Did you also try the answer below it? Adding GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD="keep" to /etc/default/grub in addition?
do you have a dgpu in your laptop?
Well, not sure then. Perhaps a driver needs to be loaded for the full set of resolutions to be available. That is true about Nvidia cards, despite them reporting in grub that they can support larger resolutions.
I'm not sure how to do that sort of in-depth grub tinkering.
Check if your arbitrarily specified resolution is actually a mode that is supported via VESA BIOS Extensions,
