I think this would add a lot of immersion to the communication in this game.

For example, you have a squad of enemies in a house and all their voices are muffled slightly. It would be an easier way of figuring out where they are.

Also adding a small echo in some big rooms/areas would help as well.

Honestly this would be big.

Look at how well a game like lethal company has implemented something like this.

This could easily be done by checking if a player is within an “echo” zone, then applying an echo to their voice.
