It is a weird combination. Fast running, bleeding, mag drops, low ttk, slow reload
And no minimap

The game has 2 reload modes: press r for regular reload, press and hold r for quick mag drop and reload.
Those elements force players to engage in more tactical play while clearing a corner or trying to camp .
No minimap is a good thing. It detracts from the waypoint/spot system. It turns the game into following dots on a minimap not paying attention to what's around you.
If they improve the spotting system, all the friendly blips, and help aid medics in seeing fallen teammates then I can deal with the lack of minimap. You are right, not having the map allows you to focus more on the visual and audio of the game
I'm glad you understand this. The game could use a small bit of tweaking with the spot system and friendly blips. I think for me. the problem is seeing ALL of the friendly blips. at all times, which is distracting in the distance on the minimap. Combine this with textures that aren't very different causes them to blend in.
The argument against culling the blips at range from the lead dev was that people would try to fire at a friendly at long range. This could be easily solved by making sniper rifles only show the friendly markers at long range and cull them for all the other guns.

It probably is also that I have just gotten used to planet side 2 and being a medic in that game
