Uncomfortable.
It is impossible to put marks while in the scope. The process itself takes a very long time.
You drop the tags, give the information and run on. It's not like that now. Everyone has stopped using them altogether.
It's very inconvenient.

Why is the drone issue being ignored? You have to find some niche for them, and in my opinion it's obvious that the drone should be RECON tool, as a reconnaissance device, observing enemy clusters in real time, and "crashing" large fronts. And if the team doesn't have a drone, then the team will lose average effectiveness. No one loses anything if the Recons become a strong pillar of any match.
the new wheel menu combining everything is literally the worst usability issue the game has now. everything feels, slow, clunky, unresponsive and just awful. the change nobody wanted and nobody needed
That is not what's being asked-
I like spotting a lot, especially on recon in a good spot it's super fun to the the funny red doritos fall over, it just needs to be more consistent
Sometimes I can look at a guy and it won't mark him, other times I accidentally mark a guy that isn't even in my scope behind some leaves.
3d spotting duration is too short and you need to seeminly be looking right at them to spot - in that situation, wouldn't you rather just shoot? Furthermore the size of the dot is too small. It's like the same as the red light on their helmut.
I absolute LOVE is that they get marked on the map - this adds a huge ammount of information to the player and can help snuff out RATS hiding around and contesting home objectives. I would like a 3d spotting to be say, 8 seconds but their red arrow icon to last a lot longer on the map. 16 seconds or even more would be awesome.
As for static red and white pings - you have utterly destroyed this system. I relied on this HEAVILY with my squad and now where having difficulty finding targets. Having to use visual descriptions over the mic rather than a simple, quick and effective "red ping" "white ping".
Quick Pings neeeeeeed to make a return, it's incredibly vital to marking an area where you saw a guy but he rounded the corner, not able to spot them.
Overall, I'm happy with it but it needs some tweaks:
- Adjustable Marker Size
- Do not sacrifice quick general pings
- More consistency

what we had before more or less
i tried to use spotting as much as possible but its just terrible. By the time i spot them, they are dead as i would rather shoot than wait for them to be pinged but risk getting shot at. Also once spotted, as soon as i lose sight of them, mark just disappears regardless of the duration.
I also noticed that small windows are very scuffed when trying to spot through them. You get spam of spotting audio cue but it doesn't spot. On top of that, having to look at their exact direction is very counter intuitive. Due to velocity, i need to shoot slightly in front of them but i have to aim EXACTLY onto them to spot which conflicts and end up either spotting and them running to safety or me killing them but didnt really spot so waste of attachment slot.
If I didnt read it wrong, mark stays for 4s and 8s for sniper no? However, from the experience, longest i've seen marker stay up is 1s maybe 1.5s which is nowhere close to 4s
Another thing i noticed is that trying to spot through canted sight is scuffed af
spotting feels like its up for 2 sec max, i dunno if the spotter is shorter than anything else
how do you manual spot?
You press Middle mouse button on the enemy.
You’ll most likely never get the chance to while you’re using the target detector
when there is a half wall like this, its impossible to manually spot. Only when there is NOTHING in front of me i can spot :/

Possibly unrelated, apologies if this is the wrong place to give this feedback: It might just be me being a blind old bat, but I feel like the ping icons are also INCREDIBLY tiny. Like singular pixel tiny. And I'm on a 1080P screen. It just feels like it's miles away even when the enemies are just on the other side of a building I'm in. Maybe making it a WEEEEEEEEE bit bigger would be nice.

im glad the quick spot is coming back, i do not see a soul talking about how removal of the ping made the drone less than useless unless you were bombing or spotting for yourself, which is boring and way to niech to exist, because binos... exist
At any given moment it seems like most or all of the enemy icons visible on the screen are pointing at blank walls or the side of a hill with nobody in sight. I've started just visually filtering them out like I do friendly icons, there's just so many false positives. The only reliable way to tell if a spotted enemy is actually near you or not is to recognize an enemy player model first, which I think more or less entirely defeats the purpose.
The only way I can think of to actually make it worthwhile is to only render 3d icons if the teammate who spotted the enemy was within a certain radius of you when they did it.
I dont like how I cant ping things quickly now, as id have to pull up the whole radial menu and slide my mouse+ click. It overall just takes too much time. The old spotting was simple and quick where I'd press a single button to ping and move on.

