Releasing all the controls means basically releasing the wheel. This means you can't control the vehicle anymore, but your hands are free to hold up a sidearm, grenade, or detonator.
This would make it so people who are driving a vehicle solo aren't completely helpless on a vehicle, and also it would help people like me a lot (I strap C4s onto ATVs and drive it into tanks)

Getting out of the vehicle is instant and allows you to survive the explosion if you put c4 and detonated it while the car is still moving. I feel like being able to detonate in the car would be much more realistic and also it would 100% kill the driver

I don't think its too op when you can already just get out of the vehicle instantly and start shooting back. Also you cant really control where you're going if you let go of the controls and its hard enough to shoot from a moving vehicle as opposed to shooting a moving vehicle. It's really only the driver at a disadvantage here.

id imagine being able to pull out a sidearm or something by sacrificing control of the car would be much more realistic than instantly teleporting out of the car
also just seeing how op it is to kamikaze with a car and still survive because getting out is instant

true but that's not really what you were asking, nor is it what you are addressing. drawing a pistol out and retain some control would be fine if the exit of vehicles was far slower, or rather had an animation because I believe there is some delay to exit
