Dear Jagex,

I was doing some medieval research and found that weapons such as the javelin were not used by range focused infantry and were primarily used by footmen focused on close engagements on the battle field. The idea was wait for the enemy to get close then throw the javelin before drawing a second weapon such as a sword or spear and go into face to face combat. My question then is why is Javelin in the ranged combat category when it would be more beneficial for a melee focused category? Those who would use it more often are players armored for close engagements. I feel it would be a great way for players to have a better option when fighting flying enemies while still having the ability to fight those on the ground. Just a thought based on historical accuracy i how the javelin was used.

Respectfully,
Paladin

i think rs tries to keep things simple where any projectile is classified as a ranged weapon.
the base metal javelins do have a much shorter attack range, at 5.
