Advanced Binoculars / Binoculars - Feedback

Blacks out way too much of the screen. Could use a buff to draw speed as it feels very sluggish to use currently.

To distinguish them better, regular Binos could get huge range of magnification, Advanced could have more restricted maximum magnification but add FLIR mode (with same limited battery mechanic as scope ofc).

(although I honestly doubt just merging both into one with great magnification and FLIR would be super gamebreaking)

"Advanced Binoculars" seems like theres nothing advanced in it, Im still not sure what the difference is between them if its just the magnifier range (8x for advanced if im not wrong), when I tested both binoculars long time ago, I was expecting to be able to change the zoom and reach the same as long range scopes magnifiers of range (20x if not more) as this game "lets" you to be this far and still kill people

Other than that, what I've heard from people talking is always asking if you can use it as a "manual" rangefinder while you don't have the attachment unlocked for your gun

Who even uses these😂

#

Give them a rangefinder and thermals up to at least 6x zoom and maybe people will consider them

#

Who’s gonna pick these over something that helps you get to high spots or helps ik combat like why are these even in the game r now

all binoculars should have a rangefinder

What's even the point of these? snipers come with range finders. Bite the bullet and buff the ping system and let recon actually be able to gather information like their class name suggests.

edgy frigate
#

Maybe if the rangefinder attachment had to be equipped in the canted sight slot and force you to switch to it to get a reading it would not be such an obviously superior choice.

#

Allow us to adjust their magnification with the mouse scroll and give them a little center reticle so is easier to ping the exact spot I want to ping.

#

Overall the pinging system need a rework as well, with that binoculars and recon drones could get a bit more of a use.

I'd like to have way more zooming options than rn. I'd go as far to say give Advanced Binos the choice to zoom from 1x to 15x, like give it a lot of choices for zooms.

#

Even then, binos are kinda poopoo. We could even give them the option to use Thermal and they'd still be just okay.

#

They need to have some universal spotting mechanic, prolly keeping it to Squad Members. If a friendly squadmate marks a guy, all squad members can see them through walls.

#

That would be crazy good, but I'd still probably choose C4 even over a buff like this.

Currently the spot marks on the HUD don't really communicate distance too well, so getting to see the marks in the map itself would be helpful.

#

And the marks would allow one to be more explicit about what they're trying to communicate.

I completely forgot these existed, which says a lot

I would be content with them doing the same thing as the spotting binoculars does in battlefield 5. No one ever used them but they were fun to use and supports the team quite a bit

Then just fine tune it for either duration or cool down.

But let's be real. Would the snipers stop shooting to actually support the frontline team and not raise their own K/D? Kappa

(Cough) Advanced Binos could give live ping on players, making a Spotter/Sniper dynamic possible...

Let binos have ping selector so we can change the type to mark different things.

Advanced binos could show range couldnt it?

They just need to in general, but that'd be cool too

isn't that what the soflam binos did?

Much like the BF5 spotting recommendations, you could go more so the R6 drone route. This would involve having to look at a target within a 'spotting circle' (identified by the different binoculars), clicking mouse 1, and over a certain time frame they will be scanned as both a tiny 3D marker and a marker on the map. Maintaining a sightline would continually scan and replace the old markers. If there were live 3D markers it could turn into a 2042 breakthrough hell for everyone.

IMO, this is one of the biggest areas of improvement for Recon. Suggestions:

  • Merge the two binoculars into one gadget.
  • Advanced binoculars have an integrated rangefinder and variable zoom.
  • Give the binoculars an inner circle (radius TBD) that acts as a spotting volume.
  • Anybody who stays in this ring for a certain amount of time (probably 1.5-2 seconds) gets one of the upcoming 3D spots, plus a highlight on the map temporarily.

You are unequipping your weapon for a gadget with no offensive or direct application; the value it provides in intel should be easy to use and valuable.

the ONLY thing that binos offer is no glint with decent magnification

#

but tbf, people rather stick with medium scopes for that reason

raw sparrow
#

yeah medium scopes make advanceed optics obselete. If they had thermal vision it would be worth using, especially on night maps. Spotting still feels really underwhelming.

raw sparrow
#

I mean I was trying to use the advanced binos on a night map from our spawn and was getting sniped from their spawn without seeing the opponents glint at all. Just physically couldnt see the guy who was sniping me. So after a certain distance the glint is irrelevant anyways

advanced binos should have range finder at the very least if not variable zoom as well

Bino spot bonus should be at least 100

👍

Totally agree, binos still not worthy the slot

hardy copper

Make advanced Binos have rangefindung and thermal with zoom option using the alt key, while making regular binos have zoom option + range finder while covering less of your screen than advanced

jovial crown
#

Zoom feature on regular binos is great for actual reconnaissance. I put a few hours in yesterday.

bronze nymph

Like, the only plus is zooming without glint

#

Advanced is only a fixed zoom without glint

thermal binoculars would be pretty cool, gives them more purpose

hardy copper

They could also go the laser guided rocket route in the future and make advanced binos laser lock

Binoculars should either have a crosshair or a wider area that can be used for tagging. Trying to tag people with binocs usually leaves a few unwanted white markers because it's hard to tell whether a target is in the tagging zone or just near it

grizzled zodiac
#

that's just true in general, I rather have a split keybind where I can seperate the two if I want

austere stone
#

I don't mind the mmb tag. but yesh it's not exactly forgiving trying to aim the binocs. Usually ends up in a sea of white markers

I had some similar ideas, I just made a post in the Reddit.

Here's my suggestions to make them useful:
-Combine the Binoculars and Advanced Binoculars into one gadget
-Available for Recon & Assault
-Add a rangefinder
-Snipers can check range without scope glint, and put a Target Detector on their rifle instead of the Range Finder
-Make spotting using the Binoculars last much longer than the standard 4 secs, (8 recons, 12 for drones) maybe 20 secs
-Makes Recons more helpful for the entire team
-Give the binoculars a wider margin for spotting an enemy
-Give more points for Binocular spotting
-The spot bonus seems to vary from 50-300 points, maybe give 2x or 3x points
-Give them wide variable zoom (maybe 2-16x)

Hello there 👋
I come back some months later in order to give my feedback on binoculars.
I wanted to play as recon with my friend. While he was the shooter, I was the spotter/support.
But I realized there is no rangefinder on binoculars !
What a shame !
So, here are my very basic suggestions to improve this incredible tool. They are easy to add in game as it relies on already existing features.

-Make basic binoculars available for all class (it's not a very game-changer gadget, let everyone use it freely)
-Put a range finder on all binoculars (very important for cooperation between a spotter and a shooter)
-Put a target detector on all binoculars (as the weapon's gadget, it only spots when you directly aim at it for a certain amount of time)
-BONUS (may be overpowered) : Put thermal vision on advanced binoculars (the flow of not being able to choose zoom should be rewared by an adavntage. This one seems very interesting)

Thank you very much for reading me. I hope something will happen in order to make binoculars great again.
I think it's a very important gadget for any player who wants to play in cooperation with friends.
Bye !

I’ve been beating this drum since I’ve joined the discord. I am for any opportunity for recon to give info to their team and support the mission outside of just shooting. A binocular with range finder and better variable zoom would be amazing for counter sniper teams due to no glint on binoculars.

#

Just and idea I’d throw out there is to increase ping time just like the drone pings for longer

#

(Adding to the list of flir and range finding to make recon the ultimate class at picking up and disseminating info to the rest of the team)
