#Squad leads

i agree, i think they should add a preference option to be squad leader in public matches as well as force squad leader to play the appropriate role
I agree they also need a more unique kit, the bino soflam is pretty useless
I just got the game yesterday and haven't really understood how the hierarchy system in the game works, or how strong it is when utilized, but there should be something like a Sergeant, Squad Leaders, and then Soldiers. Squad Leaders have control of X percentage of everyone and report to the Sergeant. No idea how it works in this game though.
can you explain? you can place the spawn beacon as a squad leader regardless of your class if thats what you mean.
squad leaders usually are sergeants themselves
I have the same question
The amount of players that get added as a squad leader automatically and then don't update which point you should be attacking/defending is so irritating
The squad leader role is something other than beeing a squad leader. I love issuing commands, playing team and all that, but i am not playing the class as it has no benefits over other classes
There's tons of benefits to being squad lead.
- You can middle mouse click quadrilaterals
Plus there's all the unique gadgets.
- Binosoflam
Dude your argument was so underwhelming it put me to near sleep 😴
That's how lame squad leader role is, coolest thing is that they get to use dmr'd for me
By default you wear a cool hat, so thats something
I think its good to be able to pick your class as squad lead, but it should definitely be something that someone in the squad chooses to do manually, or just have no squads at the start of the game and they all get created by people who want to do it
I think that the squad lead aspect doesn't fit the intent of the game imo. I don't see the point of forcing people into the kit simply because this isn't a game like Squad and doesn't really work the same. It's too fast paced and you'll run across the issue that games like Squad currently have where no one wants to create squads or squad lead because there are much more interesting kits out there.
90% of the time the squad leader doesn’t even know they are squad leader. It’s not the players fault though imo. I think a feature like your talking about is credible.
A good solution might be to just have no squad leader at the start and let players choose their role and also opt in to the squad leader abilities if the squad does not have one.
Maybe take inspiration from Squad?
I like the idea of a checkbox or something where you can set your preference regarding being a squad leader.
And maybe adjust the marker of the squad leader on the map so you can more easily identify him? As far as I know he's just a green dot like all the other squadmates.
Here is some changes i propose
- Change the squad leaders name in the Squad menu (Botton left) To Orange
- Have a "Request Order" for normal members of squad, and if no orders given in the next minute or two, change leader to that person
- Give more points to Leaders if the squad members follow the order, not just anyone. (This means gives no points if no squad is following the attack order)
- More points for the whole squad per kill on a defense order (would make it so that defending can be worthwhile, not just zerging)
I don't disagree with this concept but 2 minutes is way too low a timeframe, especially if you're hittin clips in intense bit battles.
Would echo @formal jolt's comments on inspiration from Squad and would add Hell Let Loose, where SL loadouts are essentially assaulters with better options and gadget capacity (+grenades, nice rifles)
Also, maybe the option to place a move marker instead of only being able to order attack/defend on a specific cap?
most players i've played with don't understand when they are squad leads and don't know how to put rally points down. I think locking the squad lead functions to the SL role is a great resolution. This stops players who are just trying to play the game accidentally become SL. To incentivize the players to stick to their squad they could limit the spawning on player ability to players only able to spawn on their SL. Some sort of prefab in the building system for players to drop protected rally point that allow more than just the squad to spawn. Limit two at a time per team.
The “squad leader” class has no special benefit.
The “squad leader” is generally just the first person to join the squad. It doesn’t matter what class they are playing they can put down a beacon as long as they have the role.
Battlebit SHOULD use the battlefield system where you can effectively vote out the squad leader and take the role from them
Yeah but IM ALSO trying to play the game. I can juggle being support and also using my middle mouse button to put a rally down. Its not that hard. Battlefield 5 solved this effortlessly; just make a "Request order" button and if they don't give an order in the next minute, squad leader is transferred to who requested.
I want to be able to use any gun class as the sl because i like using other weapons than just ar, and i cant do that and be sl it forces me to play medic
i shoudlnt only be able to use an ar, and give more abillitys to the sl it feels very bland with the current gadget options
In a way that could make squad leader less preferable, you could also allow the squad lead to get whatever benefits from that class added onto what class they want to play i.e. "medic, assault, etc"
I agree with everything said with this, right now I think it's hard for a lot of players to realize they're even the squad leader and it's only real benefit is the spawn beacon, and a lot of players don't even realize the squad points system exists.
The squad leader shouldn't be the only person to be able to put rally points down . As it stands most SL never even utilise coms or rally points .
Most of the time people don't even realize they are the squad leader as well. If it was better communicated in game maybe this won't happen as much.
I have ran into far too many Squad leaders who have literally said, "I'm not the squad leader."
There should be a toggle to turn on whether you want to be a squad leader. I am so sick of chasing automated waypoints, running across these maps as a support in exo armour until I find a vehicle is so tedious. And most people still aren't even aware they can build themselves som cover.
And when you're chasing waypoints half the time you aren't getting squad points so a support ends up being pointless anyhow as you're getting little to no points to use half my class Kit.
if you creat new squad it shouldnt give you squad leader role there should be separate click to become one
This game seriously needs to do something about squad leading, I'm so sick of chasing automated waypoints, I'm so tired of having to run all the way around, or through enemy held objectives. Sometimes I just ignore the actual capture because it won't give me squad points I can use to play my class properly.
I wish that you could interact with the map more as a squad lead. For example, setting the point to attack from there without having to aim at the diamond and press the ping button (middle mouse by default).
That would be a small but for me a welcomed improvement.
I also agree that there are improvements to be made in how you figure out who is squad lead and if you are the lead a better way to inform them about it.
As well as having a look at the squad leader class and see if they meed improvement or a straight up rework.
It should have a request order type function similar to BF and if SL doesn't do anything the person the requested becomes SL
The fact you can't set objectives from the map is genuinely baffling. That was actually what I tried to do the first time I got squad lead due to playing Planetside 2 for so long...
I have >300 hrs in game, and played ~650 games, mostly on 127v127. However, I have been selected as Squad Lead at the beginning of a round about 5 times in my whole play history; it's simply unavailble to me (yes I know it's possible to create a new squad, but if everyone is already in a squad at start, you will be in a solo useless squad.
I believe it may have something to do with how fast the new map loads, and people with faster hardware will be able to be game start squad leads while those without effectively can't play the role.
If you can't load the map "fast enough", you can't be a squad lead at game start with squad members.
There should be some mechanism that equalizes the chance to play the role at game start with a full squad that doesn't depend on how fast your hardware loads the map (to within a reasonable margin).
Remove respawn becons off squad leads, and give it back to recons. just so its more clear go can and who cant.
I still can't enter a game as a Squad Lead ever again. I simply cannot load the map fast enough. >600 games
It's hit or miss for me, but the entire system is just terrible overall
Daily reminder that a person with 817 games played cannot ever be squad lead at game start
