#Feedback from a Battlefield player

*side note: for a short time only, because I couldn’t be bothered to stay that way (not important for this topic).

First and foremost, I haven’t been this engrossed into an FPS since Battlefield 4 (not counting my brief lapses into Doom 2016 & Doom Eternal). This game has awakened something in me that has been dormant for a long *** time! So, as the French say: chapeau.

Now that I got that out of the way, I do have some suggestions and feedback that should be considered. This game has so much potential, but there are some things that, in my opinion, could and some that should be changed or added.

I keep my Saturdays free, just to play this game and I think a lot of people do so as well, that’s the impact this game has on me and many others (I have a very busy schedule and many responsibilities in my life, that I do this says enough). I’m hyped up for this game, so, everything I say is said with passion and excitement!

I will start with an idea I’m most excited about:

  • This game has a ranking system, now wouldn’t it be insane to be able to equip (like in real life) this rank to your in-game characters uniform? Imagine you earn medals and badges in this game, now imagine that you can add these medals and badges to your in-games characters uniform… I think this could completely make people addicted to this game even further. How no other game has done this before I don’t understand. Just google Army Uniform and you will immediately know what I mean. Imagine you have earned some difficult to obtain medals or emblems and stick them on your uniform to show off to enemies and friendlies. It doesn’t even have to be overly complicated (at the beginning). Add this, and I’m sold, I’m literally hyped up for this idea. Imagine following a dude in a generals uniform with all these medals and emblems (and whatever else) added to it, blasting music through voice chat or doing some sort of motivational speech or whatever. I think it could be and should be added.

I play medic exclusively, almost (no surprises here), so here are my two cents on the medic and why:

  • There are too many actions required to heal friendlies around you, as soon as the bag is equipped the healing should happen automatically; without any further button pushes (this also means you heal yourself automatically). This could be balanced by adjusting the speed at which multiple players are healed, more players: slower healing. Less players: faster healing.
  • Dropping a medic bag should also auto heal friendlies around it (but ammo should still be received by accessing the menu at crates, these 2 things should be completely different dynamics).
  • The healing is too slow for a game with 254 players, this is a major annoyance (this should be faster). The amount of health the player has and the time it takes before you’re fully healed is imbalanced. I will exaggerate my point: a bullet does, let say, 25hp of damage on average, but healing 25hp takes 2 seconds (I don’t know the exact numbers, I’m just making a point here). If you’re hit with just 3 bullets healing would take 6 (SIX!) seconds (I think I’m exaggerating, but quite frankly, it surely does feel that long). Way too slow for the amount of damage that has been done.
  • Bandaging yourself or others should also be faster, same reason as above.
  • When a player is bleeding, bandaging yourself should also heal yourself to complete health (for every class). And when you’re not bleeding you should still be able to bandage yourself to full health (this would make playing the other classes more interesting as you have the opportunity to heal yourself 3 times. In my opinion, this would make the game more dynamic and playing the other classes more rewarding. The medic would not become obsolete, because bandaging should take more time than getting healed by a medic and it’s only possible 3 times).

  • An option to revive and carry at the same time should be added, the gymnastics I have to do to revive and carry someone at the same time was insane… until I got a mouse with more buttons (yes, I got a different mouse with more buttons just for this game!). I imagine a revive and carry setting in the options menu as something viable to be added. I’m excited about this game, if you haven’t already noticed.

I think that is all I wanted to say about the medic class.

Features that should be added:

  • Picking up other kits from dead players (this is rather self-explanatory).

  • Most of the time when I want to spawn on a squad member I can’t because they’re “in combat”. I think it’s because there’s an enemy in close proximity? Because most of the time they’re not actually in combat. This should be looked into, I understand why the feature is there, it’s there as to not give someone an unfair advantage or disadvantage. But the time someone is “in combat” should be toned down by (sometimes literal) minutes! Someone is not shooting or getting shot at for 5 seconds? Let me be able to spawn please!

  • The number of kills added in the kill feed should add up as soon as the kills happen. Imagine I get 7 kills in just a couple of seconds, the current kill feed is adding the kills one at a time at a very slow pace: 1… 2… 3… 4… 5… 6… and 7... It should be instantaneously added. I get 7 kills in a short amount of time, don’t show it adding up, just show 7 at the 7th kill. Currently, it takes literal seconds before the kill feed says: 7x [Desert Eagle] Insert_Player_Name +200. The number of kills should be added instantaneously (don’t show the numbers 1 to 6). The names of the players killed could become a separate (maybe?) list or something (some thought should be put into its design, but it might be rather simple. And I can and am willing to do that if the dev(s) want!).

