Been playing APCs a decent bit. Love it, really. I like running around with the cannon and trying to exploit a flank. Does it's job well enough for the most part...
Except for a couple little issues. The first being a lack of secondary armament, which I've heard tell is supposed to eventually arrive as a coax MG. Makes those 7 second reloads scary. Not really the issue at hand, though, since that obviously takes a lot of dev work.
No, see, the issue I'm taking here, cause it's simple to fix, is that APCs are fuckin anemic. They have absolutely zero low end grunt. You hit W and it's a legit 2 second delay until you're appreciably scooting.
This seems logical - big heavy truck don't move so quick. Sure, given.
However, that problem doesn't just extend to trying to pull out from a stationary, level position. It also causes a lot of problems on uneven terrain, particularly small divots and ditches which have a tendency to snare passing vehicles.
If you, say, are on RU side of Sandysunset at any point, you'll see what I mean. Ground that is, granted, tricky to traverse for the lighter Humvees becomes completely impassable for APCs, whose lack of low end grunt means they can easily become stuck on map geometry for minutes at a time before the driver finally gets enough momentum in it to get it to power over the crest.
The lack of power is so bad that in many cases an APC can actually be outrun by an infantryman. It's like someone left it in 4 High all the time. It also makes evasive maneuvering a pain since hitting anything, your fault or no, means you're effectively immobilized for many seconds.
My suggestion is simple: APCs need to be given better low speed acceleration for use in getting going. Significantly so. They don't need to be the unstoppable overland monsters tanks are, since you trade a lot of stealth for that, but they really should be able to kick it down a gear and lurch up rough terrain or steep slopes. Possibly with little control and a lot of noise. That'd be fun. At the very least, they should be able to crawl out of any hole a Humvee can. Thems my thoughts.
