It's been months, and the anticipation is turning into frustration.
The developers' social media teases and the occasional breadcrumb of an update in the forums have been the only lifelines keeping the community's hope afloat. Discussions and speculations fill the forums, each thread a mix of excitement and exasperation. It's a testament to the game's impact, how eagerly we await any scrap of news.
But as days turn to weeks, and weeks to months, patience wears thin. The silence becomes louder, and the lack of communication grows frustrating. It's not just about wanting the update anymore; it's about the feeling of being left in the dark, the growing fear that the update might not live up to the mounting expectations, or worse, face indefinite delays.
I find myself checking for updates more out of habit than hope now...
#Setting a date for the update is necessary at this point...

They previously attempted to set dates which were not met, which was met with additional crys of "incompetent devs". If you dont have a reasonable eta, dont provide it.
Maybe update of the update-progression graphic:

coming soon
True, but if you don't know and say you need time, give yourself an extra month in advance
Larry and terminal are both traveling this week, so theres no dev cast, but there will be another one on the 30th. Larry has been doing weekly streams where he literally works on the models for the coming patch, terminal talks about pending changes in discord and on stream.
I also want patchie, but ive been on the other side of pending fixes and changes and a delay or lack of eta isnt for fun or to string people along, generally there just isnt a better answer.
Yeah and the more it is said, The more people become inpatient and ask for time frames.
Terminal said he would discuss it with larry yesterday. Nothing since then
Bet
#battlebit-eng message wuhpow
One of the reasons it wasnt met iirc was cause according to termy the scope of the update just kept expanding
Dayyum
Scope creep my beloved
Like they went to do like a sound patch, which takes time since they hired someone to do it for them
And there were delays? Idk
My current understanding is a third party was paid to record all the sounds and they happened to be complete right at the end of the year. That landed right along side the business restructure because they had to make fundamental changes.
Then they realised they needed better animations for said sounds
And it just kept going
Then oki had to figure out how to make the game performe with that many sounds, then the animations really didnt fit anymore.
Ontop of all the other previously planned content and changes. I aint no fortune teller, but my guess is this will be one of the largest stints witho out changes for bbr for a very long time.
One thing i never understood is why did Oki made sound changes...right before implementing and changing the sound from what that company gave him
my blind guess is, he didnt know other wise he wouldnt have spent the time
if that is true then that is bad
Yeah, its not a great situation for anyone
But the latest sound changes were controversial to say the least
Like the FaceIt AC which never came and people exploited EAC bans by using perms which should never be allowed and should have never happened.
They were, and oki has been very transparent that he fucked up
Also why does BBR not issue Steam gamebans? Might as well mark their profile
I know nothing about that radio bunny, but it sure sounds like a lot of conjecture to me.
Something in my brain says thats been asked to the devs and i dont exactly remember why not. Imma save that for the next dev stream to ask
The EAC exploit has happened and I brought it up to T&S yesturday
are you referring the two players who had cheats activated in algs? If so, that is a very different situation than an EAC exploit
EAC and Epic Games have confirmed they do not see any rce risks in the software, while respawn has pushed additional security changes out. Nothing points to an eac risk at this time
Shut up
i personally think their goals need to be more realistic considering the dev team size, you cant just eat an apple in a single bite
Agreed
Because I feel like avoiding work. What do you view their current goals to be and how do you know that? I disagree with the "be more realistic" statment, but, i mean its a suggestion thread, its all conjecture and random shitpostin anyway
Doesn't Larry do models and Vil maps? I think they both put out things at a reasonable rate. Oki seems to be the bottleneck, so I'm not sure how much sense it makes to talk about "their" goals.
perhaps i didnt say it in a clear way, what i mean is, when you want to do something that would take months while you could still work on it while at the same time updating the game with small updates, could have solved this issue, im not saying they arent doint a great job, what im saying is, perhaps next time it should be different 🙂
Which things? The one Oki or Larry is doing???
At very least give us a list of what's happening and how far along each item is. It's the lack of communication that sucks most. Taking the time needed is fine, being in the dark is not.
You don't understand brother, it's difficult to program the most innovative thing in this update, the DOORS
To be fair adding doors is a bit more complicated than it may seem
Like sure i dont think just adding them is that hard, but ya gotta make sure that gamebreaking shit does not happen with them
On the other hand, maybe doors only took a day or two and the actual sound system and animation system are heavily taxing
Well it was confirmed that both sounds and animations are taxing
Maybe doors are too
Idk
bruh I had forgotten about that 💀 man's truly playing an entirely different game if he thinks that would fit at all
C4 to the house and bye bye door
yeah I already chuck C4 every time a wall gets in my way anyway, doors are gonna be relevant for all of 30 seconds at the start of every match lol
Well that is not something new, since it is a shooter that until recently it was not known if it was going to be arcade or realistic, and since Oki clarified that doubt, it has not made any significant changes to the gameplay haha
I'd guess sound update is a big hassle and is taking most the time. idk what's even happening with animations
Koko, another 2-4 weeks should do 🤡
That isnt the update ETA
thats what i was told 2 months ago xD
This
And that's why you don't give an eta you can't meet
I didn't get into the feedback team, so I would like an update's update at least as consolation smh
But yea no, going from updates every other week to no updates for a few months was kind of wack. Knowing oki the game will probably play completely differently lol
Hopefully it's just a bunch of major content that isn't broken and is fun to mess with
they haven't sent emails
yet
I think
Who needs a feedback team when they can just make polls in #battlebit-eng 😛
Oh, they already chose?
They have not, last terminal spoke on the topic there would be rejection and acception emails set out, so no guessing.
No idea lmao
Its taking them a hot minute for sure
Same.
a git commit log would also be cool, even hide the messages or whatever, just tell me how much commits have been made since the last update
or a gitkraken timeline
Literally anything is better than what we've got
mid february, mid march, mid april... could also be mid october at this point xD
Tbh they wouldnt have put up an announcement in the game itself this time if they werent sure
i didnt see tho, where should i look ?
If only every fucking thing else did the same
pretty sure it does, or at least is supposed to
disappears after first x
Yep after people complained about no update, they finally did it
I think releasing it any time after january would've been "after people complained about no update"
I wanna say it's more that they're close enough to being done that mid april is guaranteed
It's not the wait that's frustrating for me, it's knowing that they have completed features ready to deploy, but they're being held back because oki made the decision to deploy everything at once
and there are plenty of others who'd nitpick at every detail if the update came out early and sparse
Namely if the sounds came by their own

