There are an assload of skin unlocks atm. Most of them are the same pattern multiple times with different colors which may or may not look horrid to you depending on taste.
My suggestion? Reorganize and consolidate skin unlocks into the following 4 categories:
- Colors
- Contains flat colors, gradients, highlights, the works.
- Patterns
- Contains the hexagon, animal print, and other similar patterns.
- Materials
- This one would be like the general material of the gun. So think wood, metal type, finish, shine, opacity, etc.
- Models
- This one would simply contain the different model options available to the gun.
All 4 categories could have animated variants included in any of them. I.E.: rainbow color shifting, moving pattern, material that shifts when moving, etc.
I've included a visual example in the screenshots below for the imagination impaired.
These changes WOULD require us to be able to set all 4 of these categories individually on a gun, but I think that'd be a fantastic change to the skin system and would be more in line with what players expected when we got the major skin rework/update a bit ago.
These changes accomplish the following improvements:
- Reduce the amount of garbo unlocks and unlock requirements in general to a more reasonable amount for most people.
- Allow for more unique unlocks without bloating the list even further, or requiring 5000 kills to make your gun look kind of cool.
- Make customizing your gun like 4x faster (scientific consensus) because you know exactly where everything you want is instead of having to scroll through a horizontal list for the color/pattern combo of your dreams.
- Allow for better customization & personalization of your guns by allowing you to mix and match all the categories listed above. Truly making a gun yours.
I would also recommend adding more ways to unlock skins - such as individual gun challenges - to really make this system shine!
