when i try to use fsck to debug, it gives me this
"fsck: fsck.iso9660 not found; ignore /dev/sdc"

The version of fsck doesn't support the iso9660 format.

Write protection is often a physical switch on the usb

And iso9660 is ostensibly a read-only format for CDs. How are you trying to format this drive