The maximum number of pings that can exist at a time has been increased from 3 to 6 pings per squad.
What the fug. Why are you trying to destroy this system. Fucking add it how it was before prior. No limit. Ping spam has never been an issue infact it's been positive expesially for people that don't have a mic. Ping spam = urgent, and requires your squads attention.
I suggest adding a little sound click when you spot someone

And the observe one I think could be good.
I don't see myself having to stay clicked for a few seconds.. then select the marker I want.. and left click in the middle of a fight, everytime.
Not to mention not being able to ping when you're dead is in fact a lot of large loss of efficiency in term of communicating where ennemies are.
old pings were so handy because you didn't need to be looking directly at the enemy, you could use them to ping a general location or last-seen location to tell your teammates to be ready. like if you see an enemy pass through a window or something or between buildings. I thought that was the entire point of pinging, now they're just totally useless and nobody even uses them anymore because it's easier to just try to one-man it instead of going through this convoluted new pinging system
pls change back to the old pings they were so useful for easy teammate communication or let people change pings to a keybind
current red dot is impossibly small and the teardrop was so easy to notice. genuinely there was nothing wrong with the old spotting system
I very much preferred the old ping system and how easy it was to use. At the very least make it so I don't have to go through ui to ping, it's too slow to be useful.
i feel like overall this is adding another chore that the game benefited without. spamming ping and consistently checking the map can be a such a take-away from the battle in front of you. increase the time an enemy is tagged and you risk screen clutter - decrease it and there is no point.
i feel like 3d spotting would have been better off if starting out as exclusively a drone and binocular function.
would have been a nice for teamplay flow too: squad member spots enemy's general location, recon/leader gets the unique role and reward by confirming enemy locations for other squads.
less screen clutter, less take-away, and easier to balance that way, IMO.
I use pinging almost everytime especially when I don't play with mic. But now pinging just takes too much effort and time I never use it. You can't ping while run... You can't ping while dead... and how do you ping running enemies?
IMO have the old pinging system so just midde click and it pings. And then when you hold the middle mouse button, the new pinging system shows.

It could be a combination of old and new: spotting places tracking dorito + large static red ping visible on map
Maybe its just me, it said in update channel that pinging was fixed and less random.
Since update I mightve been able to spot 4 people out of the hundreds I tried to ping, sometimes although my sniperscope can easily see someone, there might be a object in the way resulting in it not being able to spot.
Also feels like I can only spot ever when playing recon, any other class I can spam my middle mouse but nothing happens and now with the new build/social menu inside the spot button half the time when I think I can spot someone, suddenly my build menu thingy opens
that's for the next patch.
I just want to tap one button to ping a location and/or mark an enemy.
I heavily dislike the new ping system.
- Area Pings are too hard to get to
- It hijacks view port control, leaving me unable to turn
- using keyboard inputs requires more presses than one would assume (instead of 2, 2 for a sandbag it's 2,2,2 or 2,2,LMB)
4)it's just generally too cumbersome - you can't use the ping menu while ADS (poor snipers)
- Enemy pings are too small and lack an option to be scaled up
- I'd prefer a separate keybind to open the comms menu vs the quick ping
Having some indicator as a player if i am spotted or not would be huge. As spotting becomes more common it will be more difficult to discern if the enemy team can see you through a wall or not, ontop of variable ping durations. Am i visible for 2 second, 4 second, 12? I do not have any suggestions that are not very "arcadey" such as a UI element just saying "YOU ARE GLOWING, RUN!", but the spotted function in itself is purely arcadey so, fuck it.
I'm with this guy. I used to light an area up with pings while flying to help my team flush out opponents. Now that doesn't happen unless I directly spot them, a very hard thing to accomplish thanks to the apparent precision needed to spot someone.
I used to put pings when dead so I can know where to look when I respawn. Now I can't
The ping system was previously mapped to the mouse scroll wheel. Need it back...and make the commo rose clearer.
This system is more complicated and time consuming than the one before it. It visually looks nicer and feels a lot more developed, but it costs me more time to use which means less time for me to be actively playing. In the battles I played before this update there was usually a couple squad mates pinging enemies and where to watch. Since the update I haven’t seen ANY squad mate pings.
The game would benefit from removing the 3d spotting.
You should focus on what you see and are able to see and not getting a mark of a guy three buildings apart from you.
Edit: I'm all in for a static area marker for squadmates.
disagree, the current state of the game is more arcade focussed and 3d spotting is like one of the few things that makes recon fun

The Phantom Forces ping system is great imo

I think adding back the quick ping system is great, but a few tweaks of the 3D markers on top of enemy heads can work fine
Say, if people think it lasts too long, you can add a way to clear the spotted condition (Hide and make sure there's no enemy with line of sight over you)
Spotted condition might be extended by unsuppressed weapons but idk if that might make silencers too OP
What I like from your thing is the the player getting spotted knowing it

The idea of being to hide clearing the spotting solves Oki's "wallhack" concern imo
Like this, people can actively fight back against being spotted by genuinely hiding from all enemies that could see them
Though, they have to be hidden from every enemy, not just the spotter. So that makes spotting still valuable
(and FYI, "hidden" means you're not in the line of sight of enemies)

