Medic can heal, Support can supply, Engineer can blow things up, Recon can snipe, Assault can ?

Truth is, Assault does nothing special that justifies it being its own separate class. All the class gets is generic stat buffs.

I suggest that it is either removed/merged with other classes, or given some kind of unique element that separates it from other classes, such as special breaching equipment or something that enhances the run and gun style gameplay.

Assault needs more breaching and explosive capabilities that don’t belong on medic or support. They have an opportunity for new gadgets and throwables here depending on if they implement artillery/air strikes

kind of a rant, but also an opportunity to post my thoughts while on this subject, i always hate it how the "assault" class in most squad/team/role play shooters is designed to either get generic stat buffs or equipment that help only they themselves move faster - essentially the solo, easy-to-pick up role that either falls behind the medic role if it does not have self sustainability or becomes extremely meta because of its nature.
I've always liked to imagine an assault role designed around helping their team essentially bypass obstacles.
for example, giving them equipment a simple ladder that stands and falls forward to double as a bridge, a zip line, a supply drop that spawns a small transport vehicle, a supply box containing parachutes/wingsuits, etc, etc.
TLDR: a class/role that promises to be more effective causes more imbalance/controversy and i wish someone will come up with a more creative and less selfish design for the assault role.

I think the buffs are fairly helpful without being overkill. Riot shield is underused but is nice... I'd like to see them have more of a niche for sure, like having more supportive actions for their team somehow. Dunno what that would be

less explosives yeah, Engy could Keep RPG and AT mines. c4 maybe be split into 2-3 different gadgets? small one that works like it does now but less damage to vehicles and players(same blast radius, a second one that is good against light and ok against medium vehicles but is far slower to throw and you carry less)

c4 is just a generation of explosive, just change the size and total damage and split it into two. a breaching charge that works on walls and maybe people, and one that is ok vs armor that is a heavy gadget that you carry less off. breaching charges go to the others, Engy and Assault get the big one.

General health buff, front shots do 0.4x DMG turret sides do regular DMG and hull sides 2x DMG. Rear hull shots would knock out the engine but nothing else

I think rebalancing other classes to give assault a better identity is going to make assault too powerful and it will make no sense to play any other class. Buffing / fixing riot shield is a good idea though, or giving them a new class specific tool.

while on the topic of buffing the items assualt class can use fixing the grappling hook so that it goes over rocks because sometimes you shoot is in the wrong place and it just is way out of reach and becomes a very shot rope

also riot sheild is incredibly useless right now most you can really do with it if you have a dedicated squad mate that puts c4 on your side and blows it up when you call out

we want class identity. a medic plays medic, not tank hunter. sniper/recon does recon and also not a tank hunter. if we want wall breaching tools we need a breaching charge that the other classes can use that blows open walls but does far less damage that what we have. We can then add class specific gadgets for their job down the line, different ammo boxes, different types of first aid and healing, and similar. the c4 we have now if changed should also be a heavy gadget to ower how much spam there is. Grenade trophy also blocking flyc4 should also be a thing.

As it stands now every utility explosive has a place. C4 can do some things that APMs cant and vice versa. The only one that doesnt is claymores which just kinda suck now im pretty sure.

Yeah, a class needs to be able to do what the class is meant to do. And not double dip into another classes style. C4 is ok, it needs changes, but the ability for every class to carry it needs to go. So stop wanting every class to be the same.

I think every class should have different things that it excels at, not one specific role that it is forced to fill.

POE's class system is a perfect example of this. Every class can use any weapon and any piece of gear as long as they have the attribute requirements. The only thing that makes certain classes better for certain builds is their position on the skill tree and ascendency.

A medic has a hundred times less chance to kill a tank than an engineer though, it has to be a sneaky medic plus very unaware tank combination. Thus making engineers being best at tank killing by far.

As a medic or assault I usually just ignore the vehicles and leave them to engineers to take out, because it's too much effort for little reward compared to just fragging people.

Yeah I agree and I think vehicles are not in a good spot right now because they are too easy target to eliminate in general, that is why I never use vehicles outside of transport. Taking away C4 from certain classes would mean that nobody would want to play those classes.

I personally could not care less if my C4 as medic or assault does not damage heavy armored targets, I just want to frag people and breach walls

just because shere quanitity. I'm not saying it needs to do 10 damage per, but less damage in the explosives radius would make it be a tool for blowing walls open, a breaching charge, but not necessarily something meant to kill people, like a breaching charge.

as for the class because with everyone carrying at least 3 but more likely 5-6 you can throw all 6 in less than 1.5 seconds at two seconds all 6 will be on the ground and explode, which defeats the point of a damage limit, which was the previous way to nerf explosives as a catchall.
