#Recolor friendly equipment (e.g. mines, rally points) so that I can stop griefing on accident

fig. 1: a shamelessly ripped from the internet image of an antipersonnel mine, edited for 15,000 hours in MS Paint as proof of concept.

I've had way too many instances over my time in this game where I see a line of mines some 50-100 meters away.

Being a good Samaritan who likes to keep my friends from going in the forever box, I like to shoot mines that I find so that they don't kill anyone, and net that 200 point bonus yall so helpfully added to encourage this behavior.

Imagine my horror, then, when the mines go boom and no hitmarker or points bonus comes up. Someone on my team dedicated their life's work to that line of mines and I just ruined their trap because I couldn't see the single pixel of green that was supposed to mark their location.

I would be banned from this game and charged with treason if the true number of these incidents came to life, so I will not elaborate further, but the fact is that this has been a persistent problem. Based completely off of my extensive research on the subject and not at all conjecture, I'd say that the ultimate fate of most mines is to be blown up by someone's own teammate who thought they were clearing an enemy mine.

I've also heard this situation come up with other equipment, like TROPHY, Rally points, and such.

My solution for this is simple: Based on which team is friendly relative to you, all equipment is colored either in a light olive scheme or a black scheme. This means that if you're US, all RU equipment appears black and all US equipment appears light olive, and vise versa. Given that most equipment is already black or dark olive, I think this wouldn't fundamentally shift the balance of these gadgets, and would only serve to prevent friendly fire incidents.

This way, you can tell simply at a glance whether a piece of equipment is friendly or enemy, and I can stop accidentally griefing my team when I'm just trying to help. Would be nice...

they already have a marker
and if mines are out in the open, in an obious line no less
your mates will see them

I guess maybe make the marker bigger or more obvious?

They alredy have marker, but it definitely should be bigger and more noticable when you're looking directly at it

the marker is gone when you are more than 2m away from it

and there are situations where even when it's a proper size it's still hard to spot

#

APCs, for example, are functionally red-green colorblind and the markers tend to blur into the gadget (a particular problem with rally points)

yeah ik, no need for huge goofy looking markers and colorful mines tho...

making the marker more obvious is an option but that just creates a visual clutter

#

"colorful" mines is kinda nonsense, olive is a super common color scheme for mines

#

yknow, since the ground tends to be green

#

i can't tell you how many times ive looked at a mine and had to squint to see the literal single pixel of green that marks it as friendly

And make the cone quite small

the markers are wholly ineffective especially if you're not specifically looking for it

#

that sounds like a lot of processing overhead though

The marker should show at greater distances if you specifically aim directly at the mine/equipment.

Don't feel bad about shooting the allied mines, for every time I've been killed or delayed by a mine, I've gotten a sick multi-kill by shooting an enemy's mine.

I did got one where I shot a rocket and hit a landmine kill instead

Boggles the mind when someone lays there behind their own mine like it won't blow up the enemy and themselves up. It also boggles the mind when someone will lay a mine right next to all their buddies and just stand there with them. I intentionally blow teammate mines up when I see them as a multi-kill machine.

Remember when mines could actually give you friendly kills if you shot it or would kill you when a teammate shot it.

you wouldn't have to aim specifically at an olive mine - once you understand that friendly mines are olive you can just tell even if you spot it in the periphery

#

why add the unnecessary step of having to aim specifically at it