Pings and the wheel should be 2 buttons. I crashed a copter and lost so many fire fight because i get stuck in the wheel trying to ping something.
The "cannot ping trough folliage" thingy should be reverted. I must admit i was using it to find people in the wheat field... maybe give an "energy" meter to people, so they cannot just spam the spot button for 10 second straight in hope to find a target, but allow people who KNOWS that there is an enemy behind a tree to ping them as normal.
I believe the normal white ping had a function in the game, I used to tag an entire building by spotting several time, so the team knows. Or i just watched someone turn a corner and i want to ping his location... I can't anymore, it's sad...
Otherwise, I LOVE that the squad leaders have no more pings, this is great!! just need a few tweaks here and there.
oh! last thing, it's sad that a squad leader in a copter cannot give precise orders because they can't right mouse button and wheel. I think it would be better if the special "attack" orders worked more like a building. You select it first, then right click one last time on the precise location.
Good for recons, bad for the player killed because he was a Dorito.
3d Spotting is making flanking/hiding entirely useless.
It also makes the game more chaotic and even more fast paced then it actually is.

twasn't lacking anything, the previous system was perfectly fine on its own, this one also is perfectly fine on its own, with some additions.
Plus, quick pinging is coming back so we get both!
I'm open for variations of the current system, but I feel like 3D spotting NEEDS to stay so that recon actually deserves its name.
I wouldn't mind 3D spotting to stay if it doesn't provide wallhacks
So as long as I keep someone I've spotted in my FoV, the dorito remains visible for everyone
But if they break line of sight then the dorito should disappear relatively quickly
that sounds like a decent compromise

the hide mechanic to remove dorito could be a thing. But Dorito already last only 4s, and 8s on recon.
the problem with Dorito is: You do not know if you are dorito or not.
You should be able to tell if you're spotted or not, on the HUD.
I wish EXP from enemy spotted killed, would also work like 5s still after you got spotted.
I'm so happy they did fix the "spotting" after the update as it was like putting a heat missile on a far away target before. Even when u didnt see someone (behind rocks) u could still mark them and the spot was there for couple of sec. I do miss the "General" area spotting so u can let your squad know that something fishy is going behind a building or another cover. Would be nice to have "General" white markers when u dead on the floor.
The long range sniping is dead now due to "mark" spamming the middle button. I can't see ppl far away in mid range scope but I can mark them and shoot on the marker xD

This is the main issue here. I'm able to SPAM the ping even I don't really see those players... Battlebit was one of he most amazing sniping games... and now u don't even have to show skill to find the enemy but spam "Middle mouse" and aim at red triangle :/ this destroys long range sniping. Same issue happens if the middle range scope can't see beyond certain distance on some maps, yet if I spam ping I can still see the marks although I don't see the players as they are so far away.
Still missed tho 
But also, pinging through bushes will be fixed next update

that's very nice, but that doesn't solve the sniper ping SPAM as you are to far away to see ppl through scope yet u still can ping them. Same when enemy got pinged, entered a bunker or underground and you are still able to see if they went right or left, instead of trying to figure out what they planning or where they running to. Was more challenging and fun for me
yep, this is broken if a player know how to abuse...
On most keyboards you can make a macro where your "W,A,S,D" pings while you move, you just need to be looking at the direction and moving. I haven't tested it but this is almost a wall hack if it works in practice;
true or just a simple pyton script that will push additional buttons while u move. But this is the issue here in vid. I couldn't see anyone but I suddenly started spamming "Mark" button and "Hello there guys" - I can see them all, although I shouldn't be able to spot them without binoculars or long range scope :/, that's why the drone had a purpose of "recon", to be able to track the enemy movement LIVE, but 1 soldier from squad had to be sacrificed while doing that.

Legit can't see anyone in that vid. The spotting is too powerful.
They should add 3d spotting for the drone and Helicopter's F2 seat only - the rest will be static pings. Thoughts?
Remove the target detector
It was bad for the health of bf4 as a game, and it'll be bad for this game to. It's objectively the best attachment imo. Sharing enemies automatically is crazy powerful for teams
You can replace it with something else or something, but with 3D spotting you'll now see everyone lit up constantly because of the detector

On recon you use range finder a lot. So having to choose between two options is good.

Hello. in my opinion, it is better to use ping system like the apex.
it will make communication easy without voice chat partly.
however, it can makes this game too casual, and it is problem how extent the ping markers applied in the team ,like a all teammates ping applied, or only work in squad.

Quick Ping is back gamers 
Giving spotting more points, with a kill giving 800 and a spot giving 50, is kinda off, with additionally adding a lot more points on a skill in different situations, like on a marked point.
to give more reward and getting people to spot more.
great idea. if this idea applied, the beginner can enjoy this game. increasing playing diversity is important things.

the quick ping is back (ping without a target without holding down the ping button) and it appears on the map, but in my opinion that sort of ping should last half as long as they do now
okay so after a few games of the new 3d spotting, i think doritos should be invisible unless you see the player too. seeing red triangles thru smoke, trees, or behind buildings is WAY too much
The ping size setting only affects 3D vehicle pings, or am I missing something?
I think the manual ping white marker should be smaller like with the old quick ping system

