#Create a Community Test Environment (experimental update branch)

Battlefield 4 had this wonderful system where potential changes were tested on a sort of "beta" branch. These could be changes that made it into the game, or changes that never saw the light of day after being tested. I think it'd benefit the development of the game greatly to allow the community to help out more by testing weird, potentially game breaking updates in a community test environment (CTE). You could allow people to access this by switching versions on steam.

A lot of games have been using beta branch/experimental branch update testing lately - early access especially - so I don't see why it'd be a negative for the game. Also, more testers = more free work and "faster" updates for players who want to participate. So win-win.

While it might slow down the deployment of patches, I'd love for this branch to really be experimental. Take wild swings, adjust often, do NOT care about the minute-to-minute balance, and adjust before it hits the prod servers, so you have less re-working to do, and can iterate quick.

I'd be worried about it splintering the community, to be honest.. but with how wildly popular the game is, I'm sure we can afford a couple hundred BBR addicts who want to see the new stuff before it hits live just roaming around in those servers. Maybe limit the population somehow to avoid splintering the community too hard?

Like maybe limit it to a couple servers for each team size, and only have official servers on there running the maps/gamemodes you want to work on at the moment?

Like, don't really need a lot of servers and such. The positive impact of having 200+ people stress testing changes to see how they actually affect the game is indescribable in value.

Necroing this post. Movement changes could be tested on this sort of thing

#

Would be an easy place to quickly test and end the movement "debate"

Now I get to actually know what the gameplay of stuff is like before trying to think of ways to avoid player complaints
