I think that one or two different howitzers on both factions could be a great idea with maybe on or two howitzers spawing on each side in conquest gamemode for example.
Maybe even a mobile version could be added with the hull of a tank and a long range turret. Furthermore it could be balanced with a long reload time for example and it could possibly use high explosive and amour penetrating ammo.

artillery doesn’t seem like it’d fit in battlebit, and probably would be insanely poorly balanced if added
It’s already been discussed to hell and back (cba to find the thread) but yeah iirc its confirmed to not have a place in bbr
i like artillery
each of way to make Artillery will bring many problems to the game nature.
Make it as static/mobile vehicle that player can use - well they will stay on safezone and farm kills. If make Artillery as static unit somewhere on objective or within map border with limited angles - that can work, but it going to be useless.
If make Artillery as a some kind of kill strike or ability for squad point -then it would be hard to move away from dangerous zone while you fighting in chaos warfare.
Even if make a bright orange smoke with loud sound like in War Thunder before final Artillery shots - it wont be enough to attract everyone attention to give player second chance before being wiped from nowhere and make player feel frustrated.
So for now there is no plans in Artillery. but in future there is a chance in stationary machineguns implementation on Battlebit maps.

artillery smoke and flares tho?
yea, if we will add some kind of artillery feature in squad buildable - then most likely we will add a Smoke artillery. No lethal but very impactful for fighto utcome.

I'm likely not the norm, but sitting somewhere to drop smoke and/or flares on SL marks would be fun, then again I like doing Logi/support roles that the average player might not want
Artillery and Smoke Screens is definetly something that would fit the Squad Leader Role. And you can also add a gadgets that warns on incoming Artillery strikes. It could also have a relatively small killzone with high damage + bleed in a larger area. And with high cooldown or squad point price could be balanced.
Or get a kill on direct impact at a small radius. That would actually be cool