The prevalence of spotting + being able to be spotted in smoke makes them a detrimental throwable to use. Throwing smokes at your team is more of a griefing mechanic than a support tool. Games current play as though there is an active UAV for the majority of the time which, kind of sucks for moving, shooting and using cover.
a short, subtle sound upon spotting would be great, small thing but it would improve gameplay feedback
honestly it reminds me of battlefield 4 but not in a good way. 3d spots are a terrible idea, the distance at which you can spot is also pretty crazy. now you and your squad trying to pull off a flank is going to be next to impossible because a recon marked you from 300 + meters away. if you want to keep the 3d spot system have it be for the squad only and not the whole team of possibly 100 + people. or people can go back to using their ears and eyes. its one of the reasons why i loved battlefield 5 and this game up until recently
good example, sandy sunset . if the enemy team has c or d and you have to push down from e on foot. good luck not getting spotted from people in the buildings on c or d or the snipers on b. the sniper contrail really annoyed me but this is actually just worst for everyone
new spotting system actually makes smoke grenades useless, u cant rush becouse u fully marked in smokes. And new gameplay throw smokes - and wait mark in smoke, no dynamic. Return old one - it's was enough for us
New spotting feels way too powerful. Being able to see the exact location of enemies is not fun for myself who enjoys not shooting towards a red dot, and makes it much easier to be randomly shot in large modes. I also echo how it heavily crashes with the smoke grenades (I like how dense they are now, though).
I thought the system that just shows a stationary red mark did a good enough job at adding easy communication without making it overwhelming. It also felt like it fit in the vibe of the rest of the game, as opposed to the new system which really stands out, personally. Been loving the other updates though 🖤
Not only does it give you their exact location, it even reveals the way they're facing so it allows for extremely powerful flanks if you have a buddy supporting you with a drone.
I agree that static pings would already provide enough information for effective communication without completely nullifying flanking. At the very least, it would require the spotter to actively track the target's movements.
It's unfortunate to see this game lower skill ceilings to battlefield baby mode.
i really liked the old system where pings were short-lived and you could also send "convincing" pings (the old red ones) so that people actually paid attention

I agree, what new system is powerful, but it also feels bad to use as infantry. Target detector is trying to mark the target - nothing happens until you see entire body of your opponent
What's everyone's opinion on marking people who you shoot at? It feels really silly having to press LMB and MMB simultaneously mid firefight just so you can track the person.

I think :
- Auto detector should only be available on Recon(or sniper/dmr/br), because you actually have to choose between this and the rangefinder.
- You should know on your HUD if you're spotted.
- Spotting mechanic should have a cooldown without the auto detector.
- spotting should give more XP.
My feedback for spotting system:
- I can 3D tracking-spot players running through smoke with my drone in the sky. This makes smoke less useful.
- I would like smoke to remove the 3D tracking spot on players while they are inside of it.
- I found it overpowered to be able to use the 3D tracking spot while in death cam.
- I need a way to keybind the unique spot marker types. I like the idea of "observe" "attack" and "defend" but they are clumsy to activate at the moment.
- I am unable to re-bind the white ping from the 3D tracking ping; this makes it annoying when I miss a 3D spot and a white marker appears way behind them unintentionally (this creates unintentional screen clutter for my squad)

Oh, and also adding onto the voices that are suggesting a "You are currently spotted!" text somewhere while you are spotted.
The white ping is how it used to work in the past and people asked for it to be back, I agree it looks a bit too spammy now but it can still be useful when you want to point out targets but they are concealed in a way the game refuses to apply the marker directly
However, it could probably be smaller in size and fade-off over a few seconds
My revelation from playing yesterday: if 3d spotting is kept, 3d spots should only be visible if the geometry of the enemy is also visible. They should disappear or grey out for the remainder of the spot timer once the player ducks behind cover, including smoke, foliage, trees, terrain, or buildings. No 3d spot triangle icons should reveal enemies that would otherwise be concealed by cover. If we have to have 3d spotting, there should also be a warning for any spotted player on screen like there is in battlefield.
3d spotting should work similar to ow2 spotting where it's 3d when you see him but once the enemy leaves your vow it spawns a 2d marker at the last known location
I probably mentionned this before but I didn't get opinions on phantom forces spotting
tldr
- You can spot with a key, it does a short animation so you can't spam it (like 0.6 or 0.8 seconds)
- 3D markers as usual
- If an enemy breaks line of sight with all enemies, the marker will stay on but only briefly
- When spotted they will have a "Spotted" indicator on the bottom left. When hiding, it says "Hiding"
- Shooting an unsuppressed weapon will extend the spotted duration up to a cap (5 seconds max when nobody is staring at you)

I'm all for trying new things but 3D spotting in general is just bad for gameplay, especially with a fast TTK. I played a few games last night after taking a few weeks off and the game feels completely different - and not in a good way. This was most noticeable playing recon/sniper, where the double-whammy of the trail/glint and spotting mechanic makes the class nearly impossible to play successfully (or enjoyably). I lost count of the number of times I was obliterated by an enemy tank/BTR from long range because I had a dorito above me. You lose all stealth capabilities - on any class - especially when your kills can 3D spot you!!! You are essentially punished for getting a kill! I hope 3D spotting is removed completely (just revert to the original ping system).
I was okay with the spotting system, before they added 12 second drone spots, that can be done over and over with no cooldown and from 100m away in the air

