galahad was the ultimate Grail knight
My DCU ranking
blue beetle slander
BLUE BEETLE MENTION
Funny enough... that actually might be my favorite live action DC movie 😅
first time for everything in this server
same tbh
The Batman was great but Blue Beetle had heart
halfway decent romance too
ok if we are doing live action dc, it is probably the batman
i think blue beetle is better than any snyderverse movie
Objectively, yes 😂
-# but me being down bad puts blue bettle on top
live your truth
Heresy against the snyderfans
Yes :3 always :3
And i gave him a chance! Even his new Norse show is so... him 😭 at least you can tell when he's behind something
Twilight of The Gods gives me similar feelings Young Justice does but theres no nostalgia so im just kinda :/
Anyway tldr go watch blue beetle its fun and charming and xolo does a fantastic job as Jamie
Yeah it’s not even close it’s a stomp it’s a very big and funny stomp

Yeah that’s a resounding yes.
David Corenswet says he is under contract for a potential ‘SUPERMAN’ sequel.
(Source: https://t.co/qMBEH2PPRD)
Tomorrow is the dayyy
seems to be standard to have a contract figured out for a sequel before a film blows up, if he didn't have a contract he'd have more leverage after a success for example?
Something like that. If it’s super successful it’s not just the money there’s probably priority for filming written in so they don’t have to idk cgi out a mustache on Superman
That could never happen
Joe Abercrombie just tweeted this
Damn Usha this could’ve been you
I saw Burbank and my thoughts instantly went to KDH
I'm just glad I'm not the only one this deeply pilled. I'd feel lonely
Don’t worry, I’m not escaping it any time soon
i was in burbank recently for a family thing and it was weird seeing it in the movie
OHHHHHH
Thank god, I needed good news today
Apple TV once again being the streamer with the most Ws
EYYYYYY
Season finale tonight!!!
I’ve been loving the show so far
-# no don’t look at their mls deal
I'm looking forward to doing a full rewatch bc I think this one is gonna be better on a binge
I think they’ve done a great job fleshing out the world and recontextualizing the OG story
But I've enjoyed it on its own too
I felt disconnected from MB’s narration in the books but seeing it in live action really helps ground it
Murderbot ||The Gurathin dynamic has been DELICIOUS||
Except for the reporting that it is losing a billion dollars a year and will probably not long survive if Apple ever hits a financial speed bump
Is there any streaming service not losing billions a year
I just watched the new Superman(2025) film, and it is very good. Superman is hopeful, loving, and is always saving humanity. He goes out of his way to minimize collateral damage and he doesn’t kill anybody. He is 100% Superman. And David Corenswet gives an excellent performance as Superman. Rachel Brosnahan is also amazing as Lois Lane. The entire cast does a great job overall. The filmmaking is beautiful at times, and I love the comic book visuals and cinematography that gives Superman a unique visual aesthetic in comparison to most other Superhero films.
Some minor spoilers.
||Now my only complaints is that there is too much humor and MCU dialogue. Sometimes it’s very funny, but it also feels too derivative at times. I also didn’t like how Superman’s biological parents were portrayed in this film. That wasn’t faithful to the comics and it kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.||
But overall, this is a damn good film. It is optimistic, joyful, and a very faithful depiction of who Superman is. James Gunn did a great job, and he is the best choice for almost any Superhero film. He also does a great job at juggling so many different superheroes and villains at once. My rating for Superman is an 8.5/10. It’s almost as good as the original Superman film.
Which is not a good sign
WE RIOT IF THEY TAKE SLOW HORSES AWAY
I take everything thing ive said in the past about them back, keep buying their dumbass phones people 🙏
It's almost like the subscription model is fundamentally flawed or something
LISTEN HERE TIM APPLE IF YOU KILL SLOW HORSES I WILL FIND YOU AND VOICE MY DISPLEASURE
Bruh Amazon prime has ads now
Microsoft Game Pass raises its eyebrow seductively
What am I even paying for 😭
To be advertised to
But the business geniuses all say that subscriptions are good and we need to do them for everything
This message is brought to you by the advertisement you need to watch before we start your car
Isn't it great how the way streaming killed DVD/Blu-Ray made everything but the most profitable movies completely nonviable and now streaming is also killing theaters
You joke but I can't hardly find a gas station that does not play ads during fill up anymore
but those guys who made streaming really convenient when no one else was doing it made boatloads of cash, so if we start streaming, we'll also make boatloads of cash
right?
This is business genius!!!!
For some reason, Slow Horses just keeps getting renewed. Which is great, because it’s such a good show. But it’s probably the best show that many people are not even watching. It just got an early S7 renewal.
I love living in a dystopia!
I'm sure being first to market and having a wide irreplicable catalogue of desirable exclusives had nothing to do with it
BECAUSE IT ROCKS AND APPLE AT LEAST WILL KEEP SHOWS THAT ROCK
It’s profitable in the sense that people buy stuff with two day shipping. But most who use Prime, are not even watching the shows and movies.
Wym who doesn’t love fragmentation!
What if cable but worse
It’s also cheaply made. Which really helps.
