#helicopter controls seem a bit.. funky

Was watching the latest video of the helicopter test, to move forward you're looking at the ground so I'm hoping this changes in the future to a more forwarding facing view, helicopters don't fly looking at the ground after all.

the helis are gonna be alot like bf4 helis so they are more arcadey

#

i do agree tho

i mean its still wip so some changes are going to be made

they are

Realistic

#

not some dogshit cod crap

#

press w to move forward

#

garbage

#

the flight mecahnics in battlebit are tilt controls

#

which is how heli's fly in real life

#

there is nothing (arcadey) about them

true hinge
#

they should make them like BF2 with collective and all

And dcs is nearly the same as bf4 they just add alot of extra controls

#

Even rust has better flight mechanics than arma

#

Although comparing rust to Arma is an insult to rust. It's flight mechanics are actually quite enjoyable

How does it tilt

#

Tell me

#

What control surfaces makes it tilt forward

#

🤨

serene stag
#

For now the entire aircraft tilts to move forward

#

We’ll see if oki changes the flight mechanics

tf, ahahaha these last 3 images

Bro said bf4 controls are similar to dcs💀💀💀

scenic furnace
#

wow big difference you use wasd to tilt and turn instead of moving your mouse and instead you flip switches and hit buttons

#

wow

#

big difference

BF4 helicopters are extremely arcadey. Something I personally hate about the game. Battlebit is aiming for the same thing. It sucks, but the game has to be dumbed down enough for COD and BF4 players to be able to use vehicles.

scenic furnace
#

bro your straight braindead trying to compare bf4 heli flight to cod...

fervent cliff
#

can you abandon the heli in midflight in case you're being sniped or rpg'd?

Why the fuck do we have people making threads over controls that they saw in a video? HyperXD

#

Yeah, you tilt a helicopter to fly forward. That's how helicopters work (well, in games, in real life you just do that to the rotors, but eh, game convenience).

#

They're not jets.

#

Remember this isn't a milsim. It's not feasible to try and imitate the exactly like-like behavior.

#

The average player is gonna crash them even with those simplified controls.

cyan rapids
#

even in milsims they're not exactly complex to fly, it's just you gotta be real careful about landing

#

lol dude ask oki for auto_controll mode.

icy iris
#

I just read through this and my god.... people dont know how helicopters work lmfao

icy iris
# quaint crown Yeah, you tilt a helicopter to fly forward. That's how helicopters work (well, i...

I mean... the 2nd version if battlebit was a milsim and the hardcore game mode is going to be a milsim.

The helicopter controls though wont make it impossible to fly for people. I'm just saying that the helicopter would be better off flying like an actual helicopter instead of constantly looking at the ground like you're trying to drill a hole into the nearest wall that you cant see. If you ever see a helicopter in level flight they dont fly like | or / they fly level with the horizon if not nose slightly down of the horizon with the rotors tilited

icy iris
# scenic furnace And dcs is nearly the same as bf4 they just add alot of extra controls

The flight mechanics of a helicopter in dcs and bf4 arent really similar. Dcs accounts for weight, temperature, wind, air humidity etc. Its mental how much they account for when flying the aircraft. The ah64 is a prime example of these weather conditions effects flight performance. Bf4 is just get up and fly, you can do any maneuvers you desire and won't have any bad repercussions.

icy iris
# scenic furnace which is how heli's fly in real life

Eh. Helicopters tilt but it's mainly effect of the tilting of the main rotor system which creates more or less lift along with the direction of tilt to change the direction of flight of the helicopter. It's all on a gyro system

serene stag
#

Like this?

icy iris
#

The lift is mainly effected by rotation of the blades but pretty sure the entire thing moves up slightly too could be wrong there

#

Bassically yeah

#

I'll be back gotta focus on something

icy iris
# serene stag

this is bassically it. obviously the actual main body of the helicopter would rotate as well but this is just the movement of the rotor shaft

quaint crown
#

Obviously they don't fly like that IRL. They're not steering with a gyroscope.

#

Point is that it's harder to fly them like this with just a mouse and keyboard if you make them behave "correctly".

#

Point down, fly forward is more straight forward. Especially when you consider all the other movement.

icy iris
#

I mean, bf4s flight mechanics did it pretty spot on and they're hella easy to fly

cyan rapids
#

cyclical with mouse, collective with W/S and yaw pedals with A/D is just about as good as it can get, don't really understand what people are complaining about

#

once you're in forward flight the cyclical functions very similarly to a normal fixed-wing joystick

icy iris
#

I mean tbh, the whole point of this thread was because the helicopter was full on nose down to the ground which just doesnt look right, wanted to just bring it to attention in case that was the final state of the aircraft, I've got no qualms with the actual controls themselves, just the angle at which the aircraft flys

scenic furnace
#

love the controls there

#

flight feels perfect

#

love how each heli in bf4 feels different to fly

#

little bird is super light and sensitive to controls while the transport chopper flies nearly like a super heavy boat with wings (joking) but they definetly made it feel weighty. then you have the attack helicopters which are a good combination between the little birds light weight floatyness and the transport choppers heavy feel

#

i would love to see an attack chopper like in bf4 in battlebit

#

i hope with custom servers we can have custom mods to add new vehicles

#

maybe even custom guns through workshop