I also don't like how clunky the white spots are now. If be fine with their current duration and limit if it wasn't finicky to pull off a ping
I'm in the "just revert to original ping system" camp now too. This makes dying and killing a lot easier, for everyone, like there's a random chance that everyone has wallhacks on
Id like a revert too. I think I'd be ok with the original ping system having reduced white ping capacities. But make them last longer then they do now, because they vanish immediately.
It's fine tho. If you want a more permanent ping you can place one from the wheel.
I don't think you would enjoy your HUD if every time somebody missed a spotting attempt your screen got spammed with a bunch of pings that last for a long time
I agree the wheel still needs to have its usability improved but I think having the fast ping also fade quickly is fine
I would honestly be fine having one ping and one ping only - similar to what PUBG does.
I'm not asking for 30 seconds, I'm just asking for a slight increase. Something that doesn't vanish before any of my squad mates can see it
love having to wait 4 seconds after every kill so that you dont get prefired when you start moving again 
The new ping system has made the game so much worse, you can barely flank anymore, if by any godly miracle you can avoid being spotted by one of the 127 players on the other team you might have a chance. Also seeing 30-40 red dots at all time behind rocks and bushes is really annoying. I really hope they revert it back to what it was.
I think the timer is too long in general, a couple of things could help with the spamming of it.
- Make the spots squad based and if you kill a spotted enemy near a marked objective you could get bonus points.
- Have the time spotted reduced initially and each consecutive time they are spotted by the same player the time gradually increases
this spotting system is complete shit, whole screen in red markers, game is hunting for red guys, should draw them on screen only if enemy in your line of sight, not through everything like wallhack, and we need different keys for pings and marking peoples
reiterating that the new spotting system is turning this game into something completely different. all it does is encourage me to spam bullets at doritos through smoke and foliage. its ridiculously easy to kill spotted enemies; and theres no way of knowing if youre spotted or not. and it is infuriating to get shot through smoke/foliage from all over the map. I think the previous system forcing players to look at the map for spotted enemies was much better and encouraged a healthier gameplay loop.
It used to be fun to think about where the front line is, where a good corridor for flanking is, where a good sniping spot might be, etc. generally just using our brains to outplay the other team. Now the game has devolved into me (and others) sprinting towards red dots on the map, getting a few kills with no effort, dying bc I got a Dorito over my head, and then repeat. This is (IMO) completely changing the core gameplay loops and is probably the most antithetical update this game has ever seen. I really hope you reconsider. This game is suffering from half baked new updates that are the opposite of progress.
I think we can all agree that we care a lot about the game, which is why we are so vocal. I'm not sure why the direction of it is controlled essentially by 1 dev with questionable advisors (opinionated discord users). It is making me lose so much faith in its longevity. At first I understood that the game isn't for everyone but we still had a small community of regulars and there was a solid core gameplay loop and skill curve. but updates like this destroy those loops and curves
It feels very inconsistent in current state. Sometimes i quick ping, sometimes i mark something. I would make two diffrent buttons for marking(single press)/quickping(long press) and radial-menu. This way you can mark consistently without cluttering the map with quickpings for your squad.
I think player spotting player is okay. Maybe lasts a bit long. But drone spotting is so broken.

I personally would prefer 3D spotting to be exclusive to reconnaissance tools like binoculars and the drone.
There's too many markers everywhere, pinging everything is a bit annoying and the auto ping device thingie allows you to see people through foliage which is disgustingly powerful.

New spoting system is totaly out of touch, it should be tought about before adding/reworking features. Being visible for 12s to enemy and not knowing about it is insane. Talk about run/kill/die/repeat with this system. Similar games (battlefield, even phantom forces) have minimap/radar only spoting and visible only mark over head. Just pushing wallhack even for 4s right into production game so bad.
i feel like this is too much. as a really large hitbox game, with a clear visibility, there is no need to spot that hard. On BF1 for ex, yup, because of the dark theme we had, smaller hitboxes, etc. but here, I swear this is raging, and unlikely to please a lot of players. I know you wanna ease the game to make it more popular, but for me that's a nope. at this point, just revert the ping system. It's becoming less efficient to play with brain, flanking, planning, and having a surprise effect, than it is to just wait for the sheeps to pass the tunnel of death. I'm a bit sad tbh. I really hope devs are going to take a real thought on this new pinging system
if 3d pinging must stay, change it to how jackal pings in r6 work where the ping only refreshes every few second or so and not constantly
guys the 3d pinging doesnt have to stay or be nerfed. as a community if most people dont like it should just go. a bad design choice is a bad design choice. a lot of people played battlebit because it was different than other modern shooters. now outside of better gunplay what does it offer differently then say battlefield ? really hope in the future Okie gets community feedback before he changes core gameplay
i think it should be removed, but stay as a recon perk with no wall hack. even then, it should be proximity-based.
Spotting is fine. But having a dorito above, following the player around is not. Remove 3d pinging
Go back to spotting only applying for your squad, if you REALLY want global spotting make it exclusive to recon drones, on top of this remove the dorito following the enemy.
Not really a fan of the wallhack spots. You shouldn't be able to see their dorito if there is foliage, a wall, or smoke in the way.
The target detector should also be removed from pretty much everything besides maybe snipers and dmrs so the ppl that sit around most of the game contribute in one more way.
Right now im able to sit directly in front of a bush or a smoke and just by holding right click I will know that theres an enemy somewhere in front of me to spray down with an SMG
i think the new spotting system is great. one request though: can you make is so the drone autospots people instead of requiring a button press? I'm seriously worried about getting a RSI here. I got 523 spot assists in a round and my whole arm was on fire
3D spotting is too strong. It should not be global, or provide wallhacks
Spotting is fine. Intel matters, not people can't just run and hope to not get caught. Notification and follow ping could use a duration decrease
Literally can though. Just have a fast build. All spotting does is punish people who stay in one spot for too long (as if this wasn't already punished hard enough).
it also punishes ppl that move around. No need to move to get a different angle when the enemy can follow every single step you take
i think the new system should work only if enemies are in sight and not in at every distance... i mean, ok a little bit of arcade but not too much. also the trail system is ruining sniping... recon is not my favourite class but i think it was enjoyable for a match or two, now is much less attractive with all this nerfs

