#My feedback after 4 hours

I'm a casual gamer with a few hundred hours in several FPS games ranging from COD to Halo, Red Orchestra to Fistful of Frags. This game is extremely promising and so I wanted to post my full thoughts after joining the most recent playtest. I have not seen the roadmap so sorry if I nitpick something that is going to be changed.

The good

  • Gunplay is good. Like, really good. Best gunplay I've experience in a unity engine game. It took me about half an hour of trying to get my first kill but once it 'clicked' it was really satisfying to play.
  • Scope glint is great, and playing as and against snipers never feels brainless, at least on day maps.
  • Massive, crowded, lively, destructible maps are on the whole quite fun. There are some 'bad' maps but even those are still very playable.
  • Vehicles feel super useful when driven right without being oppressive. Always feels like there's an option available to you when you're down a vehicle, either through a weapon or an alternative route to the point, and being able to respawn in vehicles is awesome. Have not witnessed any vehicle camping but maybe I'm lucky.
  • Ammo system feels like it took the best parts from Red Orchestra and other realistic FPS games- not knowing exact number of bullets but having both slow and quick reloads and ammo balancing feels engaging.
  • Dragging your teammates to cover is super satisfying.
  • Squads are very cool. A randomly assigned band of players you'll get to know during your 15-30 minute game and the ways you can support each other are fun to play around with.
  • The testing range having everything unlocked is a great way to make me excited to rank up and unlock new stuff for my guns.
  • Haven't seen any hackers, but again, maybe just lucky here.

The bad

  • You can join a night+rain map as your first map on quick match. I think this would discourage a lot of new players if this is the first map they joined as night maps are much harder compared to day ones. My suggestion would be to add a toggle for night games in quick match.
  • The medic is crazy. Second most gun type access with self-heal. I would personally remove the ability self-heal, requiring you to throw your kit to another player to be able to 'heal yourself', or needing a second medic.
  • Support feels completely unimpactful. Would be nice if they could carry multiple types of grenade to make them feel like true supports.
  • If support is unimpactful, assault is redundant. Since the start of the game, I have not once found myself thinking 'wow we could really use an assault here'. They need some love so they can have their own niche.
  • Some revives make no sense. Why can I revive someone who's been hit point blank by a tank shell, or been hit in the head by an M200 and revived three times in a row? There should be a maximum limit on how many times you can be revived per life, as well as a damage threshold you can't be revived from.

The ugly (minor things to improve)

  • Would be nice to have more filters on the server browser for official servers, exclude servers that are full, etc.
  • A squad reward that lets a player from any squad spawn on it but only has limited uses might be a fun idea.
  • Some spawns are inconsistent. Some will spawn you in a generous random area and others are super campable with everyone spawning on top of each other.
  • Some maps are a little too destructible.
  • When it got late in the evening, I couldn't use vc anymore, and suddenly I felt useless as people walked past my revivable body. Some basic voice callouts like medic, back, attack, sniper, and danger would be excellent.

Overall, the core of the game is super solid. There are some issues with the gameplay and systems but the fact the foundation of the game is really strong has my hopes high. I will preorder after the next playtest if the helicopters and other upcoming changes look good. Thanks for making these playtest weekends free to play, and best of luck with your game!

The medic is crazy. Second most gun type access with self-heal. I would personally remove the ability self-heal, requiring you to throw your kit to another player to be able to 'heal yourself', or needing a second medic.

I agree with this statement, however I also think the best course of action in this regard instead is give medics 5 med kits. And if YOU wanna self heal you need to throw it down or use one thrown down. Making it so medics are more... stationary and arent god tier due to "run while healing"

Now we have entered more of the feedback zone I think personally both these classes need to be "eaten" together. Just call it Support. Keep the LMGS and... most likely buff them n at least recoil or accuracy all guns feel better than these sorry to say.

However your grenade idea feels... not so good. I think personally adding possible mortar to the class after they're eaten together would be better. With only 3 mortar shells that can't be refilled (to prevent people just standing next to a box either buying or their own)

Some revives make no sense. Why can I revive someone who's been hit point blank by a tank shell, or been hit in the head by an M200 and revived three times in a row? There should be a maximum limit on how many times you can be revived per life, as well as a damage threshold you can't be revived from.

I think for the causality of this game while also having some competitiveness is a good thing. I believe reviving at all points should remain as it is something that makes this casually fun for people that aren't the best while also giving "more hardcore" players something to want to stop and help their team mates to "zerg rush" more. Which makes this game that much more fun.

~I personally thing your entire "the ugly" list arent needed to be changed minus the server browser. Destruction is a GREAT thing its why bad company 2 is still one of the most loved battlefields for instance. I think a squad reward system that anyone can spawn on would be.... Ok. Though not something thats needed HOBS really can make a game feel stagnant and VERY one sided. And the spawns... Nah thats fine. How it is, is fine. break immersion for 0.1 seconds then you hold W and Shift and its over.

Thats what I feel anyway.
