#Summoning QOL - Spirit shard availability

Hmm adding spirit shards to drop tables or other rewards seems like unnecessary bloat to inventory space. Spirit shards are already directly convertible back and forth at summoning shops at a fixed rate of 1 shard:25 gp.

For all these proposed changes, I'd rather just get the equivalent gp drop to not waste an additional inventory space.

Yeah inventory space was one of my concerns but they are stackable

#

Idk if this is even a good idea, just a thought that it might make summoning seem less expansive. I definitely still think the amount from geodes should be increased, if nothing else

so I'm not convinced there's a problem with cost - at every stage, summoning xp can be had for <10gp/xp - but maybe there's a thematic case for replacing some gp drops with spirit shards

I’m just thinking it would be nice to be able to get them from other sources. That way it’s more available to people who have a play style that doesn’t earn them a lot, or lower level ironmen who need the advantage of a familiar to get into the gp earning parts of the game

#

In theory you can sell or alch almost everything you get from almost every activity, but in reality you want to keep those things because they’re useful to have. So you end up with the potential of a lot of gold but to early game players the items are more valuable. So I’m thinking that if spirit shards were in the same category as charms (meaning, things you get from all kinds of activities but they just sit in your bank because they’re going to be useful one day), then that would open up summoning to a new demographic.

#

The gp cost of other expensive skills can be mitigated by collecting the materials yourself and that should be an option for summoning. It will still be the same cost, but you can pay off that cost in different ways. I hope that makes sense

#

So I’m thinking that geodes should give you an amount of spirit shards equal to your summoning level, because just earning one for each geode seems like a waste of time and inventory space. Spirit shards are only useful if you’ve got lots of them and just one doesn’t feel like it’s worth keeping

yeah so I think spirit shards differ slightly from other resources in that they are literally just gp with extra steps and are changeable to and from a precise amount of gp very quickly. maybe you can simply remove them entirely now max cash has changed; if you improve access to spirit shards you are in some way creeping the amount of raw gp entering the game, but if you don't I'm not sure I see the point

I mean; their purpose is that they are a gold sink and adding them though alterative sources would reduce that.

I’d definitely be up for removing them entirely and just needing charms and the unique ingredient for summoning pouches, like in daemonheim

#

Currently I’m looking at them like ‘are they even necessary and if so why are they so restricted”

#

Or maybe we could just use gp directly in summoning pouches and free up some bank space

#

I think we need either a complete rework or increased availability of spirit shards to make summoning a skill that people actually use

#

Or, another idea that could get around my real problem with summoning: an npc that sells strange/gold rocks for the skills that you hate to train

#

Maybe the real problem is that I just don’t like spending money

#

But I’m also thinking that there should be a hunter creature or two that give spirit shards, like maybe a hedgehog with spirit shards instead of spines in Havenhythe

#

Maybe a way to exchange charms for shards?

#

Maybe I should change this post to “give us more shards from geodes”

#

The value of shards is way below anything else on the geode tables

#

If nobody has anything else to contribute to this within the next few hours I think I’ll take this down and make a “more spirit shards in geodes” post instead