I think spotting is a little too strong now. It feels like you are just shooting at red doritos in the HUD instead of actually trying to find enemies with your eyes. Overall a bad change for the game IMO. Step backwards for the game tbh

Yeah, being able to spot while downed is incredibly fucking stupid since downed players functionally become immortal motion detectors. Anyone with functioning senses will immediately spot you after they die, so killing someone might as well be a guaranteed spot. If you could finish off downed players, then letting them spot you would make a lot more sense. Otherwise it's just annoying af
Running a suppressed m4 i kill a guy reload turn the corner and there is a guy already perched up just waiting for me from a flank they wouldnt know about, and this keeps happening over and over. today on valley i spotted someone while down who was at least 350m away. that the spotting gadget, the sniper trail, and some maps that got in my opinion a not so great redesign like valley and basra and i think im done with this game for a bit. why not redesign Eduardovo, or even better river that actually needs a redesign ? why not remove the spotting because i think most people dont like it or at the bare minimum until you reach a better system as a compromise ? (make spotting for people in your squad only to encourage more squad play? ) . i really liked this game. the gunplay and the destruction are really good but they are taking design choices from battlefield which dumb the game down even more from a game that wanted to be a little more hardcore. i understand why the milsim thing wouldnt work because thats kind of niche but it was refreshing playing an FPS that you had use your eyes and ears in order to succeed and play with your squad and not just run around and shooting doritos. Oki is slowly killing what made battlebit different from every other FPS. if i wanted to play battlefield i would.
i don't know why this is still a thing or why its conceptualized as a fair mechanic at all. i feel like the only reason is because people just want to have some amount of comfort when dying - that and having the satisfaction of being avenged. but when you die, that should be it. you loose, they win. there simply should be no advantage or benefit to it. no second wind or dramatic dying breath to reveal the enemy's location. simply, you should not be punished for killing players.
You could technically drag them to a corner or somewhere obscure as a way to deny revives and sight, thoughthe spotting when downed could be solved with LOS checks like Phantom Forces. You can simply exclude the downed person from being a "sightline", so that only players that are alive can maintain pings.

Don't even talk to me about the new spotting machanic being 'overpowered' when the recon drone can't even ping enemy vics. THAT should be what people are talking about. Don't know why people even bother mapping the ping button at this point. Literally one if the most worthless, underpowered featured added to the game.
so the dev said reason for giving pinging ability to down players is to discourage these downed players from giving up too soon. However, the down ping duration is only about 2 secs. i usually give up after these 2 seconds since i can no longer ping where enemies are. the dev should extend down-player ping to 8 secs - or basically the time a player would have to wait to respawn after giving up.
you can ping enemies after 2secs. there is no time limit for that 
if people want to give up too soon after dying and deny a medic the revive, that's on them.

Many players like the new spotting system and have since spoken up in favor of keeping the spotting system as is, or expanding the duration of the 3d ping. The 3d ping has really leveled the playing field between casual players, like myself, and sweaty tryhards. Even my friend who is a tryhards has said he cannot flank or push aggressively as he once did, due to the 3d ping
It's just making the skill ceiling super low though. All the new players will just use 3d pinging as a crutch instead of actually getting better at the game
Playing a new FPS always has growing pains, learning the maps, angles, audio queues and such. Sure it can be painful, but jfc, it's better than giving everyone wall hacks

I am not claiming to be a hardcore player but I do have a lot of hours in this game (130h) and tend to end up on the higher end of the leaderboard, so my question for you is the following. Why would my playstyle that is more risky (rushing/flanking) shouldn't give me a higher reward (kills/capturing objectives) than a "casual" player that would be more of a tactical (slow pace/staying with the group) would get that may be considered a safer way to play. The new ping system doesn't value the risk vs reward side of gameplay. I personally have stopped playing the game for the moment because my way of enjoying the game has been gutted. Also I think that listening to the more "hardcore" players has a bigger impact on the game because at the end of the day they are the players that the game will more heavily retain as a player base. I am not saying that your point of view has a value of 0 just to be clear.
All the players that were good at communication and using the static ping now have little red doritos they can just click now, instead of leveling the playing field it out it gave these players super powers.

that was my second bit, i've been cheesing my hardcore community server insteading having to identify my enemy make sure hes my color, now I can wave my gun over him and it will tell me.

