Post monthly update logs to steam similar to games like Project Zomboid!

I think it would help the playerbase out a lot and remind people the game exists if we got monthly dev logs like Zomboid does on what's being worked on. It'll also give a consistent source of information for everyone in the community! I think it'd be better than only using the devcast for this stuff too.

They don't have to be crazy or anything, Zomboid is a bit of a special case, but I think that kind of communication and transparency would go a long way towards building back community trust and building back the interest of players who don't check the discord often. It'll be better than dropping an update suddenly that may not even appear on your steam news bar thing in your library.

Tbh if every game dev was as transparent as the Zomboid devs I think that'd be perfect. They really are the gold standard for showing what's going on. Update 42 for Zomboid has taken literal years, but seeing all the update logs that pop up on steam sometimes for me really gets me hyped and keeps the game in my mind as I wait for update 42

Zomboid is single player as well as coop, so it's a little different, but you get the idea.

The update logs could totally just be whatever you've already posted btw in the discord, but grouped up into a neat post with perhaps a little more detail for people who care about that stuff (I eat up technical details)

The devcast really should not be treated as a substitute for proper communication with the playerbase for sure. Especially on steam where they aren't even posted.

Steam dicusssions are only helpful for old games tbh. They'll usually have the bug fixes in there lol

there is literally a conspiracy on the steam forums that invasion and outskirts were forced on every official server 24/7 for a few weeks and no one was able to play anything else because the system was rigged

when the only actual reason was the conqtards seeing "New!" on both things and clicking them right away

But the average player doesnt interact with the greater community at all, not even steam discussions. An "Official" patch notes in the store page would be so nice, even for veterans who want to see patch history

They are redoing a lot of things. It can sound many things to people when you just post small updates from time to time

I fucking hate the way the finals devs communicate

It's like just enough info the be like "leave us alone", but not enough to feel like they're actually concerned

their patch notes are infuriating as well because they'd often NOT include changes that were made. I think they've gotten better about this though

This post is still relevant, especially so now that the anni was missed

I would recommend moving forward once the update is out (since y'all are dead-set on that being the only time solid communication will come for now) to be explicitly clear about the communication changes you will be making

To be clear, I'm not saying with this post that you NEED to post updates you commit to, I'm just saying to post monthly updates about what's going on to steam. It keeps players like me invested quite a bit. I tend to watch steam news updates for games when I see them so I know when a new update will drop, what to expect, etc.

Some people are pissed at Project Zomboid that the update is taking forever, but most are simply excited for it and love seeing the steady updates like me. So if you're going for longer update cycles I do recommend this strat.