  • I know we’re just playtesting here, but I would really like some servers to exclusively run Infantry Only maps and modes. I’m getting tired of having to switch to different servers and game modes when a map has been played. At the moment I only like to play on 3 maps (for Domination and Conquest, but I’ll get to map design). There should be servers that only run Domination, there should be servers that only run Conquest etc. you get the gist of it. Besides this, I want to have time when a veto ends to leave the server if I don’t like the next map/mode. This doesn’t mean more time should be added, this means that the veto should end quicker, leaving some seconds (maybe 10?) to leave the server.

  • A “remember my filter setting for next time” would be nice, I’m usually disabling most of the maps and player count in the Filter, would be nice to do it once and be done with it!

  • Map design, honestly, I don’t really like it. And the reasons are simple, destruction is very cool, but it shouldn’t be on every map (at least not on every city map). There are too many windows and buildings that are enterable. This ruins the potential of the game. Okay, don’t take this feedback in a negative way, designing good maps is very difficult! Some maps should have buildings that are very limited in its destruction, windows and pathways. I want more clusterfuck maps (pardon my French), but not too clusterfuck. The current maps are either no buildings or completely filled with (destructible) buildings. It’s a great feature and one of the selling points of the game, but sometimes less is more. This is not even the worst gripe of mine. It’s the fact that map design has too many windows (angles) from which you can get shot at, with 254 players, that’s not good. In my opinion, Construction is a map that has a decent design, but just a bit too many angles, Salhan is also decent, but it has too many destructible buildings (ruining the later game). Oil Dunes, I love it, some added cover here and there would finish it, this map is great, because the elevation levels balance it. Quite frankly, I wouldn’t mind designing some maps, but I don’t think that’s really necessary, because you can look at some old-school Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 2142 maps and you’ll have awesome map design, at least, if you adjust the size to fit 254 players! If you want a list of maps to look at, just say so and I will make a list! I can’t help myself, here are some maps that could (and should) be used as inspiration (out the top of my head, okay I went further than that already, I’m inspired now):

 Fall of Berlin

Adjusting the size and scale of these maps to fit the player count would be useful and I’m not saying to make an exact copy of them, they are perfect inspiration (with limited destruction). These are infantry focused maps.

I just want to finish this topic by saying that I’m so impressed and in awe of what this game already is and what it could become. It has made me go back in time to look at the awesome times I’ve had with Battlefield. You guys are more than deserving of my monthly donation!

I’m not joking about me designing some maps for you guys, I’m eager to do so even. I have a rich Battlefield history, playing it diehard as diehard can get. Not only playing for big organizations in the eSport scene and having been to many tournaments, but rather the amount of time I put into Battlefield from a young age. Playing “casually” was and still is (once again thanks to Battle Bit) one of the things I like to do most. Though, the reason I’m eager to help has nothing to do with my history with Battlefield, it’s all to do with the fact that I’m addicted to this awesome game and I believe this game has the potential to be the next big thing. If you don’t want me to help that’s fine, I’ll still enjoy your game thoroughly. No hard feelings whatsoever.

Well, that was a lot to write and read. I think I forgot some things, but I will make another post of I think it’s necessary. Thanks for reading and hopefully some will be implemented/changed. Let’s start a discussion on some of these points.

It's levels/EXP. There is no ranking. It's pure progression.

I do wish there was a hold to heal action similar to the bandage. But I do not think it's an issue, especially if you put it on your thumb buttons. I can heal and revive quite smoothly. I disagree with the slow down, people are already too shy to heal as it is. kittenCry

This conflicts with your second point, I feel like. But I I feel like that getting healed by another Medic is very fast already. Just self healing is very slow.

It's extremely fast as Medic already. Any faster would be overtuned. IMO

Defies the point of the medkit by a good bit and conflicts with the item's purpose.

As far as I know, any sort of picking up ammo, weapons, kits etc. is confirmed to not happen. I do not really see the need for it either, to be honest. Introduces more load than usefulness. IMO

Yes, proximity is the issue. It doesn't consider solid walls or anything either. I am not a fan of it either, especially since it still tends to spawn you into death.

Yeah that's true, but it shouldn't have been in the title, and I do mention it later in the post, it's not that important. I would even argue to say that my "casual" experience is more important than my comp experience.

I don't think that's a real issue. You still get the kill sound. Check the audio options to make it louder if needed.
But it would be a nice QoL, I agree.

Confirmed to not happen on official servers. Community servers may be able to do it, though.

Yes. Been asking for that as well, but Oki kinda misunderstood and only added a feature that disables the auto refresh...and it doesn't save either.

I do not think trying to copy maps from Battlefield (at all/remotely) is a good idea. Please play Battlefield for those. Unique content is good, though I understand your desire.