It's definitely increased my skill ceiling as an SL. Before when trying to defend a point I'd always have trouble keeping a rally alive, constantly getting flanked and pushed off the objective. Now, when the enemy tries to flank my position I can have my squad already in position to intercept. My squad leading had been taken to the next level. I am the unflankable

i honestly think most people would be fine with the 3d spotting if 1) you couldnt spot when down 2) 3d spotting was for your squad only. giving 100 + possible players your exact location is too much but a squad of 8 (?) i think is except able

Pinging should have some rate limiting, or the white ping markers be made configurable in appearance and size.
In a recent game there was a drone pilot pinging a lot, this basically went on for the whole game. He had good intentions and wasn't just spamming, but the amount of white markers were a bit annoying

It could be possible for these things to be turned off like with other features on official progression community servers, but isn't much we can do about 3d spotting until it's something the server owners can turn off in the API at the moment they can't.
Same goes for most of the recent changes, sniper bullet trail, and possibly the weird muffling effect..
Suggestion given the new update making pings invisible through walls and smoke:
Similar to how you can see friendly icons through walls if they're close enough, enemy markers should be visible through walls but only if they're very close, otherwise it defeats the point of marking for people who are pushing an objective with enemies on it that are hiding in cover. Spotting should be useful for more than just enemies that are out in the open.
This is particularly important because there's no minimap to look at to look for spotted enemies, and I know that that's a deliberate design choice.
However, I like the addition of smoke grenades obscuring the markers. If it'd be possible to do this and keep it so that smoke still obscures the spotting marker even when players are nearby, I think that'd be best. It adds even more utility to smoke.
how about no 3d pinging for simplicity?
The biggest pain point is having literal wall hacks from pinging. Limiting it to only nearby enemies is just as bad, you know exactly where they’re hiding in the building, you swing first so you get peekers advantage, and they insta die because all you had to do was aim below a dorito.
Rip smoke. You can just spam while aiming
bf3 and bf4 had this exact same issue and it took till 2015 to fix it
I'm absolutely chuffed with the spotting system as-is right this instant.
No walls, no see-through smokes, it serves it's purpose as a "this enemy was in the line of sight of allies a bit ago" warning, and incentivizes playing around it / being less of a dumdum pushing with no cover or smoke.

this was one of the best sniping game ever... It's shame they made it easier for AK players to snipe snipers out and not even look for the scope reflections... shame.. now u can go full-auto, no skill MK110 and be less spotted. long range was so satisfying to snipe ppl over 900m... now you don't even have to see the sniper but spam ping every hill or mountain just later to aim little bit down the triangle red marker :/

now that spotting isn't wallhack. It should give point when you spot someone, and more when they get killed. Because, 4s ain't enough for someone to :
- Look at the map
- see someone got spotted there
- go Kill them

One of my favourite parts of Battlebit was the feeling of agency in my awareness, it was up to me to know who was around me or where I was being shot at from.
I think the new spotting system is a step in the wrong direction and gives me two extra things to do that I don't want to do:
- Hunting around for doritos
- Remembering to spam middle mouse at everything I'm shooting at.
If you're determined to keep a spotting system in the game could you at least restrict it to a squad-wide broadcast like the previous spotting system.

well it looks like with an upcoming update there will be no more spotting through smoke/ seeing through objects. i still think letting 100 + enemies know your position is still way too much and 3d spotting should be more squads only
Keybind idea, related to ping:
- One press on the spot key in a person, it's gonna spot them.
- But to do a 3D ping in the world, need to press 2 times!
This gonna remove the spam of pings, when trying to ping someone with a drone, or when trying to open the wheel menu.

Because there's no more enemy ping, only 3d spotting which is smaller, or area ping which is the older "pin" kind of icon, I think?
If I can scale the size of allied doritos to be actually visible on my screen, I should be able to do the same with enemies.
Besides, the option was there for one patch, now suddenly disappeared with the new one.

