There are an assload of skin unlocks atm. Most of them are the same pattern multiple times with different colors which may or may not look horrid to you depending on taste.

My suggestion? Reorganize and consolidate skin unlocks into the following 4 categories:

  • Colors
  • Contains flat colors, gradients, highlights, the works.
  • Patterns
  • Contains the hexagon, animal print, and other similar patterns.
  • Materials
  • This one would be like the general material of the gun. So think wood, metal type, finish, shine, opacity, etc.
  • Models
  • This one would simply contain the different model options available to the gun.
    All 4 categories could have animated variants included in any of them. I.E.: rainbow color shifting, moving pattern, material that shifts when moving, etc.

I've included a visual example in the screenshots below for the imagination impaired.

These changes WOULD require us to be able to set all 4 of these categories individually on a gun, but I think that'd be a fantastic change to the skin system and would be more in line with what players expected when we got the major skin rework/update a bit ago.

These changes accomplish the following improvements:

  1. Reduce the amount of garbo unlocks and unlock requirements in general to a more reasonable amount for most people.
  2. Allow for more unique unlocks without bloating the list even further, or requiring 5000 kills to make your gun look kind of cool.
  3. Make customizing your gun like 4x faster (scientific consensus) because you know exactly where everything you want is instead of having to scroll through a horizontal list for the color/pattern combo of your dreams.
  4. Allow for better customization & personalization of your guns by allowing you to mix and match all the categories listed above. Truly making a gun yours.

I would also recommend adding more ways to unlock skins - such as individual gun challenges - to really make this system shine!

Something I thought about as the only counter to this would be "but then we'll be less unlocks".

Tbh, I would rather be less unlocks if it meant the unlocks gave me astronomically more value. 50 unlocks at reasonable kill requirements for each gun I think would be fine.

Keep in mind the colors or patterns sections could include them on different parts of the gun, the colors in different places, one color could be a red & green gradient, etc. There are options here if oki puts in the work

Theoretically, with the addition of materials and an extra model or two we should easily be able to each 100 unlocks per gun, which is more than enough imo.

This would probably mean the kill requirements would get lower, but I'm ok with that as they're literally just a time sync that encourages purposeful grinding in meat grinder servers.

Oh caveat on my cool graphical redesign. Obviously some UI stuff would have to be shifted around a bit, but even a two row grid across the screen would be better than the current one.

A nice qol addition to this would also be adding a "progression" section and a "next unlocks" spot so you know what to look forward to next and how many more kills you need. This would include both skins and attachments

Idk if expanding on these ideas is considered bumping lol, but I'll keep adding on to this as I think of stuff.

very good thoughts and ideas, nothing to add. It just improved the skin system by far.

Unfortunately, first we have to wait for such a necessary rework of sights and barely noticeable reshading of guns kittenCry
