Pretty much what the title says. This streamlining of the voting system should improve both mario kart and majority voting.

Why you should care:

  • It'll make the game more fun.
  • It'll speed up the voting screen.
  • It'll give you more variety, but not take away your freedom of choice πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ πŸ¦… πŸ¦… πŸ¦… gunreal
  • Gambling is still available. 🎰

I'd say to do the following:

  • Have it so we vote for a map, gamemode, and time of day together.
    • Example: Waki om Conquest during the Day.
    • Have at least one day option always appear until night is improved.
    • This speeds up the voting process immensely and encourages people to get out of their comfort zone sometimes in a non-intrusive/non-forceful way.
  • Reduce voting choices down to 3 slots by default with a refresh option that only appears once.
    • This makes it so choosing an option is nice and fast and if everyone wants they can go for a refresh.
    • This will help prevent a map or gamemode from appearing every vote - ideally.
    • Let servers choose if modes/maps can appear multiple times per vote slot, or if each slot is unique. Allow customization.
  • Make it so each time a map/gamemode is chosen they both have reduced chances of appearing again in the next vote.
    • Specifically the mode and map both have reduced chances, not the specific combination chosen. So not the combo of "waki + conquest", but instead "waki" and "conquest" individually.
    • Increase the map & mode appearance chances when they aren't chosen until they're back up to the baseline chances. Ideally if not picked 1-4 times (scale differently for maps & modes) they should be back to baseline chances.
    • This solves the cycle/loop of choosing conquest -> inf-conq/dom -> conquest while still preventing constant voting of the same maps/modes.

This should make the end of game voting screen go a good bit faster, and provide variety while not removing either voting style. Win win for everyone imo.

This voting system is primarily inspired by games like OG halo reach and such

The ways you could probably fuck this up easily are as follows:

  • Not enough maps in the server pool
  • Not enough game modes in the server pool
  • Odds of things appearing being wack

All of these can luckily be tuned and adjusted without having to shred up the voting system and make another new one. Ideally this system I've suggested is both democratic, fair, and still provides variety

Halo reach would have the issue of some maps being picked immediately, or never getting picked. That's still an issue with BBR how it currently is - in fact it's worse. However in Halo reach it wasn't that major an issue because sometimes the popular mode/map just wouldn't be available, and the pool was wide enough in most playlists that it kind of just wasn't an issue eventually as maps were added.

If a game like halo reach used this system to great success, I don't really see why it would kill this game at all. The maps that get selected currently are random. This just ties game mode into that system as well. IMO you could mix this with different official server types as well

SO for example, you could have a conquest type server that has all the conquest types, or a push server that has frontline, rush, and invasion

Exactly. It takes away players ability to sculpt a game with the voting for something already pregenerated completely random. You are litterally "voting" on a randomly generated combonation when right now you can vote for your own combination of gamemode, map, day/night.

Personally, I think having that option on community servers would be great. But for the main servers, and when there's 200+ people and only about 40-60 people vote every time, I'd prefer to have some variety injected in a way that still respects player choice.

I haven't played CTF, frontline, invasion, etc in forever. And when we do ge them it IMMEDIATELY goes back to conquest usually. Sometimes you can get a few frontline chains in a row, but that is RARE currently

With the system I'm proposing - which has literally been used in one of the most popular halo games (halo reach) - it'd allow for the variety I want with the respect of choice you want. It's still majority vote, and ideally it'd be tuned to still feel good and.

Conquest could appear multiple times in a row, ideally the chance for it to appear would never hit 0%. You can hit refresh to try to get conquest again.

Oki could also make it so each choice is its own game mode and modes can't get repeated possibly. My point is there's tuning that can be done here to ensure that player choice can still be respected.

Currently, maps are pretty much like this. This system actually gives you MORE choices in your maps as well because the random option will be replaced with the refresh option.

I personally don't mind if every option is invasion and has to be refreshed, but it'd probably be good to make it so each option is its own unique game mode and map

Kind of a necro bump, but I'm seeing a few posts about map voting again. I wanted to highlight this solution again because I do believe it's the best of both worlds for the official servers. Let customs do whatever though. Vote on every map at once for all I care on customs.

As the game slowly bleeds players, the need for a solution like this is VERY evident. I think everyone can agree that on official servers (as in oki servers) this would be a good way to ensure a bit of variety so both new and returning players can get the most out of the game.