I think limiting 3D spotting visibility to squad-only is a great idea. Being spotted costs the spotter nothing and paints a target on you for 100+ players, which is a massive discrepancy in risk:reward. Limiting who receives that info so it's not as strong seems like an easy/appropriate adjustment.
Although, to be honest I agree with what some others said and I don't really see 3d spotting to be a net-benefit or actually fun for the game as a whole. It feels like a mechanic that does nothing but make the game easier/more brainless since you can just look for doritos rather than players. Player visibility is already good and doesn't need a handicap imo.

i agree with those who wish for 3d spotting to not be in the game at all. i am a big proponent of using just your eyes and ears in an FPS game, but what are the odds that Oki swallows his pride and removes 3d spotting completely ? i think pretty small. my suggestion is more we have these lemons lets make a good lemonade situation. battlebit is lucky it still has pretty good gunplay. after the sniper nerf i was pretty pissed and tried BF 2042. BF 2042 just feels so souless and sterile to me and the bullet bloom on say the m5a3 even micro bursting at close-medium range is ridiculous. bullet bloom is the main reason i hated BF1 despite it being a gorgeous game with mostly fun gameplay, i think its clear that oki wants to make the game more beginner friendly but i think there are better ways than 3d spotting for an entire enemy team or a contrail on sniper rifles
i personally haven't played much since the 3d spotting update because it's such a different experience having all these doritos magically showing up. i really enjoyed the grey and red pings before, because teammates could ignore the grey pings but have a bit more confidence with the red pings, which rewarded situational awareness. now it just seems too magic and to me, not interesting
my quick suggestion / food for thought: perhaps allow the 3d player pinging only when a player has a target designator installed (and then maybe only give it to snipers), with everyone else getting the older 2d pings

Am I the only one who feels like it's often more useful to drop a white ping than a Doritos highlight? It's frustrating to try and white ping and instead tag a specific enemy. Would be great if Doritos were only for recon or drones. I honestly don't feel like the red triangle is any more useful and can be more annoying to use. The only time 3d spotting feels good is when you can see the enemy on the map.

3D pings are the softest spotting system, you can't see them through obstacles, they don't last long and only your squad can see them.
The use in-game is infrequent and falls perfectly into the requirements of a squad communication tool.
It's working perfectly and is pretty balanced, I don't think recon need any more tools
if its used infrequently, then there is no point in having it at all. also saying that it is a required squad-play tool in the same sentence makes your argument conflicting.
even if it were used frequently or as an essential tool, it adds a chore that the game benefited without. it takes players away from the engaging gameplay when they are just spamming ping and shooting doritos.
i personally think the best move right now is to just remove it for other classes, then just give it to the only class that can (should) utilize it as a special perk, because at least they would be playing their namesake role.

No, we don't need another reason for this game to favor sniping
This is what I'd do for the 3D ping :
- Make it Squad visible, not Team visible.
- 6s ping time for any class.
- 12s ping time for recon.
- Target detector increase time to ADS by at least 0.02. (Nerf). That, or it's Recon only.
- Drone has limited range to ping (Can't ping over 50m)
- Drone has 18s duration ping.
- Drone can be 3D pinged.
- Increase XP for spotted target killed to 300.
- XP is also given if the target is killed after the same time than the duration of the ping. If you have a 6s ping time, 6s after the ping is finished, if target is killed, you still get the bonus XP This way it'll still reward people pinging for your squad.
This would make :
- Target detector not an obvious go to option as side attachment for anyone.
- Recon helping their squad to search them and kill them.
- Make drone a core part of spotting. And solving the problem of Super high flying drone.
- Gives a good and consistent reward, for people to engage with the spotting mechanism.
- Make the Recon a class wanted in Squads.
You could also make advanced binos, have some sort of spotting mechanic mixed in too.
Make the MDX glint gadget auto spot people that are aiming really close to it.
Personally speaking I do not think the target detector needs a nerf, it's not that op

Idk, the laser doesn't provide stats benefits in anyway. It helps indicate your hipfire, but it also backfire, since it's visible by ennemy team too.
Some snipers also don't use the rangefinder, since the velocity is that high, they just aim by eye. So Target detector is a good trade for that.
It's just that now, we've gone from broken spotting mechanic, to highly underwhelming mechanic.
Which by design, make Target detector less appealing.

Can we have an empty triangle or something to indicate the known position of spotted people trough wall. If I can spot someone inside a building, it make sense that my teamates knows there is someone in the building. Not his position, fair, but at least a visual cue that there is someone somewhere in it. It's often enough.

No, the Doritos was following the target behind walls, I'm asking for a fixed one, where the target was spotted and you don't see it.

Vehicle spot should lose the wallhack behaviour, just like inf did. It makes positioning and finding cover to hide irrelevant. It makes smoke irrevelant too, because you can shoot accuratly through the smoke, aiming at red marker.

Need an option to turn the sound back to normal. I am forced to DRASTICALLY change my play style because I cannot hear freindly fire. Its so bad that my brain thinks something is wrong with my audio signal like I have surround going into 2 channels. I do not want my brain to get used to only hearing enemy sounds in this game or any other. On top of that is even harder to get a read of the battlefield because of attenuation. I am forced to wait for choppers to spawn and only play minigun and its driving me bonkers.
Would be nice to spot without the massive white google icon. One where the red icon shows up on the enemy and nothing else

Go into settings and shrink the marker size. Then it won’t be visible. And you will only see enemy ping Doritos
If 3d spot was removed because it was basically wallhack, remove 3d spot for vehicles too. Kepping it in is basically bias.
