#Rebalance the 3D spotting mechanic

The problem with this new feature is, walhacks, yea I'm not kidding, the ping is very visible and can be visible through walls and smokes.

In order to balance that I propose:

  • Ping only needs to be visible to your squad.
  • Make drones black, the drones can be one of the hardest things to hit, and many people never see the drone because they're gray, if you make them black, is easy view one flying on the sky making contrast with the environment.
  • Drone camera glint, make a little red glint when the drone is seeing you. Make a circle in the drone hud marking the glint area.
  • Make drones pingueable.
  • Make walls and smoke grenades significantly reduce ping opacity some like (1.0 to 0.2)
  • Ping transparency depends on distance.

Limiting pings is a good idea.

Pings visible to squad + limit of pings might be too severe.

Drones being more visible is valid. They are very hard to spot at the ceiling in certain sky boxes imo.

Idk about glint on drones. Glint on everything is becoming a meme at this point. Does not seem like the solution.

Pingable or spottable drones..? Sure why not.

I have no idea if this is possible. But my only suggestion would allow for smoke to remove being spotted.

I still think the combination of limiting + squad only would not be ideal. But hey if other people do I am all for it.

Because in every map there are like 5 to 10 snipers with the drones

I tested it out one night over several games I was averaging 20k-60k in +50 spots per game. Seemingly influencng 400 ticket behind games to end up in a win.

Was a joy to watch people try to flank or clown car spawn I ping them and it all falls apart lol

But yeah even a very reserved 20,000 points of +50 spots

is a 300-500 ticket influence on the game assuming no revives (also keep in mind I am only one recon lol)

In a metagame sense for this casual arcade shooter though it could then just be meta for any recon to run drone and ping for their squad.

We could limit to squad only and reduce the time of drone spots. That would be enough imo.

The problem lies in the excessive power of 3d spotting. It shouldn't be something that every class can use without restrictions, and the 12s duration given by Oki to the drone only exacerbates this issue

The pings should only be seen via LOS not through walls. But maybe just fellow squad members get the benefit of 3D spotting where as whole team just gets the LOS or “last seen” dorito

Maybe instead of giving the drone glint the range that the drone can ping from is reduced. Like right now I think you can sit at 200m away in the sky and ping people. Maybe make it so you have to be within 100m

give us back old ping system. make 3d spotting exclusive to the recon and leader class. apply proximity limits to visibility (maybe like 100-200m from the spotter or the enemies spotted). done.
Benefits:

  • gives a unique role to play for both leader and recon with recon being strong at longer range and leader being more versatile than recon.
  • natural seamless teamplay between squads where leader/recon have the role of confirming enemy locations.
  • less screen clutter
  • removes what is arguable a chore to other playstyles and adds what should be a significant role for other classes.
