Fishing hasn't had a major update since the Living Rock Caverns in September 2009 that's over 15 years. The only new fishing content planned for 2026 is a single fish in the Havenhythe area, the Giant Crayfish at level 82. That's not enough. Here's why I think it's time for a real rework.
Fish Boxes
Add Fish Boxes following the same idea as Ore Boxes and Log Boxes. Simple concept: store more fish directly in your inventory so you can fish longer without running to the bank every few minutes.
Tools that actually scale with your level
Right now, most fishing tools give no real speed benefit. The main recent exception is the dragon harpoon, released in late 2025, which offers a +6% catch rate bonus but that's about it. It would make a lot more sense to have a full progression of tools tied to the game's material tiers (iron, steel, mithril, adamant, rune, etc.), each with meaningful bonuses: faster catch rate, double catch chance, reduced fatigue. Something that actually makes leveling the skill feel worthwhile.
Rework the fish levels and healing
The required levels for some fish should be revisited to better fit where the game is today. The healing from high-level fish is also pretty weak compared to other food sources it makes fishing almost irrelevant for serious PvM.
New fish starting from level 90, with proper healing values, unique effects, and situational bonuses would go a long way. Endgame players should actually have a reason to pick up their fishing rod again.
Rework the existing fishing areas
The Fishing Guild has been around since 2002 and barely changed. It does give a hidden +7 fishing boost and access to the Deep Sea Fishing Hub through Goomah, which is useful but the guild itself doesn't really have much unique to offer players who want to actually stick around.
Giving it exclusive content, refreshed mechanics and better rewards would make it a real destination again. The goal is for people to want to go there, not just pass through for the teleport.
This is based on my own experience with the game. I know not everyone feels the same way. But my goal is simple: make fishing more interesting and actually feel like a skill you're progressing through..
