hello, i just bought a new laptop which has 2x 1TB ssd's
in one of the SSD's there's windows already installed which i don't want to touch or do anything about
in the other SSD (currently D:) its fully empty, nothing there right now

i want to install Linux in the D:, i have a bootable pen drive with me

will the "erase all and install" erase the windows SSD or the empty SSD?

i don't want to do manual partitions as i don't know what size of the drive should i part for what purposes

i don't want to install alongside windows although i can, but i don't want to. i want to use separate SSD for windows and linux

please tell me step by step how do i do it without fucking up.

I'm willing to hop on a discord call as well if someone's willing to help right away. thank you.

Safest option is to remove the ssd with windows on it, then you can't fsck it up. If it's a modern laptop, then Mint may not be the most appropriate distro, as you might be wanting up to date kernel / mesa / firmware / etc. Fedora, or Arch-based may suit your hardware better.

For manual partitioning, you should probably only need one 512 MB or 1 GB vfat partition for your efi partition, then the rest of the disk can just be your root. The only split I would do beyond that if you wanted would be limit the root partition to 100 or 200 GB, then use the rest of the disk for /home.

i found this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0BLFJL6UlOE

if i follow this, should my other SSD remain unallocated or is it ok if its already initialized?

In the previous video, I showed how to dual boot Windows and Linux from just one SSD - where you have both Windows and Linux on the same drive separated by a partition.

A better way to dual boot Windows and Linux is to have each Operating System on its own separate drive. So in this video, I have installed a second SSD and I will be showing you...