I meant prime video specifically but yeah
technically it's a bit better because everything's VOD
True. Only Netflix is making a profit, and they still lose money. Streaming is basically dead according to Disney.
amazing what happens when you make an actual tv show instead of trying to jam a high budget movie into 6 episodes
But let's just keep pumping out expensive original series
That’s Paramount +. 😂
I feel like if that's all you need, buying is a better idea
I was referring to the destruction of bundling. We now have to pay for 20 different streaming services who all think they’re worth $10 a month
There is bundling though
I mean…. Now
I’m Canadian… so for now it’s Netflix
Years after they destroyed the fundamental tv economy and lost billions of dollars
Cool!
I think most people only subscribe to 3 streaming services.
Because nobody is going to pay $15 a month for freaking amc+
I do. 😂
I have prime because it has some period dramas and I Claudius, Netflix for Star Trek, and Apple TV for Murderbot
But I’m in the minority. Most people don’t subscribe to AMC+. And I subscribe through Amazon Prime.
lol
Y’all remember the ridiculous DC streaming service that had the first season or two of Harley Quinn and doom patrol locked behind a ridiculous paywall
And that’s because the AMC+ app is terrible on its own. It’s way better on Amazon Prime, and the same goes for Paramount+.
Omg all the apps are terrible now
That app was terrible. I’m glad those shows got moved to HBO MAX. And HBO MAX is really great overall.
I swear everyone with ads is bugged on purpose so that you have to restart the ads and they put you through another ad break
AppleTV+ has gotten better as an app. And Amazon Prime is still a great app. Disney+ also got better, but Netflix has the best streaming quality in my opinion.
didn't that one also give access to the comics
I believe Prime and Apple TV both define “success” as getting viewers to buy their companies’ other products, so they don’t really care if the service itself loses money
Yes because hbo alone is one of the few media companies with enough quality stuff for it to be worth it
And don’t forget Peacock. That has got to be the worse name for any streaming service. 😂
Yeah and that part of the service is still around
And imo the DC Universe app is actually good (better than Marvel Unlimited)
-# Peacock has a lot of good stuff if you like reality tv and sports
Like I have watched more stuff on peacock these last few years than Netflix
Amazon and nbc/peacock leaning into sports is gonna be trouble for Netflix. I know they have a few nfl games but like…
Netflix is the only one and they only reached that relatively recently
Netflix is the only one whos customers see itself as a utility
Is YouTube profitable
yes
Amazon prime is a shipping subscription with a streaming service added on
yeah
So its seen as a utility
Though they did pad that by adding commercials if you don't pay the extra couple of bucks too.
Sure but the streaming service isn't the reason its profitable
the service itself is very much not profitable
Im not talking about profitableness
I am responding you you saying Netflix is the only one seen as a utility
yeah but the streaming it service is not the utility people would drop it if it wasn't for the other thing
I got Netflix for the first time in years this week, I reached a point where they were just doing originals and didn’t really have anything I wanted
It’s been alright, I god the ads version because I didn’t feel like paying that much, and at first there were very few ads but I guess the more you watch the more they hit you with
Which is fair I guess
They'll also hit you more on stuff they expect to be more popular
OMG THE MADLAD DID IT
That's incredible 🤣
MURDERBOT
Murderbot 1.10 ||Honestly. I like the show's ending better. WAY more heartwrenching to watch MB go through all that and everything PresAux had to do to get it back and STILL know how it was going to end because of course they couldn't change the ending. They just amped up the EMOTIONS like three hundred percent||
Mb 1.10 ||GURATHIN KNOWING ITS LEAVING AND GETTING A GOODBYE????
GURATHIN MICROWAVING HIS BRAIN FOR IT???? murderbot is the most ace/aro being in existence but it and gurathin invented romance, im sorry, these are facts||
||they didn't have to go that hard on this relationship but they DID 😩 ||
I saw superman
superman gen ||i think gunn knoced a bunch of creative decisions out of the park that I dont personally jive with, but the movie is a success on basically all fronts||
||it actually has themes!||
I’ll come back to this tomorrow
, I haven’t seen it yet
this channel is habitable so obviously you have not
Superman Specifics ||Is this the evil parent thing? I've seen a lot of discourse about that||
||no that was great tbh||
||i am talking about the specifics of some writing stuff that ultimately isnt a flaw||
||people who dont like evil supe parents are weak and flawed as individuals (i dont have social media i know what literally no one else thinks)||
||but i think it is fundamental to why the movie works||
supe all ||the fact supes parents suck make him an immigrant not a kryptonian ||
Ducky was it a good movie 👀👀
If it wasnt I have a contingency plan to give up on all Live Action DC movies for the next 5 years 🥰
superman spoilers ||Superman arrived on earth with a message from his bio parents essentially saying that he needed to be the protector of Earth and earthlings have great capacity but then the message cuts off due to damage. Lex Luthor manages to find the rest of the message which is Jor El telling Superman that the great capacity of earthlings is to have his babies and he needs to create a harem to continue the Kryptonite bloodline. ||