personally idgaf, I just wanted to know about what changes are coming in more detail - or get to fuck around with them early and give feedback before they inevitably go live and are buggy af
I mean they have mentioned that there will be like playtests before it goes live
Like a week or some before it is actually out
To my knowledge they havent backed outta that so far
We'll see, we'll see
Good, that's why we're here. That's why we paid for early access, so that we can provide criticism
that's why you paid for early access
but not the guy who got a refund after 127 hours because the terms of service changed
regardless criticism isn't bad
when it's criticism
and not just complaining for the sake of complaining
unless you want to tell me that not being able to say the n word is a a valid criticism
Surely something gamebreaking or similar won't be found
I think for game of this size it's better to drop bigger updates less frequently than smaller ones every month or so. That way devs can take their time to polish everything to level they're happy with, and not get distracted by issues that happens with rushed and more frequent updates.
This is also better for marketing, as content creators are more likely to try those big updates than smaller ones.
Speaking about these big content creators that helped the game during the release.
I the previous update schedule was a little too fast, but now it's a little too long. Really the problem is we somehow get stuck with weird game problems for the longest time
Like I remember support's ammo refill was a bit wack to use when it first came out, but it felt like it was there forever lol. We've been stuck with this bad sound system for a bit. Etc
The whole thing with voting
Yeah tbf I'm surprised sound system hasn't been reverted ever since it was released. Anyway, we're getting a new one soon and I'm excited about it.
And because we've been stuck with the current one for a while now, the update will only be much more appreciated.
What's wrong with voting though? I don't see much of a difference compared to one we had on day 1.
(I mean, there is much room for improvement with the current one, just didn't know they changed it to be "worse")
it just got kinda wack for a bit lol
It wasn't changed to be worse per say, but they weren't accounting for some obvious stuff that led to issues
Like random going through every map in the game, including the ones in the vote
Night mode still being busted is a crime imo too
I'm excited for some new changes finally, but hopefully they acutally use that testing system
I guess you're right then. I personally don't mind this system staying as is, or being improved/changed. I usually just leave the game when map I don't like is selected.
This is the problem though, people keep voting on the same maps over and over again, and while it's good thing that players can technically choose what map they want to play next, this makes some maps never being chosen. Same thing for night mode.
Maybe they could improve voting system by making it 3-step, rather than 2-step, and by NOT showing player what options have been chosen until the next round starts.
- Selecting game mode
- Selecting map
- Selecting mode (day/night)
I don't know if that's going to make things better or worse - you never know. Anyway, prototyping such systems with the feedback team, and later with testers would definitely help with design a lot.
Long while
I think Daft Punk made a song about it in their Discovery album
.
Maybe a roadmap listing all the stuff they would change in the update and showing us what has been completed and whats not?
