I feel like that's pointless to even put here, because he'd do it if it was viable.
But certainly there appears to be something that keeps this from happening.

it would probably take him some time to learn how to use linux but at the end it would benefit him as wont have to pay for windows server licenses on each server

There's a chance it might not happen, it's been suggested for a while. Windows server licensing is expensive, but a port is not that simple. So it's a definitive 'maybe', but more likely for it not to happen, so you shouldn't expect a linux port.

Do you know which framework he uses for the servers? .NET?

It's made on unity with C#, so yes. .NET is part of it.
