#Hand Gestures/Silent Communication

text chat?
squad chat aswell
No they can here you locally when you use squad voice chat.
Unless you mean squad text chat, then my bad.
Imagine a “free hand” mode. No fingers makes it funnier
Or if you whisper in “local” VoIP under a certain volume your username doesn’t show in the corner.
Whisper is a good alternative. Text chat is impractical in a gaming sense. Its like making the arguement " get on discord" I was thinking very simple ideas for hands because we dont have fingers. Point up down sideways, toward yourself, toward your eye things like that
If you're squad leader => you have a lot of new ping for your squadmate => Move here / Attack / Defend / Observe.
I wish these ping were also free for anyone 💀
Also, squad voip is a thing
How impractical is text really? Sure it's less useful in a firefight than voice, but at that point you wouldn't be using whisper either. Obviously it does take you out of the fight for a bit, but for what, a second or two?
You can still hear squad voip in the local area. Pings would be another good suggestion for silent communication. Hand gesture is just the milsim option for when they wanted to go down that path
you sure about that?
to make this happened we would need a higher poly hands to do that.
I think your second idea of whispering could be nice, but the current way even if you whisper people will still hear you from the same distance
I think whispering could work if voip soundspread radius would be dynamic tied to the decibels you outputting, that would make whispering possible but also make shouting also possible, which is kinda cool
Guys this might sound crazy…but what if there was sound recognition and when you said certain words or phrases like “hold” or “advance” your player performed the hand gesture
So you don’t need to use your hands
Who's gonna use and pay attention to gestures? No one, not even yourself
Pretty good to touch someone's pp while waiting for the game to start
Or after killing them
What if gestures were voice controlled by utilizing Windows’ built in voice to text software. This sounds super easy to add. Simply activate voice to text Windows hotkey, then if the game detects the word “hold/advance/on me/etc” typed in, it performs that very simple gesture.
So while you're talking the game makes all kinds of random gestures, or you angrily repeat it 10 times because it's not picking it up 🤣
To avoid false positives have the option to opt out of specific gestures you don’t use. And prompt the user after a word is detected saying “click Alt to gesture hold/advance/on me/etc.”
Or even further than that, you can treat voice gesture control like a separate VoiP channel where you must hold a button down for it to work.
It's a solution in search of a problem that will never exist, because no one will pay attention to see if you're making gestures. People don't even react to the 2D pings.
You talk like you’ve used voice controlled gestures before. I disagree. Ease of use will mean more people use it tactically. Mil sim mode would be so fun with this.
Ever played Radio General?
No actually, but I found this neat app: https://store.steampowered.com/app/583010/VoiceAttack/

The thing is, it’s entirely optional. Radio General requires it.
And it works really bad
Despite being specifically made for it
There's no plug and play solution that would work good out of the box, it needs development time and experienced enough people on a pointless feature that no one will care about
My suggestion above is to outsource that part. And the only development’s needed is to detect when a word is typed in instantly.
I could probably…maybe implement it. Lol
Please Oki, at least try it? It’s immersive like helicopter crashes
This was a thread about ways to introduce a form of silent communication. When did we get involved with TTS macros that require voice(in game or out of game)
Just hook something up to hotkeys and one of those fancy little wheels they just designed and its at your finger-blocks(funny joke for battlebit avatars)
You wouldnt use them very often most likely would still be nice to have for flanking squads to be able to use some form of symbolizm to communicate within earshot of enemy
We have no hands. So the only real solution is more ping option.
