I'm a casual gamer with a few hundred hours in several FPS games ranging from COD to Halo, Red Orchestra to Fistful of Frags. This game is extremely promising and so I wanted to post my full thoughts after joining the most recent playtest. I have not seen the roadmap so sorry if I nitpick something that is going to be changed.
The good
- Gunplay is good. Like, really good. Best gunplay I've experience in a unity engine game. It took me about half an hour of trying to get my first kill but once it 'clicked' it was really satisfying to play.
- Scope glint is great, and playing as and against snipers never feels brainless, at least on day maps.
- Massive, crowded, lively, destructible maps are on the whole quite fun. There are some 'bad' maps but even those are still very playable.
- Vehicles feel super useful when driven right without being oppressive. Always feels like there's an option available to you when you're down a vehicle, either through a weapon or an alternative route to the point, and being able to respawn in vehicles is awesome. Have not witnessed any vehicle camping but maybe I'm lucky.
- Ammo system feels like it took the best parts from Red Orchestra and other realistic FPS games- not knowing exact number of bullets but having both slow and quick reloads and ammo balancing feels engaging.
- Dragging your teammates to cover is super satisfying.
- Squads are very cool. A randomly assigned band of players you'll get to know during your 15-30 minute game and the ways you can support each other are fun to play around with.
- The testing range having everything unlocked is a great way to make me excited to rank up and unlock new stuff for my guns.
- Haven't seen any hackers, but again, maybe just lucky here.
