It gives an individual too much freedom and options for maps to have any flow.
It may work in 32vs32 games like BF, but after you quadruple it, it's just a shit show.
Planetside 2 has only spawns on deplayable squad wide accesible beacons, vehicles and objectives.
i dunno about removing spawning on people, but the way it currently is with very few limitations is the wrong way to do it for sure. maybe only allowing spawning on the squad leader, or placing a limit on how many times you can spawn on squadmates in a fixed unit of time, etc etc. Right now squad spawning is almost literally a more flexible, no-downsides alternative to spawning on an obj, as it has the same limitations of a respawn timer and not being able to spawn on a teammate in combat (which is just the squadmate version of not being able to spawn on a contested obj). squad spawning needs to have some limitations to balance that out, and the way it has been abused for the entire lifetime of the game since last year's release is proof of that
There is no "balancing out" map wide teleport evert 10 s after death
It invalidates vehicles as a means of transport
It destroys any map flow
Do you want 8 people on enemy objective? Just let 1 guy sneak there and done.
Then you have clow car situations when 1 guy runs behind a corner, you go after him and see 4 new guys
Not killing single rat on objetive fast enough may very well mean there is 8 of them there
ye sure but that needs a big change and not everyone likes that. Spawn protection is just a small change and most ppl won't even notice
But it kinda changes nothing with spawn mechanics. That's like, more of an after though change to it than what's needed
it changes me dying because someone got an unkillable human shield in front of him
Squad spawning is really really abusable for squads that know what they're doing, especially with how the maps are currently laid out
I'm still for making spawn beacons quicker/faster, easier and smaller, then remove squad spawning.
Maybe let squadmates spawn on the squad lead or squad beacon only
I remember Oki saying in a devcast that he doesn't want to rely on dipshit teammates to be able to spawn (not exact quote), so unsure if anything like this would ever be implemented if the lead dev wants a solo multiplayer game where you don't have to rely on teammates
there a are a lot of things you could do to make it better without making it unusable but that's not my point here
Spawn protection is needed, mostly because there's always a little delay and sniping in this game is free.
The detection on whether someone is spawnable or not is done entirely on distance and incoming shots, it's about the best there will be in the game.
I don't think spawn protection is abusable or the oddball cases of someone using it to kill are frequent or impactful enough to warrant any kind of attention
If it is something that's happening regularly, stop spawncamping ๐
I cant stop spawn camping when ppl spawn literally 5m infornt of me
and it is only needed because half of the maps are flat after 5m if we had proper ruins and snipers wouldn't be so free there were no need for protection at all
and that only is for spawning on points, if you spawn on a mate there is 0 need for protection
Then we are back to the "squad spawning is fucked up" thing
ye but again fixing that needs way more work than simply removing protection for the time being
