This is sounding like swap is filled up. Not really enough info to say for sure.
that's interesting, since my swap 64G and I have 32G of physical ram
this is the first time I've used swap in a while, I could just boot a live cd and delete the swap right?
Are you unable to get into the machine at all?
oh it's working now
just had 5 or 6 lockups today
I'm looking through the wiki for the syntax to mask the swap
looks like systemctl mask dev-disk-by\x2duuid-0ac34787\x2d19f9\x2d434a\x2daad4\x2da3b8c43ce121.swap
did the trick
hopefully that's it
uh.
I'm not sure that did what you think it did?
Like, it may not be a swap thing if this is specifically a GPU lockup. It's entirely possible it's GPU memory being filled up or something.
Even if the swap was being used, masking the swap does exactly that. It doens't resolve whatever may have been filling up memory.
The root cause is still undetermined. It may be a program or application, or it may be a driver bug
I understand either way it's a learning experience
Keep an eye on something like nvtop or htop to try and observe what may be filling up
ya I'm using less than 3G of ram
so I can't see that being the problem
but maybe
discord on wayland is kinda funky too huh?
if I disable hw acceleration will that fix it I wonder...
no thanks worse, ah well that's a tomorrow problem
I was also trying nomachine as well, that could have been the issue?
How do I mark as solved?

ouff kwin window manager
desktop effects were restarted due to a graphics reset
I know we're marked as solved but I removed and reinstalled plasma and things seem to be okay now
