  • They fly "drunkenly". You pitch forward, you start pitching too far forward, you pull back to compensate and end up overcompensating. Their pitch/roll isn't responsive enough, feels very "loose" for lack of a better term.

  • At least with the Littlebird, reducing throttle will practically stop you dead in the air if you're pitched flat or forward.

  • Throttle response is far too aggressive - it behaves more like a propeller (with reverse) than a rotary wing.

  • Speed and direction of movement are far too dependent on throttle, and pointing the main rotor in the direction you want it to go - meaning you can reach top speed, but as soon as you level out, you lose all that speed almost immediately. They'd fly better if they carried more momentum. Perhaps more mass and/or less air resistance.

  • Littlebirds' guns are bound to mouse2 by default - which is also freelook, meaning you can't aim and fire at the same time. I don't recall changing anything relevant in the controls, and at a glance didn't see if there was a separate freelook or weapon binding for vehicles/helis.

All in all they feel pretty awful to fly at the moment, hope to see them improved

I agree with this sentiment. Can we shift from squads flight model and go more towards Rising Storm 2? That game has one of the best mix of realism/arcade flying.

i feel like a good way to describe flight controls is:

"i took the noclip function and made it floaty"

cuase it really feels like all inputs are just directional speed inputs with number values, which you can negate by pressing the opposite direction.

the guns of the hummingbird are unusable

they dont have splash damage and aiming on a teeny tiny soldier is nearly impossible with the current controls

the utility heli is good, but the miniguns need accuracy buff, literally impossible to hit people that arent 10m from the heli

I agree with the Littlebird being absolute trash rn. Even if you are flying well you'll still be 2 shot out of it constantly by 80 people spraying at you. It has no current place in the game other than as heli hunter but with the weapons doing almost no damage to enemy air any good pilot can evade you all the way to their base even while hitting the tail rotor the whole way home. The only hope it has is abusing the sometimes very spotty models of the helis an shooting through them from the back to hit the pilot.

Not to mention the minguns can take about 5 hits to kill on a support or sufficiently armored person if you hit their helmet first.

It needs splash damage or like an 18 count rocket pod that has less explosive range than a grenade.

I'm sure with more time people would be better at getting kills, but atm the vast majority of people I've talked to find the doorgunner spots, and the littlebird, to be unfun

i dont want OP killing machines, but my gunners have consistently talked about how bad the guns feel to use effectively

The transport helicopters are fine the way they are, except how weak the side guns are, an issue which the little bird shares. They are difficult to handle, but overall with enough practice fly splendid. When first introduced, they were much more responsive, faster and lighter. Over the updates they’ve been given more input lag and weight to them to increase the difficulty, which I’ve actually grown to like.

I actually prefer flying them compared to the little bird. The little bird is just too weightless. Theres no inertia, when you have a very steep angle when diving, if you press S you will literally go backwards without actually dropping altitude. Thats not how helicopters work. Not to mention the keybind overlap with freelook and spinning the guns, and the abysmal damage of the guns themselves.

But I do love the transport helicopter handling and its increased difficulty.

what the LB needs imo at the least, is either the miniguns be mounted under the cockpit, or the mineguns have a .05° angel inwards that way at say, 50m, or 30m, there is a crossection of fire. this could give it more accuracy.

maybe bump the dmg up a little more.

maybe make it so the guns and crosshair dont jiggle as much when firing. cuase when flying, i found myself combating recoil too much, and thats hard to do when the little bird flys like i took off its gyroscope sometimes.

ctrl+f'd "throttling" because i couldn't possibly have been the only person to find it terrible to fly with throttle being relative to helicopter Y axis rather than to the ground

i've my own list of helicopter feedback that i'm not ready to share yet, but so far it includes pretty much everything OP's brought up

Looking at the guns, miniguns are firing WAY less bullets than I'd expect from a minigun. ~900rpm instead of the expected 3000rpm. Crank the rpm, an increase dispersion and miniguns would feel more like miniguns and a lot better to use.

the littlebird is overpowered as hell, cant be true that someone can just fly the thing forever killing everything all game

My man, snipers can one shot you through the air. People can hit you and you'll take the full damage. You have no counters to anything with armor thicker than paper. The littlebird is severly underpowered

Littlebird is not weak, I reguarlly see 100+ kill littlebird piliots on maps these days

Why is there no option to rebind the free look and spinning up your guns, without the option to rebind it makes it impossible to manuver and spin up the guns with certain keybindings. Don't know if it was oversight or intentional but its ruining flying for me. Id also like to add im not shit at flying, the key binds just make it impossible to use to its full potential unless I want to change all my binds which I really dont cause i use the same binds for many different games that have helicopters.

yeah and i cant damage a tank without explosives. i can however spend 4 m249 mags and if my aim is good enough on the tail rotor of a black hawk, that thing spins down into the ground.

the whole point of the hp buff was to quite litterally prevent the enemy team from spraying down black hawks with great ease. which removed their ability to be a back-capping asset.

tanks also have this thing called cover that they can use. just play your tank well and it doesnt die and be aware of enemy advances.

the black hawk is litterally a flying tank that everything can shoot at. the hp is good for what the heli is.
